Bright studio apartment with bay windows facing south. Queen bed & fold away cot or mattress on floor for third person. Refrigerator, microwave, slow cooker, induction burner, etc. Half wall separates kitchen from bed. Washer & dryer; TV. Easy street parking, close to buses & BART. Quiet street & neighborhood; short walk to restaurants, shops, bars, cafes. Gourmet food shop, bike rental shop, organic grocery store nearby with deli take out items like sushi, salads, roast chicken.

The space

Large studio apartment in a Victorian house with private entrance and free all day street parking. This is not a luxury unit, nor a modern one. Good choice for people who want to cook some light meals at home; take public transportation around the city or to & from the airport; or park a car all day. Best for two people; however, it can sleep three (with fold out cot or mattress on floor for third person).
Main room features a hardwood floor & big bay window facing south with city view. There is a table with chairs by the bay window. Closet, chest of drawers and flat screen tv. For a 3rd person, I have a cot which can be set up in the main room or hallway & folded up during the day; or twin mattress.
There is also a refrigerator, microwave and induction burner at one end of the room partially walled off from the sleeping area. Ample cooking gear, dishes, etc. A small washing machine & dryer for your use in adjoining room.
Carpeted hallway leads back to the new bathroom; it has a tiled shower and floor and toilet with bidet wash function. There are 2 steps to get into the bathroom. Bathroom ceiling height is about 6 ft 4 inches. Super quiet ventilation fan and good forceful showerhead.
The neighborhood is safe and quiet. Easy street parking unless you come back late at night, in which case you may have to walk a couple of blocks--try Holly Park or Agnon St. (I have lived here over thirty years, with car, using street parking). Close to 3 or 4 buses; and you can walk to the Glen Park BART (subway) station, which goes to the airport or downtown. Short bus ride (#14) to Mission district (the bus runs all night, saving you parking $) or to downtown (30 minutes). Bus at corner on Crescent (#23) goes to BART station, the Zoo and the beach. The #49 bus takes you to Fisherman's Wharf ( 50 minutes). And the #24 bus on Cortland takes you to the Castro district.
The neighborhood, Bernal Heights, has a village feel to it. Be sure to walk to Cortland Avenue, where you will find a good organic grocery store, coffee shops, bookstore, bank, library, art gallery and Italian, Mexican, Chinese, California, Japanese and other restaurants. Check out Heartfelt, a cute gift shop with unique items; and walk to the top of Bernal Hill to get a panoramic view of the city. Visit the Farmer's Market on Saturday and Flea Market on Sunday at the end of Crescent Avenue (walk or take #23 bus).

Interaction with guests

There is convenient lockbox 24-hour check-in. I live upstairs and am happy to answer any questions guests might have about transportation, restaurants, etc. Ring my doorbell or text or phone me.

Other things to note

Ground level apartment, but note there are six steps, in 2 stages, leading from sidewalk up to the apartment front door.
If you come back late and can't find parking on my street, try Agnon or Holly Park. Also, PLEASE READ THE STREETS SIGNS. 4 days a month (2nd & 4th Mondays & Thursdays) there is street cleaning 8 to 10 am & you must park on correct side of the street or else get up at 8 and move the car; or you may get a ticket. The apartment was great, with lovely view. We had everything we needed and found parking easily. Rita was very responsive and we would stay here again!

We stayed at Ritas studio apartment for 6 nights. It is a cozy place with it's own charm and convenient location to both markets and restaurantes. Still we feel that the cleaning in both kitchen and bedroom area should be a little bit better. There were dust and spider webs hanging from the ceiling as well as coffee stains on the kitchen cabinets. Besides this it was an odor/smell from the kitchen area. It is hard to set a finger on what it is, but we felt like having the window open during daytime to air out the smell.

A bit disappointed by the apartment as it has great reviews and we did not feel like it was that great. The apartment does have a bad smell but other than that, the bed was great, bathroom was spacious. If it's to spend a couple of nights, it is okay. Easy to park on the street and very nice view from the house!

Response from Rita:
Ophelie, the bathroom doesn't have a window, so you need to use the fan and leave the door open after showering. Since you said the smell came from the hallway and bathroom, that's probably the cause.

Rita was very nice, the place was a little outdated and smelled a little funky, but we dealt with it. Our main concern is we didn't know she had a cat and my wife is extremely allergic to cats so she almost had an asthma attack when we got there the first day. I decided to look up Rita's other listings and there she said she had a cat in the main house/outside, but when I did the laundry the next morning the cat was right next to our door so that should've been listed. Other than that it was an okay place to stay!
