Terri was very gracious and particularly helpful with the special needs of a family member requiring HC accessibility. The cabin was very well designed to accomodate a wheelchair from the multiple ramps to the beautiful roll-in shower - even both porches were accessible for sitting out in the cool evening air as well as the deck for sunning in the afternoon. All areas were spacious enough to provide access for the large electric wheelchair. The walkway from the kitchen area to the living room was a tight fit for a large wheelchair, but with minor shifting of the refrigerator, it was absolutely no problem. We thoroughly enjoyed the location of the cabin - it is in a very beautiful area of the state forest (Michaeux), yet convenient to major roads and the lakes (Laurel and Fuller). If you are looking to disconnect from a hectic life, this is the place. One of the nicest areas on the property was the seating area next to the creek. Sitting on the chairs under the trees beside the creek, watching the wildlife and listening to the bubbling water was just magnificient and so very relaxing. Our stay ended much too quickly. This is definitely one place that we will return to again ! Thank you so much, Terri, for a wonderful stay !!
A group of 10 of us stayed in the cabin for a long, fall weekend to celebrate my sister's upcoming marriage and this could not have been a more perfect location! The cabin is beautiful and situated in the perfect location for hiking, campfires, and generally enjoying being outside. Our only regret was that it wasn't summer time so we couldn't enjoy the lake-side beach literally a 5 minute walk down the road from the cabin! Terri is a terrific host - very communicative during the weeks leading up to our arrival as well as accommodating to such a large group. I would strongly recommend renting from Terri to anyone looking for a wooded retreat. Thank you Terri, we truly had a perfect weekend!
Kate, thank you for the wonderful review. I have a few questions. Did you have enough hot water for all 10 of you? When I went up to clean the cabin, there were many "lady bug" like bugs, which is unusual for this time of year. Were there many when you were there? Also, other than the potable water, was there anything that could have made your stay at the cabin better? my real email is (email hidden) if you would like to respond that way. Thanks, again and happy wedding to your sister....Loved the drawing and note in the cabin notebook......Terri
Terri provided clear and prompt communication through the booking process and during our stay. The cabin was as described and was very comfortable for our family and friends. It is conveniently located and is extremely relaxing.
The "Gettysburg Area Creekside Cabin" is a wonderful getaway.
Everything is well covered in the description and the previous guests reviews. You will notice the cabin ambiance - some folks would say it smells "damp", it does. If you have stayed in a woodsy cabin then you will understand - if you've never stayed in a log cabin in the woods - you might detect the smell. I have stayed in many cabins, it's a common characteristic - I love the ambiance. The cabin has everything you need and want for your comfort and convenience.
The close proximity to the lakes, Appalachian and other trails is great. Plenty of outdoor fun in every direction.
I plan to return to the "Creekside Cabin" - it is wonderful !!!
Fantastic home and great feel. This was perfect for a getaway from NYC with 8 friends for July 4 weekend. The creek and fire pit were perfect and proximity to top notch trails (flat rock trail and pole steeple trail) were exactly what we were looking for. Aside from pricing which was slightly on the expensive side (could have just been for the holiday weekend), you can't go wrong with Terri's home. She even left us two tanks of propane for grilling and 10 gallons of drinking water.
It was a wonderful house . Anyone needs refreshing air, quiet and beautiful house . i would tell him \her this is the house you want it . Thank you Terri
My family and I stayed there for almost a week in July during the Gettysburg 150 event, Cherri and Jerri were very responsive and helped make our stay a very pleasant one. Gettysburg is only a 30 minute drive down the mountain through some beautiful country.
the cabin is clean but does have the smell of a damp cottage and I assume this is because it is shut up a lot and not used all the time. There are the normal bugs and creatures to expect living in the woods. The creek and backyard are very nice. The shower, sinks and toilets use the creek water but this is fine and very soft water. You just need to get used to using the provided bottled water for drinking and cooking.
The nearby lakes are small but nice for a quick dip. The trails and woods have lots of wildlife being on a wooded hilltop.
There is no TV or Cell coverage which is nice and lets you know how dependent we are on those darn smartphones.
The owners are very attentive and take care of any issues very quickly.
I would give this place 5 stars except for the road traffic that goes by the cabin. The road is close by the front porch and there was traffic all day and much of the night. Part of this was because it was the 4th of July week but a lot of the traffic was local people using the road. There were trucks, motorcycles, and all kinds of vehicles. I would not recommend this cabin for people with pets or small children who don't know better than to stay out of the road. Also if you are looking for solitude you will have to walk a ways into the woods to find it. Staying out back of the cabin on the deck and by the creek can provide some buffer from the road but the sound of traffic is a constant reminder that you not alone. Riding a bike or walking on the road should only be done in off hours or buy those who are good at hearing and avoiding traffic. Up by the park there are stop signs that slow people down some, but by the cabin they are driving fairly fast.
Overall it is an inexpensive way accommodate a lot of people and save money doing your own cooking and grilling. It is centrally located so you can drive to a lot of different locations and use it for a home base. Gettysburg was hot, hectic and jammed full of people. It was nice to come back to the cool cabin and relax and recharge.
