The Space

Come enjoy the mountain view near Bass Lake and Yosemite National Park in the Sierra National Forest. Built by grandpa from barn wood and wooden winery trays and furnished with a life time collection of grandma's antiques, this house feels like what a simple rustic home secluded in the mountains should. It is spacious enough to fit an entire family comfortably with ample seating in the living room and has four bedroom options. The house is backed up to national forest land up the mountain to the west. The house for a great private, economical and spacious alternative to the lodging near by on the lake. The property is over an acre and there is ample vehicle and boat parking available, a deck for entertaining, and a custom built fireplace for cozy evenings by the fire. Nature is plentiful around the home with daily sitings of deer and sometimes wild turkey. Resident foxes often visit the deck area at night. Nature lovers will be impressed by the variety and abundance of wildlife that sometimes frequents the area. The home itself is a two bedroom one and a half bath containing two California King beds. There is a two bedroom out-building that offers two additional queen beds as well as an additional 1/2 bath. The house contains all the basic amenities for cooking and dining with a full size kitchen. Wishon Point boat launch is the nearest destination on Bass Lake approximately 2 miles from the house. Miller's Landing is the nearest Restaurant and boat rental option approximately 3 miles from the house on the lake. Continue on the scenic lake route 222 and highway 41 approximately 25 miles to reach the South Gate at Yosemite near Big Trees, the most famous sequoia grove in Yosemite. Another 30 miles or so from the park entrance and you will find your self at the world famous Yosemite Valley.
Interesting fact: The south side of Bass Lake, near the home, is where the set was built and filmed for the 1988 movie 'The Great Outdoors' starring Dan Aykroid and John Candy.

Interaction with Guests

I'm typically not present for most guest visits at this rental. I do however encourage guests to call me as first contact if they feel that I can be of assistance in any way. I can also provide contact to my help and neighbor, Ardel, if someone is needed in person when I am not in the area.

Getting around

There is no public transit to the best of my knowledge. Private transport is essential.

  • Amazing place!

Some friends and I spent a weekend in this house. The house is very beautiful and comfortable. It is about 1 1/2 hours by car to Yosemite and 5 min to Bass lake (which is really nice).

I recommend barbecuing on the deck area. You can buy food and drinks in North Fork Super Market.

The host is very nice too. Everything was clean and arranged when we arrived. Sierran always answered our emails with questions very fast. Also he sent us lots of information upfront.

I wish we could have stayed longer.

  • My husband and I and our teenaged boys had a fabulous family vacation at Sierran's place! Everything we needed was right there. We just brought our food & clothes and made ourselves at home. As we traveled to and from Yosemite, we were able to enjoy the sights - The area is beautiful, the lake gorgeous. We especially enjoyed the feeling of stepping back in time, as the cabin is totally decorated in original "old school." What a blast, it is all the stuff people had in their homes when I was a little girl in the 70's! Those greens & oranges, and even some shag carpet here & there. Plus all the knick-knacks and home made decor - so much fun! Staying at some hotel could never compare. We will always treasure our memories of this vacation at your special cabin! Thank you Sierran! We will come back if we can.

  • This place was amazing. Amazing weather, beautiful setting, all you need to provide is the good company. Pro-tip, the market at northfork that's like 8 min away is the place for beer and food. Cheaper than bay area grocery stores and they have mostly everything you'll need.

  • This place is amazing!! this was mine and 6 friends second to last stop on our two week California Road trip. The house had so much character and was really enjoyable to stay in. On the first night we had a BBQ whilst deer were wandering around the back of the decking! really picturesque setting. We drove down to Lake Bass on our second day, which was beautiful! After relaxing there for the day we went back to the house for our second BBQ! Definitely recommend this place for the charm!

  • This mountain house is truly charming and made us feel like home! Every single piece of the interior is beautiful and unique, I can even say antique ! I think we spent at least half of the day taking pictures of the rooms, furniture and all the surroundings.
The deck is the right place to be at night for some vino and long conversations with your friends or watching shooting stars (just make sure to turn on that mosquito lamp :), as well as in the morning for a group sun salute ).
The kitchen is equipped with every single thing that you might need for cooking/ baking etc, there was no need to bring a whole bag of kitchen tools and essentials.
The saloon style bar set up with the Mr Boston official bartender's guide along with it makes you wanna start creating new drinks and flavors.
The house itself is located on the top of a hill, so it feels like there is no one else there but you. So peaceful and quiet that you can hear all those little birds and animals around. Lake is just near by, we spent the whole day swimming, sunbathing and feeding squirrels. If you drive a bit further to the marina - you can rent a patio or ski boat, tubes, bananas, kayaks for a reasonable price.

Sierran is a great host, really saved our weekend by promptly responding to the reservation request since we had a last minute change of plans on Friday afternoon. He is easy to reach via phone/ email.

We had such a great time there that it was truly hard to leave. But we'll be definitely coming back. And again - thank you Sierran and your family for creating such a beautiful atmosphere at your house!

  • My friends and I rented the Cabin for a weekend as a home base for hiking and exploring the area. The collection of antique decorations really give it a lot of charm and the views from the deck during bbq dinners were truly great. Sierran's itinerary made finding the cabin easy and there were no surprises - we got what we were hoping for.

  • This was a wonderful cabin for us. On the way, we went through very scenic roads along Bass Lake. Once we got to the cabin, it was as if we were staying at our good friend's family cottage. True to the name, it is rustic and charming. We were hoping to have snow, but as luck would have it, there was none and we were able to sit out on the porch and look at the beautiful mountain view during breakfast and lunches. There are many houses on the way to this cabin, but because of it's position, you do not see any of them from the cabin itself. Great place.

  • We were already enthusiastic about staying at Sierran's cabin, just from the description and the photos. When we figured out that a previous enthusiastic review belonged to a friend of a friend, we knew that all bets were off. The cabin is amazing: it's cozy, warm, and the decoration is off the wall. Ahem. The piece above the fireplace is definitely worth the trip alone.

Sierran provided all the details we needed to prepare and enjoy our stay. When I failed to remember details from the itinerary, Sierran was prompt and courteous in his responses. The cabin was a great home-base to explore Yosemite and the surrounding forests. Thanks for a great stay!

  • Sierran's Property seems to have come out of a dream! When we get there -which was at night- we were all upset about being stuck in traffic for several hours coming from SF but literally a minute after we enter the house we were immediately uplifted by the overall charm of the house. We were planning to spend a lot more time in Yosemite but we had a hard time leaving the house! Not to mention leaving for good! Spend 3 night and felt like 5 minutes!

  • My friends and I had an amazing time at this roomy and rustic cabin in the forrest. Sierran left all the essentials + more- we could not have been happier with our stay! The view was amazing and the house was so great for the 5 of us. Will definitely come back very soon! Thanks Sierran!

About
I discovered airbnb from a fellow airline employee who, like myself, is always looking for ways to have a unique experience while on a budget during world travels. I later decided to post s vacation rental of my own when my grandparents needed someone to manage a home in the San Juan Mountains of Southern Colorado. I have found that I enjoy working with the many people who have vacationed at our home. I have recently purchased a split level home and hope to create a pleasant alternative to the local motels for guests coming to the University, enjoying the areas many events and festivities, and those touring through the Eugene area.
