This is studio #17 - one of two private airbnb rooms (located in the same building). We designed the rooms as simple & affordable spaces for arts-related guests, for brief stays & short-term artist residencies near the heart of Seattle's downtown gallery district. But you don't have to be an artist to stay here - all are welcome!
This is a quiet private room located among 15 other art studios on the 2nd floor in the Japantown area of Seattle's historic International District. It has an upper bed-loft with a luxurious Novaform queen mattress & very comfortable bedding - plus a sweet skylight** above the bed. The lower portion of the loft has a leather couch, desk & chair, and other basic furniture. Free wifi and satellite TV w/HBO are included.
There's a shared kitchenette (not a full kitchen) and 2 bathrooms (one with a shower) in the hallway just outside the room. Although there are other artists working in the building, they don't live here and you'll find this room to be very peaceful & private. Most of the time you won't see anyone around in the common areas.
The nightly price is for 1 or 2 guests sharing the bed. The couch is not meant as an extra bed, and unfortunately we cannot accommodate extra guests in this room. But if you need a bigger place to stay, check out our condo listing which sleeps up to 3 guests: airbnb.com/rooms/1246769 - or see if our other room in this building is also available for your friends: airbnb.com/rooms/208356
The building is perfectly located for all forms of public transportation: the Light Rail train stop is one block away for easy, affordable access to SeaTac airport; the AmTrak train station is also just a few blocks away; quick easy access to many bus routes, including the Bolt Bus (1 block away); the waterfront with ferry terminals is just a short walk away.
There are many interesting shops and a wide variety of Asian restaurants in the neighborhood, including a really good sushi restaurant right in the building. Food options range from quick take-out to high end, and everything in between. Uwajimaya Asian specialty supermarket is close by, plus coffee shops & bakeries - you won't go hungry in this neighborhood! We're a few blocks from the baseball & soccer/football stadiums. Parking is plentiful with most lots costing between $8-12/day. There are many bars and clubs within walking distance, and even more just a quick bus ride away. Since the building is right downtown you can also easily visit the Seattle Art Museum, Sculpture Park, Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, Experience Music Project, and many other great Seattle attractions.
Check our online Guidebook to see all the great restaurants & attractions we've bookmarked in our neighborhood, (this feature is only available in the full desktop version of the airbnb website, not the mobile app).
** This room doesn't have a window, and the skylight doesn't open. For air circulation there's a ventilation fan on the ceiling which draws fresh air in from the hallway and out through the ceiling duct.
• there is a pretty long flight of stairs to get up to the 2nd floor, and you'll need to climb a ladder to get up into the bed loft.
** Before booking, please note that we'll require that your user profile is complete, especially a verified email address & phone number which you'll be using during your trip.
If you'll be using a lot of public transportation you might want to buy an Orca Card. You can load it up with however much $ you'd like, and then use it for quicker access when boarding the Light Rail train, buses, etc. Orca kiosks can be found near the ticket & boarding areas at most transportation hubs.

Very easy communication, directions, and expectations. The loft was cozy (smaller than pictured) but nicely appointed. We loved the skylight above the bed and slept very soundly each night. I thought it was an interesting experience being in an artists' building! We walked everywhere around downtown and the Space Needle. When necessary, we easily found a Car2Go. Parts of this neighborhood felt unsafe at times. I loved the easy access of the Link Rail system, but we came in late at night with lots of bags and I would have taken a taxi from the airport if I had to do it over again.
This is how Airbnb was meant to be. Fast and friendly communication, centrally located, clean room with all the extras you need. We would stay there again anytime.
Great location near king station for easy departure to canada in the am. Had what I needed to get to me next destination. Thank you!
Great place, clean and easy to get to from multiple transit stations.
Dirk & Jaq provided clear direction and were quick to respond.
Everything was expected and even nicer. This was my first AirBNB experience, and it may have spoiled me a bit. Dirk and Jaq were super responsive, and do a great a job keeping the place clean and inviting. There were very thoughtful post-it notes near the key drop and in the room, answering any questions that arose. Location wise, it is walkable to Seattle's major attraction, and also <2 min walking to a large public transit center. Overall, I am looking forward to staying here again if I travel to Seattle again.
I really enjoyed my stay at Dirk and Jaq's place. The property is a quick 5 minute walk from the International District/Chinatown station and check-in was a breeze. The loft was clean as were the bathrooms, and the bed was very comfortable too. I'd recommend this loft to anyone visiting Seattle for a short stay. The price was very affordable and I'd gladly stay again.
We just stayed there for one night but it was perfect! Small, clean, got everything you need, close to Downtown&main attractions! But the best-the bed was sooo confortable! Very quiet area as well! The communication with Dirk&Jaq was easy and they even allowed us to let our luggage there before&after ceckin-in/check-out! Very kind-thanks a lot for everything!
Excellent loft. Everything was very well organized in terms of picking up the keys and checking out. Bed was very comfortable.
I was very impressed by the cleanliness of the kitchen and bathrooms.
Location was excellent. We had come to go to a Mariners game and the walk was less than 15 minutes to the park.
If you're looking for a simple place that is located right downtown this is perfect.
Thanks Dirk and Jaq, everything was really smooth. the place was really well located, clean and comfy. Exactly what I was looking for!
Cool little loft conveniently located! Would definitely stay here again
