This is studio #17 - one of two private airbnb rooms (located in the same building). We designed the rooms as simple & affordable spaces for arts-related guests, for brief stays & short-term artist residencies near the heart of Seattle's downtown gallery district. But you don't have to be an artist to stay here - all are welcome!

This is a quiet private room located among 15 other art studios on the 2nd floor in the Japantown area of Seattle's historic International District. It has an upper bed-loft with a luxurious Novaform queen mattress & very comfortable bedding - plus a sweet skylight** above the bed. The lower portion of the loft has a small couch (not meant for sleeping), desk & chair, and other basic furniture. Free wifi and satellite TV w/HBO are included.
There's a shared kitchenette (not a full kitchen) and 2 shared bathrooms (one with a shower) in the hallway just outside the room. Although there are other artists working in the building, they don't live here and you'll find this room to be very peaceful & private. Most of the time you won't see anyone around in the common areas.
The nightly price is for 1 or 2 guests sharing the bed. The couch is not meant as an extra bed, and unfortunately we cannot accommodate extra guests in this room. But if you need a bigger place to stay, check out our condo listing which sleeps up to 3 guests: airbnb.com/rooms/1246769 - or see if our other room in this building is also available for your friends: airbnb.com/rooms/208356
Our calendar is always up to date, so what you see available online is totally accurate and there's no need to double check with us first. The price varies depending on the time of year.
The building is perfectly located for all forms of public transportation: the Light Rail train stop is one block away for easy, affordable access to SeaTac airport; the AmTrak train station is also just a few blocks away; quick easy access to many bus routes, including the Bolt Bus (1 block away); the waterfront with ferry terminals is just a short walk away.
There are many interesting shops and a wide variety of Asian restaurants in the neighborhood, including a really good sushi restaurant right in the building. Food options range from quick take-out to high end, and everything in between. Uwajimaya Asian specialty supermarket is close by, plus coffee shops & bakeries - you won't go hungry in this neighborhood!
Street parking is free after 6pm till 8am, and there are many pay-to-park lots all around us.
We're just a few blocks from the baseball & soccer/football stadiums. There are many bars and clubs within walking distance, and even more just a quick bus ride away. Since the building is right downtown you can also easily visit the Seattle Art Museum, Sculpture Park, Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, Experience Music Project, and many other great Seattle attractions.
Check our online Guidebook to see all the great restaurants & attractions we've bookmarked in our neighborhood, (this feature is best viewed in the full desktop version of the airbnb website rather than the mobile app).
** This room doesn't have a window, and the skylight doesn't open. For air circulation there's a ventilation fan on the ceiling which draws fresh air in from the hallway and out through the ceiling duct.
** there is a pretty long flight of stairs to get up to the 2nd floor, and you'll need to climb a ladder to get up into the bed loft.
** Before booking, make sure your user i.d. profile is complete, including a good photo of you - not your dog!
If you'll be using a lot of public transportation you might want to buy an Orca Card. You can load it up with however much $ you'd like, and then use it for quicker access when boarding the Light Rail train, buses, etc. Orca kiosks can be found near the ticket & boarding areas at most transportation hubs.

The loft was very comfortable and just what we needed for our one night stay in Seattle while traveling. The room was clean and the bed and couch were very comfortable. Dirk and Jaq made themselves available in case we needed anything and were very friendly and helpful.
We had an amazing stay at Dirk's and Jaq's apartment. It was right around the corner to Chinatown and close to almost everthing. We were walkig to every place we wanted to go and the central metro station is just a few blocks away. The room was great and the common areas really clean. Even if we didn't meet our hosts we got good instructions how to get to and in the house. I absolutely recommend to come here and Seattle is a really nice city. If I will come back one day I'll probably stay here again!
Our stay at Dirk and Jaq's loft fit our needs perfectly. Their space was quaint, personal, and in a good location. They were very communicative and hospitable making our stay that much more comfortable. They definitely went above and beyond to be great Airbnb hosts.
Third time staying at the loft, and still a charming place to stay. No surprises, everything is as it is described. Clean, comfortable, and central to all if you don't mind walking or taking public transportation. Helpful hosts and prompt communication. This is my go to place.
This place is just what the pictures depicted, a nice cozy studio space with a comfy bed placed in a loft! It was a great size for 2 to sleep and relax before we went out walking around the wonderful Seattle downtown. Dirk and Jaq left really informative notes all over to help know the space and how everything worked. This is a really great location for those that want to walk around and discover the sites of Seattle.
The downtown Seattle loft was everything that I expected it to be. It was in a great, central location close to everything downtown. Dirk and Jaq had everything well organized and it was easy to check in and out of the loft. I would definitely stay here again.

Hi, we're a married couple living and working in downtown Seattle. We started hosting on airbnb about 3 years ago, and we love it! We currently have 3 listings for you to choose from. The first 2 are single private rooms in an art building near the sports stadiums. Dirk has a contemporary art gallery there and Jaq has her painting studio there, so we're usually around. We also have a 1-bedroom apartment in the center of downtown near the Convention Center and popular attractions like the Pike Place Market. We travel and use airbnb just like you, so we understand what it's like to be a guest. As you can see from our many reviews, we'll do our best to make your stay easy & comfortable. If you have any questions just get in touch!
