It was a wonderful house . Anyone needs refreshing air, quiet and beautiful house . i would tell him \her this is the house you want it . Thank you Terri
My family and I stayed there for almost a week in July during the Gettysburg 150 event, Cherri and Jerri were very responsive and helped make our stay a very pleasant one. Gettysburg is only a 30 minute drive down the mountain through some beautiful country.
the cabin is clean but does have the smell of a damp cottage and I assume this is because it is shut up a lot and not used all the time. There are the normal bugs and creatures to expect living in the woods. The creek and backyard are very nice. The shower, sinks and toilets use the creek water but this is fine and very soft water. You just need to get used to using the provided bottled water for drinking and cooking.
The nearby lakes are small but nice for a quick dip. The trails and woods have lots of wildlife being on a wooded hilltop.
There is no TV or Cell coverage which is nice and lets you know how dependent we are on those darn smartphones.
The owners are very attentive and take care of any issues very quickly.
I would give this place 5 stars except for the road traffic that goes by the cabin. The road is close by the front porch and there was traffic all day and much of the night. Part of this was because it was the 4th of July week but a lot of the traffic was local people using the road. There were trucks, motorcycles, and all kinds of vehicles. I would not recommend this cabin for people with pets or small children who don't know better than to stay out of the road. Also if you are looking for solitude you will have to walk a ways into the woods to find it. Staying out back of the cabin on the deck and by the creek can provide some buffer from the road but the sound of traffic is a constant reminder that you not alone. Riding a bike or walking on the road should only be done in off hours or buy those who are good at hearing and avoiding traffic. Up by the park there are stop signs that slow people down some, but by the cabin they are driving fairly fast.
Overall it is an inexpensive way accommodate a lot of people and save money doing your own cooking and grilling. It is centrally located so you can drive to a lot of different locations and use it for a home base. Gettysburg was hot, hectic and jammed full of people. It was nice to come back to the cool cabin and relax and recharge.
We had a great time staying at the cabin. It exceeded our expectations. The hosts made us feel very welcomed and offered valuable advice and tips about the area and facilities. Our kids LOVED exploring the creak, the hammock, the bunk beds, the indoor and outdoor games, and the whole cabin experience. The near by state park and lake is indeed 5 minutes walk and the lake is lovely. We wish we could have stayed longer and hope to come again in the future.
I stayed in Ira's family cabin with my husband and 3 close friends for Memorial Day week-end. We had a very good time. Terri and Cherri are the kindest and most helpful hosts I have ever met: doing everything possible to make our week-end wonderful. If they could, I am sure they will have avoided the rain we had each evening :-) I do not put 5 stars just because the water available for showers is a little bit short for 5 persons even having very short showers; notice: no problem for the restrooms and it was OK for a long week-end. We ENJOYED a lot the BBQ, the deck, the family table, the board games, and the badminton in the garden; unfortunately we could not do the outdoor fire and marshmallows the evenings due to the rain. The smaller lake is walking distance with a nice BBQ and picnic area and small sand beach, the bigger lake is 2 miles away - can be accessed by walking trail or car - with a larger sand beach, many picnic tables, possibility to rent canoe and pedal boats - what we did and we had fun! Please note: no cell phone and (email hidden) reception but this was just great to have good time with friends: we enjoyed the numerous board games - almost brand new!
I definitely recommend this cabin.
