Cathy's place in Kapoho completely met our needs. Her photos, both of the accommodations and of the sites nearby are fine representations of what you get. Cathy and her husband, Robert,
were fine hosts. On one hand, they left us alone to do what we wanted but on the other they were helpful and they included us in activities like potluck dinners. One of the big plusses of her place, in our view, is the location: close to the ocean, good swimming and snorkeling (the best we found in Hawaii), near to Volcanoes National Park. The hosts were generous with us and loaned us snorkel gear, bikes and even noodles to float in the lava pool. Cathy also left us several arrangement of orchids which was nice.
Cat is a wonderful host, friendly, I just could ask questions, which came up about what to do and where that is.She and her family invited me even to share the easter dinner with them,q which was nice for me, as I got easter greeting cards from home , so it was even nicer. The room, provided is really big , with a great kitchen and a place for sitting outside.
There was staying another nice guy there as well , working with them, so I had contact with him , too.
The envirement of the house and around is stunning for a European , like me.You are in the rainforest and also at the ocean. There are tide pools with great coloured fishes and nice reefs, I also enjoyed.
And, last not least, The volcano is very interesting and also close by, I even made a boat trip during the night for seeing the lava flow, it was stunning and the boat ramp only 2miles away.
So altogether, I really recommend this place and I will come back, did not see everything.
Catherine is a wonderful and professional host. The location is really great. The tidal pools have the best snorkeling in the area. The coral reefs are beautiful, and fish in the pools are plentiful and colorful. The location is also close to the lava flow and volcano national park. The country charm and the relaxed pace was just what we needed for our break.

Living in one of the most beautiful places on the Big Island, near the lava flow (20 mins), best snorkeling (3-4 min walk), and Hawaii Volcanoes National park (45 mins) is awesome. We basically hang out as we have pretty much tried to retire from stressful jobs. We have met people from all over the world! Met some great people! Like people with a little luggage but not a lot of baggage.
