Near city centre, close to bus, train. Clean, friendly, spacious, sunlit. Quiet bedroom (king single bed) & bathroom. 2 lounges. Parking. Bike. Cat. Walk to cafes, restaurants, gyms, movies, parks, zoo, transport museum, wave pool, mountain, mall
This room is one of two available in this beautifully restored 1930s home. The room has it's own guest bathroom. The house has excellent air conditioning for hot summer days, and heating for winter. There are lots of spaces where guests can relax, so you never feel crowded, but can be sociable if you want. The neighbourhood is quiet yet has very easy access to the city via bus and train, or by car (10 mins to CBD). Car parking on site. There are also a huge number of interesting and beautiful places you can access easily by walking.
You will have access to living rooms, kitchen, big deck (great for breakfast), some garage space may be available for a small vehicle. There is a washing machine and plenty of outdoor and indoor drying lines.
There are hundreds of books and movies if you just want to chill out. Maps and information about Auckland and NZ attractions, are there for you to take away.
You'll also be within easy walk of cafes, restaurants, parks, zoo, mall, movie theatre, transport museum, public pool, gym, squash centre and many other local attractions. If you like cycling, there's a bike in the garage - there's also squash equipment.
Interaction with Guests
I work from home so am available to guests to answer any questions and provide help.
I love this neighbourhood for it's quietness, local attractions within easy walking distance, and accessibility to CBD. To get to the CBD or out west, you can choose the bus or train, both are very close.
The bus is stop 2 mins' walk, train station 5 mins' walk, with a short ride to the city centre.
There are three café/ restaurants within 3-4 mins' walk, and several about 10 minutes' walk away. There are beautiful parks and walkways in every direction, even a local mountain almost at your doorstep. A local lake and a beach are both within easy cycling distance. You can walk to the transport and technology museum, the zoo, the mall, a public pool, the library, the movie theatre, gyms and the squash centre.
Apart from walking, there are three transport options: train or bus, which regularly take you into the CBD or to other parts of Auckland, and bicycle - it's an easy to cycle into the city.
Other Things to Note
The main attraction in my place, judging from guest reports, is Daisy the Cat. She switches her allegiance to the new guest in the hope that she can gain favours (like extra food) that I won't grant her. She is very cute - but you need to like cats to notice!
No smokers please.
It was wonderful to stay at Chris. It was easy to take the shuttle from airport and the bus and train stops into central auckland is just a few minutes from home. It takes about 30 minutes to get into the city so should plan your trip especially at night. The place was very clean and comfortable and Chris was so helpful with suggestions.
Chris is a very nice host. The house is beautyful. Bus to downtown at 1 min walk.
The reservation was canceled 34 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
We didn't actually get to stay with Chris as our flights got cancelled and we got to Auckland a day later (thanks Jetstar ). Chris was very helpful accommodating our requests to be able to arrive late at night and was always great at responding. Hopefully another time we can make it :-)
As per description. Place was perfect and host was superb. I have loges this in as one of my favourites for next time I'm in auckland. Thanks chris.
I have spent another two lovely days in Chris' home. If possible, Chris was even more welcoming and helpful, picking me up at the airport and allowing me to check in and out at unusual times to allow for plane arrival and departure. If it weren't for her, I would have never had a fantastic day in the Waitakere Ranges. Highly recommended.
Chris was a friendly, hospitable host who went the extra mile to ensure I had an enjoyable stay. This was such a welcome relief after staying in an airport hotel the night before. The house is in a lovely area, and just a short walk to the train station. Would recommend Chris to anyone looking for a comfortable base to explore Auckland from.

I am a researcher/educator and acoustic musician, and I work from home. I want your stay in Auckland to be relaxed and memorable, so I try to help out in lots of little ways. e.g. sometimes I might be able to pick you up from the airport, make a meal, give you maps and tips about good places to eat, interesting places to go. Just ask! The place is full of books and movies, and is quiet for sleeping, if you just want to recharge your batteries.
I enjoy traveling and meeting other travelers. So far I've been to several European and Central/South American countries, the US and Australia (even got to Iceland once!).
I'm not much of a foodie, but am deeply addicted to good books and good movies. I also like dancing, walking and cycling - there's a bike here you can borrow if you'd like.
