About This Listing
Enjoy panoramic ocean, cliff and mountain views from our romantic 'overgrown beach house' ... so easy to relax surrounded by luscious tropical colors, rustling coconut palm fronds and, of course, sparkling blues of the ocean all the way to Hana!
We're a perfect honeymoon hideaway! "Ocean Lookout", a LICENSED accommodation, is well named, with two hundred degree ocean and cliff views all the way along Maui's north shore cliffs to Hana. This gorgeous private suite is the top floor of our delightful 2 story home. (We leave the lower floor empty so you always enjoy full privacy and serenity). For an added fee, we can make the WHOLE HOUSE available for rental - just mention this when you inquire and I'll get back to you with a special offer - it's an extra $100 per night to double the size of your accommodation and include another GORGEOUS master suite - so 4 adults + kids). Please note, though, that the whole house option would only be available for a one week minimum, whereas Ocean Lookout has a 3 night minimum.
We're 20 mins by car to the beautiful "local style" towns of Pa'ia and Makawao for great shopping, dining, beaches. Gorgeous tropical gardens, pool (shared), hot tub(private)... hammocks ... full kitchen ... huge teak dining table ... free wifi.
Ocean Lookout has a master suite with bathroom & dressing room, a fun kitchen with everything you could possibly want, a gorgeous dining room with magnificent teak table that comfortably seats 10, a living room to spread out in ... and, of course, wave crashing views from every room. (Just wait for whale season! It's spectacular!)
The whole house(Lookout House) is ideal for families, or couples traveling together. But if just two of you are traveling, then "OCEAN LOOKOUT" is plenty of space for you, and will save you a few dollars too.
Ocean Lookout/ or whole House may also be rented in co-ordination with our other accommodations, Rainbow & Star Lookouts and Haleakala Cottage, which are on the same property.
WE LOVE LAST MINUTE TRAVELERS ... PLEASE ASK ABOUT OUR SPONTANEOUS GETAWAY DISCOUNTS! :)
We are a fully permitted vacation rental - permit # BBPH 2009/0015 - so price INCLUDES your 13.42% tax.
Our beautiful 44 ft" jungle pool" is shared but you rarely see anyone else at all as everyone is out exploring the island! And also, each accommodation is landscaped for absolute max privacy ... and has its own private hot tub, lanais and barbecue areas
Interaction with Guests
Our guests love their privacy - but we're always happy to chat/ answer questions etc and guests have our personal cell #'s if we're off property.
Huelo has the atmosphere of a small Hawaiian village lost in time ... Maui has 13 different microclimates and we love the changeability of ours! Green, lush ... rainbows ... blue skies ... never the same ...
You will need a car to reach us, and for exploring the island
Other Things to Note
Free rainbows! Free wifi!! Free parking, no "resort fees"! free laundry! That's 'aloha'!
Our central location ensures that you have that 'away from it all' feel ... but it's only a 15 mins drive to nearest restaurants and grocery stores. We're very much for the independent, self sufficient, off-the-beaten-path traveler - one who delights in the 'real' Maui, rather than in the plastic tourist images.
We are licensed & permitted, so we will ask you to pay tax on arrival (13.42%)
We're a quiet retreat, so always ask that guests respect others' privacy and peace ... no amplified music etc. No smoking or drugs please.
Ocean Lookout is a beautiful 1000sq foot suite - the whole upper floor of the Lookout House. No one will be downstairs, so you're always private & serene
If you're looking for your own, private house overlooking the ocean from your own slice of paradise in the middle of Maui's jungle, Ocean Lookout will simply not be beat. All for the price of a condo or room in some God-forsaken resort filled with howling tourists.
Private. Private. Private. Your own house. Your own hot tub. Your own washer/dryer. Three decks. Deck for outside dining for 6.
Giant kitchen. Gas burners. Great knives. Dishes, pans, everything you'd need to cook and serve meals just like home.
And a washing machine to do the grunt work.
Everything in the house was immaculate. The floors, cabinets, every surface, every room, every window.
We watched the sun rise every morning and--from bed--and had a 270 degree view of the coast.
The single most beautiful kitchen table we've ever seen. A weird thing to note, until you see it and use it every day.
We arrived at Lookout House to a platter of fresh fruit and all the cooking essentials we'd need for the week.
Sharyn was available at all times by phone, but never intruded. A wonderful, friendly host.
It's one of those places that -- awesomely -- can't really be captured with photos. As good as it looks here, to be in it is an altogether incredible experience.
The windward side of Maui is filled with beauty, coconuts, private estates, tiny bug-eating geckos, refreshing afternoon showers, crazy flowering plants...everything but giant hotels and tourists. So if you're all about the room service and all-inclusive resort experience, this probably isn't for you. You'll need a rental car, you'll probably want to shop for your own groceries and cook a bit, especially if you're coming for more than a night or two. For us, all of this was obvious, and what we came for.
There was no garlic press. Which, literally, was the only "con" wrong we could think of. A con so small, we forgot to mention it to Sharyn while we were there. A truly perfect experience.
OMG no garlic press! You make me laugh Mike. Do you believe we USED to have one - but it got rusty because no one used it? But, just for you, when you come back, I'll have one in the fridge with a plumeria wrapped around it - that's a promise!
Love to you both,

About the Host, Sharyn
My husband Jeff, and I, have lived in Maui since we fell in love with it in 1992. We'd stayed in B&B's all through England and Wales, and thought "Why would anyone want to stay a hotel?" We love the personal touches and we love being able to give people a 'real' experience of Maui.
In my 'spare' time, I write poetry, short stories and scripts - and I also perform in live theatre and theatre improv. Maui is fun!
