A gorgeous penthouse in a perfectly restored 1920's apartment building in Barcelona's most exclusive neighbourhood, surrounded by pretty cafe terraces, delicious tapas restaurants, the Museo Picasso and the beautiful Parc de la Ciutadella.

The Space

You will be renting a gorgeous penthouse in a perfectly restored 1920's apartment building in Barcelona's most exclusive neighbourhood, El Born and opposite the Mercat del Born, from which the hip and trendy, "El Born" neighborhood takes its name, and one of the most important buildings in Barcelona.

The apartment is in the Roman historic centre of Barcelona, one minute from the Museo Picasso and the beautiful Parc de la Ciutadella, close to the beach and metro and surrounded by pretty cafe terraces and delicious tapas restaurants.

Perfect for couples, small groups or independent business travellers, this is the ideal base from which to explore Barcelona in style and, as you can see from the reviews, everyone falls in love with it!

We are experienced airbnb hosts and take guest satisfaction very seriously which has earned us Superhost status and a five star rating. Whatever you need; from fresh sheets to restaurant recommendations or local insights, we're on-hand to help in whatever way we can.

THE APARTMENT

A bright penthouse at the top of a beautifully restored 1920's apartment building with balconies on all sides. There is a new lift and a sunny roof terrace with views across Barcelona to the Tibidabo mountains. The apartment has central heating throughout for the winter and air conditioning for the hotter Summer months and includes;

• A bright, contemporary lounge with parquet floors, a comfortable sofa and a large day-bed (perfect for a well earned siesta after an epic day of tourism). Two large sets of double doors open out to balconies overlooking Calle Rec so you can throw open all the doors and let in the sunshine (the apartment is full of light from dawn until sunset). There is a big wooden dining table which seats six (great for long dinners with good wine). There is also a guitar, just in case you want to flex your flamenco skills.

• High Speed Internet: There is a secure WiFi signal and a MacBookPro for guests travelling without a laptop.

• Kitchen: A clean, fully fitted kitchen with all utensils, crockery and spices - just in case you get the urge to experiment with fresh ingrediens from the excellent Santa Catarina food market just around the corner.

• Kiddies: For guests travelling with children there is a high-chair, a foldable baby cot and we are happy to provide information on stuff to do with kids of different ages in Barcelona and recommend a good babysitter.

THE BEDROOMS

The bedrooms are both large, bright, clean double rooms fully heated in the winter, with double beds and comfy tempur mattresses. The master bedroom has it's own private en suite bathroom and a large bath. There is also a second bathroom with a shower, WC and large sink. Three sets of traditional shutters open up to balconies on both sides with views of the old market and Calle Rec, "The best street for boutique shops in Barcelona" according to Monocle Magazine. There are always fresh white sheets on the beds and a big pile of clean white towels in the bathrooms.

___

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Literally just around the corner is Paseig del Born where you will find sunny cafe terraces, boutiques and historical sights all clustered around the beautiful 14th century Santa Maria del Mar church. The apartment is just a few minutes walk from the beach, the Picasso Museum and the lovely Parc de la Ciutadella as well as most of the city's famous historical buildings and museums (see map). Some of Barcelona's nicest cafe's and tastiest restaurants are all close-by. There are also two metro stations just a few minutes walk away, the nearest of which is Barceloneta.

GETTING THERE

FROM THE AIRPORT: The easiest way to get to the apartment is simply to jump in a taxi outside the airport which will cost around 30€. If you're travelling along and want to save money there is a train link from the airport (T2) but trains only leave every hour or so (annoying if you just miss one) so it's easier and cheaper to jump on the blue AeroBus from the airport (7€ - leaves every 15 minutes) and then take a taxi from the final stop Plaça Cataluña (10€)

BY TRAIN: If you are arriving by train, the lovely Estación de Francia is just a one minute stroll from the apartment. This is also an excellent transport link to get to the beaches and some enjoyable day trips outside the city, for example, pretty Sitges, the Dali Museum in Figueras and the breathtaking monastery in Montserrat.

We remain constantly available for our guests; for anything from local advice to fresh towels. It's really important to us that everyone who stays in the apartment has a really positive experience.

We can provide restaurant recommendations, suggest walks and day trips, organise tours of Barcelona's markets and boutiques and do everything we can to make sure you get under the surface of Barcelona and discover it's many wonderful and surprising secrets.

  • Barny was an awesome host. He was readily available to assist with information in the neighborhood. He even made time to check in while we there and make sure all was going ok. The neighborhood is ideal for exploring one of the greatest cities in the world!

  • The apartment was very cute, clean and conveniently located. There is a lot of light, and the lay out was perfect. We had our 2 yr old son and there was a crib and highchair, very well suited for kids. Barny and Betty were kind, helpful and responsive. There is great food, markets, tapas all around the area and across from the beautiful city park. The street noise was very loud, between the late night scene, street sweepers and garbage, it was a bit tough to sleep. Ear-plugs may be helpful ;) but if you plan to party and stay out late, you won't mind!! Great apartment, and hosts left us some goodies for our arrival. Very sweet.

    Response from Barny:

Thanks so much for your positive review Tammy. I'm so glad you enjoyed the apartment and you guys are welcome here in Barcelona any time.
Just a quick note regarding noise for anyone reading this and trying to work out which area of Barcelona to stay in... The Born area (where the apartment is located) is actually the quietest quarter in the historic centre of the city and, in the case of our apartment, there are no bars within earshot. However, Barcelona really is a 24 hour city so the only way to find complete peace and quiet is to stay quite far from the centre, for example close to the Gaudi Park. If you do decide to do this, bear in mind that you will be around 45 minutes walk from the vibrant centre of Barcelona and the museums, cafe terraces and beaches. If anyone wants impartial advice on choosing the best area to suit their needs please feel free to get in touch :)

  • Awesome location, central & well connected. The apartment is in a beautiful building, we loved the huge windows & shutters. The apartment itself was spacious, comfortable & well equipped. We had a lovely welcome from Betty & I would hesitate to recommend it & look forward to revisiting it myself. Thanks Barny.

  • it was my second stay in this beautiful apartment. for me it feels like my second home and there is nothing to complain really. everything is comfortable and clean and nicely made up. with the big windows in each room you are able to catch the afternoon sun on the couch - I enjoyed sun bathes on the lounge bed as well as siesta's.. I also highly recommend the Loft del Born Restaurant next to this house where we ate a couple of times and staff there was helpful in any way.. they where super friendly.. which I can't say about Bornmouth Restaurant on the other side of the house.. Barny is always quick in answering and helpful with any problems might occur- he makes sure somebody comes immediately to the flat if needed - but in general there isn't any problem at all. very comfy to have a upper floor lightful apartment + a lift up there. for me there is not better price=quality=service experience.. I had checked others myself + have visited my friends when staying same time in other short stay apartments. this is definitely the King . I had no bad experience with any neighbors + this apartment is also best to share with another couple or a friend or just come here with your kids.. the area is unbeatable the best area in this city..

  • What a great location! The apartment was lovely and clean and the hosts had generously stocked a few essentials like bread, milk and fruit which was much appreciated as we had just hopped off a flight from Australia. We stayed with our 2yo and the location could not have been better for us. Very easy walk to a huge park, the zoo, the beach, health club, and loads of delicious restaurants. Barny and betty could not have been more helpful... Reliable and on time with key delivery and pick up and very quick responses to all questions including providing a helpful list of things to do. Thanks for letting us stay barny... We had a great time!

  • The flat is wonderful, bright and tidy, with 2 rooms and 2 bathrooms, a large living room, a nice kitchen, and small balconies with nice views over my favourite neighborhood in Barcelona - El Born. Barny is a great host, everything was easy and perfect. He gave us good advices and tips for our stay in the city.

  • Barny. After our extremely long journey from Australia, we could not have been happier with our first accommodation experience in Spain/Europe this time: our own (your!) special apartment......it's location, it's ambience, etc and etc...
All praise for the warm and wonderful Betty. Thank you for your extensive notes and recommendations. I believe we had 4 visits to Casa Delfin, where Franco & Edna looked after us so well. We loved Barthelona, of course. Too little time and hope to return. We would not hesitate in choosing where to stay: Born again!!

  • Barny was an amazing host. He responded to all our questions very quickly and gave us all kinds of additional information about his favourite places and food in the neighbourhood.
On the day of our arrival, Betty met us at the apartment and was charming and thoughtful! The place was spotless
We especially loved the neighbourhood. The Born district is perfect with cafes and shops literally outside the door. Easy access to transportation too! Loved it!.

  • We stayed more than a week in Barny's apartment and it was the perfect base for our activities in Barcelona and Catalonia. We had a warm welcome by Betty. The apartment was prepared with some flowers, fruit, wine ... The communication with Barny was easy before our trip and during our stay there, allthough we had no big issues. We followed some of his fine recommendation. The barrio El Born offeres everything you would expect (email hidden)ly mediterranean neighbourhood. The most spots in the city are in reach by walking or by bike. Thank you Barny 'n' Barcelona.

  • This place is a real find. We had a wonderful stay in Barny's apartment - extremely characterful, charming place right in the heart of a great neighbourhood. Barny was a lovely host, nothing was too much trouble. He made us feel extremely welcome, suggesting some great places to eat and drink. We would definitely return.

About
I'm an experienced AirBnB host (and traveller) with a good understanding of what you need to make the most of this lovely city, from guidebooks and maps to local insights and recommendations. I used to rent a room in our lovely apartment in Barcelona through Airbnb, which was an exceptionally positive experience through which I made many friends and enjoyed numerous fascinating conversations with people from around the world - usually lubricated with a good bottle of red wine on a cafe terrace. These days I spend most of my time in Montpellier, France so I rent the whole apartment to groups, friends and couples taking a break in sunny Barcelona. After over 200 positive reviews Airbnb we were recently awarded Superhost status. We take guest satisfaction exceptionally seriously so, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch and we will get back to you quickly with an honest and objective reply.
