a cozy room, street/basement level in private home with separate entrance, private bath with shower, refrigerator, microwave, coffee/tea maker.. queen bed (upgrade from double bed), but can accomodate a third person if necessary on a small pull-out couch .. on a main road, one mile from downtown Salem, train station, on bus route... features many restaurants in close proximity.. walk to downtown Salem where Peabody Essex Museum is located along with Derby/Pickering Wharfs, Salem Maritime Center, Witch Museum and much more...many shops along the way. Salem is a coastal town, located near many area beaches ... in summer, enjoy free concerts at The Willows Park right on the ocean and in August, a 2-day free Soul & Jazz Festival with incredible musicians from all over the globe in our little city ...
we now have 'wireless'!
and we've just added an air conditioner for the room ...
wireless access for phones, computers ... fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee/tea maker, breakfast items (cereals, eng. muffins, yogurt, juice, etc.) some toiletries available, towels, bath mats, face cloths, etc., extra pillow, blanket ... cable TV with about a dozen channels ...
Interaction with Guests
We try to be here when guests arrive and depart but if not possible, we make arrangements for them to let themselves in to the guest space and to check out easily ... for the most part, we give our guests their own private space and are here if they have any questions or needs ...
We are in a 'working-class' neighborhood, with some businesses alongside single/multi-family homes .. our street can be busy but the location of the guest room affords a good amount of peace and quiet ... free on-street parking, usually right in front of our home and a friendly, safe neighborhood where folks walk to and from downtown a lot...
we are a 20-min walk to the center of Salem, and we are on a bus route that picks up passengers right down the street ... taxi service is affordable and quickly accessed, or guests can drive to downtown in about 5 min.
no smoking, we want non-smokers please!! ... small pet/s possible, if very well behaved ... negotiable
As on my first visit last year everything about my stay was first rate. Julie communicates promptly and clearly, is very helpful, and just a nice person to deal with.
Julie was such a great host! We arrived later in the evening and she made sure to welcome us and see if we needed anything. Julie also checked in on us on our second day in Salem to make sure that we had everything that we needed and see if we were enjoying our stay. The room was great for my boyfriend and I, cozy and clean and had everything that we needed for the weekend. Eventhough the street that the house is on is a busy street, it was quiet in the house which was perfect. They're in a great location to walk to downtown Salem which takes about 20 minutes. If we're even in Salem again we'll definitely try to stay with Julie!
What a wonderful stay we enjoyed in Julie's home this past weekend! This was our very first experience with Air B&B...Julie has certainly set the bar high for our future experiences! From the initial communication, Julie was prompt, warm, and welcoming. She provided clear instructions and was flexible with our arrival time, as we were not sure if we would be caught in traffic prior to our arrival time. As far as the accommodation itself, Julie and her husband, Woody, have really thought of everything as far as making guests comfortable. The downstairs space (with a private entrance) is even lovelier than the photos, the brand new queen sized bed was incredibly comfortable, and the en suite bathroom and little kitchenette area (equipped with full fridge, toaster, Keurig coffee maker, microwave, snacks, and breakfast items) made everything extra convenient. The space is VERY quiet with very little noise from the street, which made it possible for us to sleep in a bit on Sunday morning...I wasn't expecting this from such a central location, but it really was quiet! In addition to the queen bed, there is a small pull out love seat, which Julie made up for my sister to stay over one night, which made our stay even more convenient. Julie checked in with us throughout our stay via email, asking if we needed anything and just to let us know that she was available if we had any questions...this was really nice. The location of Julie & Woody's home is very conveniently located near Salem, Peabody, Wenham, and a very short drive to the commuter rail or ferry to get to Boston. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to stay again on our next trip into the Boston area! We would highly recommend this accommodation to others traveling to the Salem area. Thank you so much, Julie & Woody!
It was such a pleasure to have you both in our home! and I'm thrilled that your sister got to stay with you and glad that she slept comfortably as well ... thanks so much for the lovely bath salts, I will definitely try them out very soon! We look forward to having you return ...
Julie was a wonderful host and certainly made us feel welcome. The location was accurately close to downtown and Essex St. as listed (about 1 mile walking distance). She was kind enough to leave breakfast foods, waters, and some toiletries for us. My friend and I will most certainly try to stay again when we revisit Salem in the future. Thanks Julie!!
Julie's place was great and accurate according to her posting. She was kind enough to even leave out some snacks. I would highly recommend staying here on your visit to Salem.
Julie (and her husband, Woody) are fantastic! After a 10 hour drive and arriving a couple hours late, we were greeted with warm smiles and shown the room. The room was perfect. So cute and comfortable! Julie provided us with clean towels, a variety of toiletries, and a bunch of snacks and breakfast items--and a keurig! The neighborhood is nice and quiet for being off of a busy road. There was always a spot to park when we returned from downtown just a few minutes away.
We were super happy with our wonderful room and hosts! Our only regret is we didn't stay with them longer. But we're hoping to stay with them the next trip to Salem!
Great room, very well located in Salem. Comfy beds, nice bathroom with shower! Street parking was useful and well located for both Boston Airport (stayed before we flied) and also great for a day trip to maine and New Hampshire! Also loved the snacks and treats Julie had for our arrival, would highly recommend!
we love having friends and guests stay with us, we hope to make your stay very comfortable and can help with directions and recommendations to local spots
