Ellie’s Koloa House near Poipu Beach is outstanding. Ellie pays attention to details. The house is beautifully appointed, with nice furniture, artwork, cabinets, beds, and a fully equipped kitchen. It’s the details that make this house such a great place to stay, in addition to it being exceptionally clean.
From outside the home when you first pull up, the landscaping makes it look like an island paradise. There are palm trees surrounding the home, apple-banana trees, a lychee tree, and another tree that looks like it has avocados growing from it. The lanai (a carport converted into a lanai) is tastefully decorated with two couches, a chair, and table, and plants providing screening at the opening for some privacy.
The rooms are not large, which is expected on a small, desirable island. There is a small kitchen with very nice and clean countertops, a spotless refrigerator, and a gas range. There is a moderately sized family/living room that adjoins the kitchen, and two small bedrooms, both with comfortable beds, one with a queen and the other a full-size. The bathroom was spotless and includes all the necessary things like soap, shampoo, and even shaving cream.
Also included are boogie boards, chairs (4), two umbrellas, and plenty of beach towels.
As far as the host, Ellie was a joy to work with. She was very accommodating and came over the first morning we were there to explain all the things the island has to offer and recommendations on what to do. Her recommendations were very helpful and spot on.
Two things to note, neither of which were problems for us - in fact, they were actually desirable. The first is that the home is located in a quiet residential neighborhood. This is a plus, unless you want to be right on the beach with a bunch of other tourists. The town was a five minute walk and the beach a five minute drive away. The second is that there is no air conditioning, which again was fine with us. We were there in late June when the temperature was in the upper-80s. But with the fans in the three rooms and the cross breeze from the two doors, it was sufficient to keep the home cool. The windows are always open, which allowed us to enjoy the sounds of birds and the wonderful smells of the island.
We would definitely stay again!
The listing is accurate, the house is in a great location! It is very comfortable and cool, with a nice garden. In the morning it is great to wake up with a lovely concert of various birds. The hostess is nice but doesn't seam to have much time to inform the guests about beaches and things to do. She only gives an illegible photocopy of the map of the nearby area. Fortunately there are many info publications at the airport. I had to buy beach gear (umbrella and tubes) since there was only a small umbrella available and the beach chairs were quite old and rusty.
Our stay was memorable! I absolutely would stay here again and will recommend it to friends. We loved the house and the beautiful landscape. We especially appreciated that it was instantly comfortable, clean, tastefully decorated, and geared with everything we needed and more (beach chairs, towels, tennis rackets, balls, literature on Kauai...). Ellie greeted us and showed us her aloha ways throughout with tips and advice on where to go and what to do. The house is situated on a quiet street, a short walk away from historic Koloa, grocery store, restaurants, and a short drive away from beaches. Go ahead and stay here... we give it a perfect score.
Ellie made every effort to make us feel comfortable, with emails before our trip talking about some of the activities and helping maintain a feeling of connection during the months before we traveled. The house was comfortable even during the cool wet winter days, and is very well located- on a quiet street within 5 min walking distance of lots of shops and restaurants in Koloa, and only 2.6 miles from Poipu beaches. Ellie brought over some tennis racquets [and balls!] so we could enjoy playing on the public courts, gave us a great handdrawn map of activities and local details, and was available by phone . All new kitchen- wi fi, and a small surfboard to take to the beach. The outdoor covered lanai was a special treat for chatting, reading, and eating. Artistic furniture, louvered glass to let in the breezes, nice paintings on the walls, comfy towels and queen beds, beach towels- and we enjoyed cooking local foods to enjoy each night. We would definitely go back.
The reservation was canceled 20 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Ellie was very kind, generous, and hospitable to myself and my four other friends- I definitely recommend this space and will recommend it to all of my friends.
