About this listing

Jomaro is a tradition house from Java and has rustic feel about it. We welcome those with a sense of adventure and curiosity. Life here is simple and traditional values are alive and well here.

The space

A piece of history, Jomaro Beach House is a traditional teak house from the island of Java and this particular one dates back to 1965. The property has a bit of the pirate feel to it and there is plenty of bounty to be had! It is ideal for families as it is for couples, newly weds or a group of close friends.

Jomaro is located in NE Bali and lies in a secluded spot jostled between coconut trees, jungle and the ocean right at your front door! The surrounding area is a quite peaceful fishing village and the locals are delightful, kind and helpful.

This part of Bali is home to some of the oldest Bali Aga villages, settlements that were not influenced by the customs brought to Bali from the Javanese courts. Some of these settlements were originally ancient trading posts with India, China, and beyond as long ago as the first century A.D.

DINING: You may ask the housekeeper's mother to cook your meals of traditional Balinese food. There are daily catches of fresh fish or you may wish to dine next door at the healing centre which has a reasonably priced menu. Home cooked meals are by request so please check as the family also have their temple obligations and cannot always prepare meals for guests.

SWIMMING: Right in front of your door is the Indian Ocean.

SUNRISE:
Every morning (obviously) in front of your balcony at around 5.30 – 6:pm and it’s a great way to welcome the day.

FULL MOON:
This is especially lovely at the Jomaro as the moon rises over the ocean, making the full moon especially romantic for those on honeymoons.

DOLPHIN SPOTTING: Can be arranged the cost is around RP 300.000 around US 30.00 for a 2 hour trip. Pak Mega and his son Putu are the family fishermen and you can buy tuna or other fish from them in season.

LES SACRED WATERFALL: The sacred waterfall is around 15min away and is a must see site.

DIVING: There are various dive sites in the area.

CEREMONIES: This is the Island of the Gods so many ceremonies throughout the year. The staff can let you know what's going on.

MIND - BODY - SOUL: There are regular yoga and meditation in the surround area as well spa treatments with one of our staff.

WINDSURFING: If you have your own gear you can windsurf in this area.

SNORKELING: You can snorkel right in front of the property and we usually have snorkel gear but sometimes they go missing and takes a while to reorder but equipment can be rented from the resort next door.

HAND PHONES: You can bring your phones as you can purchase SIM cards and get a local number for around $3 dollars including credit.

DIVING: Coral rehabilitation and other sustainable marine conservation area.

LOCAL BATHING POOL: In Tejakula’s main village there is a public bathing/washing pool, the water comes directly from the mountain so is constantly running. Male and female sections, no mixed bathing.

CHILDREN: If you have come as family and want a bit of time just the two of you, our house keeper can look after your children and teach them how to make temple offerings out of coconut leaves.

CAR RENTAL: If you want to get around the island a car can be arranged for hire with or without a driver.

Sound like home?....we thought not.

NB: There is internet via a modem and up to 6 guests can use it. You can buy credits on a SIM card to access the internet and the staff will be more than happy to supply those for you.

Please be aware that during rainy season the internet may temporarily be unavailable or connection low.

NB: Strictly No Pets

Guest access

Jomaro is rented as a whole house so there are no off bound areas to guests.

Interaction with guests

Our family runs and operates Jomaro but we are always discreet and you will not notice that we are there. We come to clean the house or help with children and cooking if you wish. On arrival we may ask if you are interested in certain cultural activities.

If you want somewhere to escape from the crowds, come here. Wake up to the sounds of the sea, get lulled to sleep by the same. Complete peace. The family are very welcoming and will help you as much as they can. Rustic with a taste of the wild, but clean and homely.

Jomaro is a rustic, beautiful place to stay. We really enjoyed the view from the house. The full moon and sunrise views were amazing!!! In addition to a beautiful place, our host was super helpful even before getting there. She arranged in the middle of the night transportation for us, which we will be forever thankful, as we had no idea how to get there. In general a great place to stay if you're looking for a place to relax.

It was an absolutely unbelievable stay, pure happiness! This villa made our Bali holidays truely authentic, the place is magic, the beach is peaceful, yoga and raw vegan dishes just next door. Good internet! Close to Sekumpul waterfall, a big supermarket in 40 minutes. Thank you Dewi for all! I want to come back.

We loved our stay in the Joglo. The family was incredibly nice and warm. The area is an amazing location. The housekeeper komang is a very sweet person. The house is a little bit run down but still charming for a couple of days. The Gaia Oasis next door serves delicious food and has a wonderful spa. I didnt like the shower of the joglo so much. The wall is really low and once I was really scared when a voyeur ( i have still no idea who it was, maybe the hotelstaff next door) climbed it up to stare at me...the family was really engaged to go find this person but no chance. Pak mega is the papa of the house. He came in the evenings to chat sometimes which made the stay special. He shared a lot of storys with us. To sum it up: it was wonderful with some blemish which can be fixed I am sure. Higher walls? or anythingelse to cover? Thank you for everything. Take care.

Our family is very traditional. Come and visit us and let us show you some Balinese hospitality.
