About this listing
Bright & sunny studio apartment with city view, full kitchen. Up a few steps to door. Queen bed; remodeled bathroom. Easy street parking; close to many buses,BART (goes to airport). Quiet street but short walk to restaurants, shops, bars, cafes etc.
Sunny studio apartment in a Victorian house with private entrance and free all day street parking. This is not a luxury apartment, nor an ultra modern one. Good choice for people who want to cook some meals at home; take public transportation around the city or to & from the airport; or park a car.
Main room features a big bay window facing south with city view. Hardwood floor, small kitchen with gas stove, full size refrigerator, microwave, dishes and cookware. There is a table with two large leaves to extend it. Closet, chest of drawers and flat screen tv. I have an Aero bed for babies; no extra charge if your child is 3 or younger.
Carpeted hallway leads back to the renovated bathroom; it's about 7 x 11 feet and has a tiled shower and floor; toilet with warmed seat and bidet functions. Bathroom ceiling height is about 6 ft 4 inches. Super quiet ventilation fan. Good forceful showerhead.
The neighborhood is safe and quiet. Easy street parking unless you come back late at night, in which case you may have to walk a couple of blocks--try Holly Park or Agnon St. (I have lived here over thirty years, with car, using street parking). Close to 3 or 4 buses; and you can walk to the Glen Park BART (subway) station, which goes to the airport or downtown. Short bus ride (#14) to Mission district (the bus runs all night, saving you parking $) or to downtown (30 minutes). You can get downtown in about 20 minutes with the 14R bus--check stop times on internet because it doesn't run as frequently as the 14. Bus at corner (#23) goes directly to the Zoo and the beach. The #49 bus takes you to Fisherman's Wharf ( 50 minutes). And the #24 bus on Cortland takes you to the Castro district.
The neighborhood, Bernal Heights, has a village feel to it. Be sure to walk to Cortland Avenue, where you will find a good organic grocery store, coffee shops, bookstore, bank, library, art gallery and Italian, Mexican, Chinese, California, Japanese and other restaurants. Check out Heartfelt, a cute gift shop with unique items and walk to the top of Bernal Hill to get a great view of the city. Visit the Farmer's Market on Saturday and Flea Market on Sunday at the end of Crescent Avenue (walk or take #23 bus).
The studio apartment.
Interaction with Guests
I greet guests when they arrive and show them around the apartment. I check with them the next day to see if they need anything. I live upstairs and am happy to answer any questions guests might have about the neighborhood.
Bernal Heights neighborhood has a friendly, village feel, with interesting shops and good restaurants, including a café and a library with internet access. There is also a bicycle shop where you can rent an electric bike ($85 all day, 24 hours). Flea market on Sundays and Farmer's market on Saturdays are nearby. Climb Bernal Hill for a fantastic view of the city.
Street parking is free and (usually) easy. Also plenty of public transportation--you can take the subway to and from the airport or to go downtown. Several nearby buses go to all parts of the city--the #14 to downtown and Embarcadero; the #23 to Ocean Beach and Zoo; the #24 to Castro area; the #49 to Fisherman's Wharf.
