I wish we could have stayed longer because the kitchen would have made even Julia Child excited - everything you could possibly need to cook up a storm. This cabin is in a secluded area with a capital "S". Very scenic and lovely. A gorgeous spot!
If you are looking for a quiet place in the woods for a peaceful get away - this is it. The cabin was clean, fully stocked with linens, towels, kitchen items - there was even coffee there for our first morning! We enjoyed our extended weekend in the woods.
This is a beautiful little cabin with all the modern amenities. We used it as a 'base camp' and during the day we drove to either Rocky Knob Rec Area in one direction or Fairystone State Park in the other direction for day hikes. Nice to come back to a comfortable and peaceful place. Somewhat secluded with sleeping for several people but it was just the two of us. Barbara had clear and simple instructions and was very nice to deal with. We'll stay here again.
We only had contact with Barbara over email but she was promptly responsive, organized and friendly, even though we were booking last minute. We found the cabin waiting for us in great shape. It's one large common room, a small loft above the common room, a screened porch and a modern annex of a well appointed kitchen and bathroom. As other reviewers have mentioned, there are no separate bedrooms which was not an issue for us as we were a couple traveling alone. We traveled in winter and enjoyed the wood stove very much - easy to use and plenty of wood provided. We opted to sleep downstairs on the futon, closer to the stove. It might be worth noting that beds are not set up when you arrive - linens are provided so you choose where you want to sleep and set up the bed yourself when you arrive. The futon was on the small side and not the best mattress which was fine for us for a few nights but might not be everyone's cup of tea. The location was peaceful and beautiful. The cabin was perfectly clean. The appliances in the kitchen and bath are great (fridge, gas stove, washer and dryer, etc.) and the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare simple meals. We would definitely visit again!
Cabin was a delight! Thanks for your place. It was a nice peaceful retreat to be in your place, where rest and appreciation can be had with all the amenities, even ac!
Blue Ridge is minutes away, as is Fairy Rock Lake, and Chateau Morrisette, where one can delight in Virginia's nature. Truly woodsy!
We were getting together for a college friend's wedding and wanted to spend some time enjoying the area. We had a great time at the cabin, made dinner in on Friday night and spent hours hanging around the fire pit. It was so much more fun than staying at a hotel would have been!
Barbara seemed to be a very nice hostess. The kitchen and bathroom areas were well appointed. We were disappointed that there were no bedrooms. The sleeping situation was overall poor without having a comfortable place for adults to sleep.
The directions from (website hidden)are not great. Remember to turn at the Bible Camp off 708. There are not markings for Trout Run.
Great little cottage in the woods to stay at to get away from the hectic city life.
Nicely positioned between Floyd and Hillsview if you are keen to listen to music in both places. Friday night jamboree in Floyd is a must.
The roads are extremely windy so you need to take care when driving but the view and scenery is imply superb. Easy access to Parkway drive.
The beds were not made when we got there and we took a little time to work out the sleeping arrangements as we were not keen to sleep in the loft. Others might not mind but it was not for us.
Kitchen is spotless and bathroom delightful and clean.
A nice stay
My girlfriend and I spent a July weekend at the cabin and had a fantastic time. The cabin is as good as it looks in the pictures on Airbnb and the host really knows what she is doing. Everything we needed was there, we only had to bring ourselves and food (she even has books and DVDs there for your use). The screened in porch is a nice way to enjoy the natural sights and sounds of the property (we saw several deer and heard owls calling at night). There is a very nice deck with a picnic table and grill (also a grill on the screened in porch) in the back yard if you prefer to sit outside. The area is great and the cabin is easily accessible. All the appliances are in excellent working order. We did not explore the woods on the property. We did go to the common area of the property owners which has some picnic shelters and grills right on the Smith River. There are two covered bridges within a few miles of the road leading to this cabin. If you want privacy, spend some time here. If you want nature, spend some time here. If you want a base for exploration, spend some time here and explore nearby Floyd, VA, Meadows of Dan, several wineries, Fairystone Lake Park, Philpott Lake and Dam and last but not least, the Blue Ridge Parkway. All of these are only a short, beautiful drive away. My girlfriend and I are already talking about our next trip to this beautiful cabin and property.
I and my lady friend had a wonderful time at this cabin. Very clean, well equipped and functional. Rustic and cozily appointed on the inside with all sorts of appliances (even an espresso maker I couldn't figure out how to work), washer/dryer, books, dvds, A/C to keep you comfy on those humid hot days. Most importantly, peaceful! Would definitely go back if in the area.
