Other things to note
City of Portland STR License Number: STHR-004477-2025

Please note that guests will need to abide by all Federal and Maine State and City of Portland rules and laws.

Please note that parties and events are not allowed, and the house may not be used for filming (beyond filming for personal use) without special permission, though posting videos to your personal social media is welcomed.

Unlike many Peaks Island rentals, we supply all linens and bedding, professionally cleaned between each stay.

If you are interested in renting a golf cart for more than just a couple hours, it is recommended to contact Mike's Carts or Peaks Island Golf Carts early in the spring as daily and weekly rentals fill quickly.

You are welcome to bring your car(s) over on the Casco Bay Lines ferry, but please pay close attention to the ferry schedules, as some boats do not allow cars. Also, ferry tickets cannot be reserve in advance, so please be prepared to wait in the car ferry line for an hour or more in the bust summer months when it is first come first served to get on the car ferry. Walk-ons as a passenger on foot usually don't need to wait, though sometimes in the summer you would need to wait for the next boat.

- 15-minute ferry ride connects you to Portland, offering scenic views and local charm.
- Directly in front of Ocean House, there are no buildings—just an open view of the ocean.
- A quiet road separates the house from the rocky shoreline.
- Rocky ‘beach’ in front of the house suitable for sunbathing and fishing.
- Sandy swimming beaches available elsewhere on the island.

We have a Nest camera outside on the corner of the house (on the pocket porch) set to monitor the ocean view from the house (you can see the live stream on our website), and the lower part of the driveway and street. Sound is not recorded. We also have a camera at the front door which monitors the front door activity and driveway.

Neighborhood highlights

The gorgeous, open-ocean, panoramic views from Ocean House, located on the 'Back shore' of Peaks Island, abound from every part of the front of the house, while the back of the house is nestled in by lush green local plants and tall birch trees. You will often have a crisp ocean breeze, even on warm days, with the refreshing salt air mingling with the relaxing sounds of the waves and the music of birdsong from the many native birds in this more open, peaceful, nature-filled part of the island.

Ocean House is located right across the street from 'Whaleback,' a well-known whale-shaped rock formation landmark on the island, and next to a unique WWII range station, with ocean views for miles. The house is set back from the street and elevated, and is purposefully surrounded by a lush green natural thicket of local plants, which provides both excellent views of the ocean, boats, and people, but also wonderful, peaceful privacy.

Peaks Island is technically a part of the vibrant city of Portland, Maine, though feels like a world of its own, including taking a 15 minute ferry boat ride (car ferry is an option) from Portland across Casco Bay to the island. Nicknamed 'the Coney Island of Maine' in the 19th century for its appeal as a tourist destination, it has continued to welcome summer visitors from around the world who come to enjoy its peacefulness, beauty, connection to the ocean and nature, WW2 historical landmarks, and its easy proximity to all the culture, award-winning cuisine, shopping, history, and outdoor adventures that Portland, Maine and surrounds have to offer.

The island itself boasts a number of small restaurants serving fresh seafood and lobster, cafe's with fresh coffee and baked goods, outdoor wood-fired pizza nestled in the woods, ice cream, live music, including the famous Reggae Sundays, souvenir shops and art galleries, and plenty of places to sip cold Maine-crafted beers or wine with a beautiful ocean view while watching glorious sunsets.

The island also offers golf cart rentals (a preferred mode of transport, allowing you to tour the 4 mile circumference of the island with great views and ocean breezes), bicycles, kayaks, and more. You can take a tour via golf cart of notable sites, or visit the world's only Umbrella Cover museum! You can also explore the old WW2 concrete bunkers, tunnels and towers that remain open on the the island, or walk the trails of the nature preserves. Fishing while you relax on the rocks, swimming in the refreshing Maine ocean, or attending a traditional Clam and Lobster bake are favorite activities. If desired, you can obtain temporary membership to the TEIA 'country club' which offers tennis courts, pickleball, basketball, sailboating, and social events in their historic building. There is also a community ball field, a library, BBQ and talent show nights, a small but stocked grocery store, and more.

Come give yourself the gift of a beautiful place to explore and recharge, and see why one of Maine's State mottos has been "Maine: The Way Life Should Be."

Hi! Raised in Maine, I had been coming to Peaks Island for years and dreaming of owning a place on this beautiful and special island. When the opportunity to purchase Ocean House arose, even though the house needed a lot of TLC, we jumped at the chance. It's undergone a number of major renovations to get it to the beautiful, comfortable place it is now, with more to come!
