Winding streets invite exploration in this part of El Born. Pretty squares, small bars and multi-ethnic shops and restaurants dot the area. And the Palau de la Musica concert hall is the star attraction.
If you stay here (and even if you don’t), get a ticket for a show at the splendid Palau before proceeding. You won’t regret it. Now let’s get lost in the Born backstreets. Look out for Santa Catarina Market and the St. Agusti Convent. Then pick a terrace for an alfresco lunch. Dessert? The Chocolate Museum beckons.

Silvia is a wonderful host, and her English skills were especially useful since my Spanish is not up to par. This apt. was in a great location for a young tourist looking to spend time in one of Madrid's hip and central areas. It is conveniently located next to the Gran Via metro stop, several bus lines, and many restos and bars.
Note, you have to be fine walking up 4 flights of stairs if you are going to be comfortable in this spot!
