Large studio apartment, bright & sunny, with full kitchen. Queen size bed; satellite tv; remodeled bathroom. Easy street parking; close to BART with airport connection. Quiet street but short walk from restaurants, shops, bars etc.

The Space

Sunny apartment in a Victorian house with private entrance and free street parking. This is not a luxury apartment, nor an ultra modern one. Good choice for people who want to cook some meals at home; take public transportation around the city or to & from the airport; or park a car.

Studio features a big bay window facing south with city view. Has hardwood floor, small kitchen with gas stove, full size refrigerator, microwave, dishes and cookware. Kitchen counter is new, refrigerator newish, but stove and microwave are older. There is a table with two large leaves to extend it. Closet, chest of drawers and flat screen satellite tv. Comfortable queen size bed and I also have an aero bed for babies; no extra charge if your child is 4 or younger.

Carpeted hallway (new July 2012) leads back to the renovated bathroom; it's about 6 x 11 feet and has a tiled shower and floor; and toilet with warmed seat and bidet functions. Bathroom ceiling height is about 6 ft 4 inches high. Super quiet ventilation fan. Good forceful showerhead.

The neighborhood is safe and quiet. There is a laundromat about a block away. Easy street parking unless you come back late at night, in which case you may have to walk a couple of blocks--try Holly Park or Agnon St. (I have lived here over thirty years, with car, using street parking). Close to 3 or 4 buses; and you can walk to the Glen Park BART (subway) station, which goes to the airport or downtown. Short bus ride (#14) to Mission district (the bus runs all night, saving you parking $) or to downtown (30 minutes). You can get downtown in about 20 minutes with the 14L bus--check stop times on internet because it doesn't run as frequently as the 14. Bus at corner (#23) goes directly to the Zoo and the beach. The #49 bus takes you to Fisherman's Wharf ( 45 minutes). And the #24 bus on Cortland takes you to the Castro district.

The neighborhood, Bernal Heights, has a village feel to it. Be sure to walk to Cortland Avenue, where you will find a good organic grocery store, coffee shops, bookstore, bank, library, art gallery and Italian, Mexican, Chinese, California, Japanese and other restaurants. Check out Heartfelt, a cute gift shop with unique items and walk to the top of Bernal Hill to get a great view of the city. Visit the Farmer's Market on Saturday and Flea Market on Sunday at the end of Crescent Avenue (walk or take #23 bus).

Guest Access

The studio apartment.

Interaction with Guests

I greet guests when they arrive and show them around the apartment. I check with them the next day to see if they need anything. I live upstairs and am happy to answer any questions guests might have about the neighborhood.

The Neighborhood

Bernal Heights neighborhood has a friendly, village feel, with interesting shops and good restaurants, including a café with internet access. There is also a bicycle shop where you can rent an electric bike. Flea market on Sundays and Farmer's market on Saturdays are nearby. Climb Bernal Hill for a fantastic view of the city.

Getting around

Street parking is free and (usually) easy. Also plenty of public transportation--you can take the subway to and from the airport. Several nearby buses go to all parts of the city--the #14 to downtown and Embarcadero; the #23 to Ocean Beach and Zoo; the #24 to Castro area; the #49 to Fisherman's Wharf.

  • Rita was so friendly and accommodating. She made sure we had access to the apartment in case she was not there to let us in. Luckily she was there and we got a short tour of the accommodations. The place is small but well decorated and cozy. Has a nice view of a park across the street and parking was super easy. Easy to get to, near the highway exit, but still quiet. Would stay again given the chance.

  • This was a basic set up. It was functional. Close enough to the Bart and Courtland street. It serviced it's purpose.

  • We had a nice stay here. Very nice light in the bedroom. The bathroom was very clean and modern. Nice location. Close to bus stops and worked out well for me because I had to work a few days in downtown and it was a breeze getting there. We also had a car, and parking was not that difficult during the day. BART is a bit further walk, not sure if I would use that if coming home late at night. We took taxi from North Beach one night, it's about $20. Be sure to walk over to Cortland and visit shops and restaurants. If you are there on Saturday or Sunday check out the Alemany Farmers market on Saturday and they have a flea-type market on Sunday. It's also a nice walk to the Mission St/Valencia St corridor too which you should explore if you are visiting. There was a slight mixup at checkin but was quickly resolved.

  • Rita's apartment was very cozy and filled with light in the morning, which we liked. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great. Rita was very nice and accommodating. When we made a request for something she doesn't normally provide, Rita kindly granted our request, and we appreciated her kindness. The apartment is in a nice neighborhood, within walking distance to a bus stop to downtown and local restaurants. We had a great stay.
