DIRECTIONS TO RED CLOUD RANCH, 27378 RED CLOUD, MOFFAT, CO 81143

FROM NORTH/DENVER AREA: Head south on 285 over Poncha Pass. Once past Villa Grove, take the 17S exit off of 285 and keep to the right. You will pass Joyful Journey Hot Springs on your left. My double green gates are exactly 1.2 miles south of Joyful Journey on your right (west) side. The property lights go on after dark and make it easy to spot. Be sure and use your turn signal well before turning.

FROM SOUTH/ALAMOSA/ TAOS/SANTA FE AREA: From Alamosa, follow the sign for Highway 17 NORTH. Take 17N past the Crestone turnoff and through Moffat. Be on the lookout for Mile Marker 116, about 10 miles north of Moffat. Immediately after Mile Marker 116, turn left through the two green gates, Be sure and engage your blinker well before turning. Give plenty of slow-down notice to vehicles behind you and watch for vehicles passing the vehicle behind you, not aware you are turning. Total drive time from Alamosa to the Airstream is approx. 50 minutes.

FROM MONTROSE/DURANGO AREA: Take the 114 EAST through Saguache. Merge onto the 285 NORTH. Exit 285 North onto 17 SOUTH. Bear right. In one mile you will pass Joyful Journey Hot Springs. I am exactly 1.2 miles past Joyful Journey, turn right through the two green gates.

FROM ASPEN/INDEPENDENCE PASS AREA: Continue east on 82 then go south on 24, towards Buena Vista. 24 turns into 285S, continue on 285S through Poncha Springs/Salida and over Poncha Pass. Once over the pass continue through Villa Grove on 285S then make a left onto 17S off of 285S. Bear right. In one mile you will hit Joyful Journey Hot Springs. Exactly 1.2 miles past Joyful make a right turn through my two green gates and follow the Airstream sign.
FROM EAST/PUEBLO/COLORADO SPRINGS: From Pueblo travel WEST on the 50 to Canon City, then on to Salida. This drive best done during the day - it is a beautiful drive along the Arkansas River. Travel through Salida and Poncha Springs then turn left (South) onto 285 South. Head south on 285 over Poncha Pass.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS: Before arriving it’s important to consider your supplies re food/drink. From the property, there are two options for supplies. Salida, 33 miles over Poncha Pass and to the north is a sweet mountain town on the Arkansas river with restaurants, a Safeway, Walmart and two natural food stores. There are also liquor stores, restaurants, cafes, etc. Crestone, 22 miles to the south and east, is a small, funky mountain town with food store, liquor store and restaurants. You do not need to buy or bring water - the water here is from a deep well and is amazing, healthy and life giving! Please check my Airbnb page for area highlights and other considerations.

Other things to note
BEFORE ARRIVAL: It is advisable to stock up on food/drinks for your stay. Fresh all cotton linens are supplied, towels also for shower or use at Hot Springs.

NAVIGATING TO RED CLOUD: Please do NOT follow your GPS, it will only get you lost. Follow my directions located on this site and you will have no issue.

PETS: We love pets (dogs & cats), and one or two small pets are possible. We treat each pet as an additional guest therefore appropriate fees apply. Pets are not allowed on the furniture including beds, sofa, dinette seating.

Because Airbnb currently does not allow an option for a pet fee, we ask that you treat your pet as an additional guest and use the 'additional guest tab' when booking. We accept up to two (2) additional guests maximum. In the event you are bringing additional guests AND pets, go ahead and book your additional guests using the 'extra guest' tab. The pet fee can be addressed in person or through the Airbnb resolution center.

Be aware coyotes do inhabit the valley floor and the area surrounding Red Cloud Ranch. While it is rare for a coyote to wander onto the property, they are attracted to domestic animals so it is advisable to not let your pet out of sight while accommodating at the ranch.

At no time can pets be 'left behind' while guests are out day-tripping, shopping or otherwise. We cannot take on the responsibility of looking after or out for your pet while you are away from basecamp.

ABOUT PAST REVIEWS HIGHLIGHTING CANCELLATIONS: On the very rare occasion (twice) in early Spring and late Autumn we have had to cancel bookings on short notice. This only ever occurs due to the onset of severe weather. Refunds are issued immediately with a well meaning apology. We are located at 8000 feet and during these periods weather can not only be unpredictable but dangerous for the traveller heading our way. We do our very best to accommodate all bookings. Thank you for your support and understanding!

Hiking in the Sangre de Cristo wilderness is a rich experience with well kept trails, running streams, aspen groves, elk herds and views beyond compare. The Great Sand Dunes National Monument is a 45 minutes drive south, and other attractions south include a crocodile farm and a ufo watchtower (no joke!).

Red Cloud Ranch is the ideal basecamp for exploring the great San Luis Valley. We are situated at 8,000 feet in the water-rich north end of the valley, one mile from Joyful Journey Hot Springs and at the base of the Sangre De Christo mountain range and its 14,000 foot peaks located due east. In sight and to the west is the continental divide and the 14,000 peaks of the San Juan range. In all directions, the view from Red Cloud is stunning. After dark, light a fire and enjoy the view. At this altitude, and with almost zero light distraction, you can see the stars past the stars. If the night sky is your thing, you will want to tote your telescope. And enjoy pristine drinking water pumped from our well.
