Nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, sits the colorful, little casita, the "Taos Bird House". This cozy nest is surrounded by mature trees and the wrap around deck overlooks the Rio de Fernando, Taos river (runs, seasonally). You'll enjoy bright, cheery colors, plush amenities and original art in this beautiful casita. Minutes from shopping, art galleries, hiking, museums and delicious restaurants! We are 1.5 miles to the town Plaza and 20 miles to the Taos Ski Valley.

The space
This 350 sq. ft. private oasis, sits on half an acre with the main house (the main house dates back to 1795)! The casita overlooks the Rio de Fernando Taos river (runs seasonally, the river is snow run off and water flow varies per year). You'll enjoy listening to the birds chirp from the multi-level wraparound deck, and the water babbling in the river. Seating for four on the upper level, is perfect for outdoor dining, while the lower level is equipped with piñon fire wood and a smokeless Solo Stove fire pit, perfect for the chilly nights! Due to insurance reasons, we don’t allow fires inside but have flickering, LED candles to add to the ambience. For additional relaxation or a nap, enjoy the outdoor hammock! Upon entering the Taos Bird House you will notice the bright, vivid colors and instantly feel the Taos vibe! A small, table for two sits in the corner and the kitchenette has a mini fridge and microwave (no oven or stove). A Keurig coffee maker is on the counter with coffee, creamer and sugar for guests to enjoy. A beautiful, handmade queen bed frame sits in the middle of the room (new mattress). 1000 thread count Egyptian Cotton sheets, luxury Turkish bath linens and brightly colored bedding will make you feel right at home in Taos. Extra blankets, pillows and towels are provided. The TV sits above the dresser and has Amazon Fire TV, Netflix and Hulu if you feel like binge watching your favorite show and prefer a night in. Guests can pick apples, apricots and pears on the property in late Summer - Fall. My husband, Howard (co-host) is the artist that painted all of the bird art in the casita (weliver.com). It's like living in a gallery with all of the beautiful, original art. If you’d like a studio tour to see more art, please let me know, we’d be happy to show you around our little piece of paradise!

After having an estate sale and selling 99% of our stuff, my husband and I left Dallas in 2015 in our RV to live the dream of traveling and working on the road. We visited 28 states and 30k miles later we rolled thorough Taos, NM and fell in love with the beauty, culture and arts. Before heading back to Dallas in 2017, for the holidays, we left NM owning 5 acres in Arroyo Hondo (30 minutes North of Taos). Our plan was to build a home but that proved to be too expensive so we found this place and the rest is history!

The original part of our adobe house was built in 1795 and has been added onto a few times. When we first looked at the property we fell in love with the casita that was right on the river. We knew this was the place for us. Our property also has several fruit tress that we invite guests to pick and take as much as they want! We have put our heart and soul into the Taos Bird House and we hope our guests will enjoy every second they are in the casita and in our beautiful city! The Taos Bird House is in honor of a bird we found while traveling on the road that we named Hannah Montana. We found her at such a young age that she thought we were her parents and had no intention of flying away. She lived with us for 6 months and then passed but we enjoyed her sassy attitude and cuddles at night while she was aboard the RV. We look at birds in a whole new light thanks to her wonderful spirit.

Howard is a local artist here and is represented at a few galleries in town. All of the art are his originals and part of his popular spirit animal collection. Private studio tours can be arranged as well. Welcome to Taos, enjoy your stay!
