On the lava fields surrounded by Ohia trees you will find our cozy Lotus Dome. Embracing atmosphere with covered lanai, ocean view, a million stars at night, comfy Queen size bed and kitchen. At 50 feet outdoor bathhouse with shower, sink and toilet. Furnished Japanese style, a room with a view! Close to South point, Green & black Sand beach & snorkelfun bays. Kahuku volcano park is close, at 10 min, great hiking! Anyone is welcome, we are happy to receive you with a warm Aloha.

The space
The Lotus accomodates a maximum of 2 people. It is located on 3 acres of lava land, far enough from our house to have your own privacy and also close enough to walk over if you need something or have some questions. It is basic, a little bit like glamping, but very cozy. A real outdoor feeling in a protected area. And with the luxury of a fully equipped kitchen, with a ice cooler and with an outlet for evening lights and charging your devices. The outdoor shower is cool, mainly in the sun, and we have an option for a warm shower, either at our other airbnb or at our house. There is also a big refrigerator in a shared area underneath the main house, shared with our other rental. Strong Wifi is in a separate area, opposite of the Lotus, though there is a also a (weak) signal at the Lotus. The roof over the Lotus and the porch is sun-reflecting, so that makes the temperature really comfortable. There are blooming ali'i bushes and ohia trees all around; it is sunny in the day and cool at night. We live on 1800 ft (600m), makai side (ocean side), there is a nice cooling breeze making the temperature really comfortable. You'll find a million stars at night and in the day you hear the songs of many birds. Be aware that you also might hear some building noise, from a distance, during the day. We also have 2 cats, Lava & Jack. They are not allowed inside the Lotus, but especially Jack will come and greet you and he might hang out with you on the lanai.

Guest access
Very close to Kahuku Volcano park for nice hiking (open Thursday - Sunday), a couple of hidden swimming and snorkel bays, good also for beautiful hikes and swimming fun, South point, Punalu'u beach black sands beach- and also Green Sand beach is not too far away. On saturdaymorning there is the colorful Ka'u market, 10 minutes walk from our house, with fruits and vegetables, food and all kinds of clothing, plants and nice second hand gadgets to buy. On Wednesday morning there is a beautiful farmers market in Na'alehu with local fruit and vegetables, breakfast, Hawaiian music and beautiful things to buy.

The listed price is inclusive 17.25% Hawaii TAX! Also we will do our best to be there to welcome you and check you in ourselves. If we are not there for some reason, we will provide you with detailed self check-in instructions, so that you can easily find your way. Most of the time one of us is available though to show you around.

Neighborhood highlights

Ka'u country is unique for the lava, million starry nights, the blooming ali'i, ohia trees, nice local ka'u market on saturdays, with lots of fruit, vegetables and nice treasures to find out there and lots of hidden corners waiting to be found out there. Also there is a supermarket and gas station nearby, a coffee shop and some small restaurants. And beautiful Kahuku Volcano park is close, 10 minutes drive, great for hiking, open Thursday till Sunday. Manuka park is also 10 minutes drive, open every day.

Living here together with my Dutch wife Genevieve, on the Big Island of Hawaii, in the beautiful district of Ka'u. I love music, playing Ukelele, dancing Hula and snorkelling in the deep blue Pacific Ocean. I share all of this with Genevieve, together we dance lots of Hula, enjoy our land, enjoy receiving guests here, we host a couple of rentals, and we love sharing the aloha of the beautiful Hawaiian culture and stories. We also love to travel now and then but most of all we enjoy the Hawaiian islands.
