This place was great. Although I can understand if for some people who wan peace and quiet in a mountain town being right next to a rather noisy main road can be a deal breaker, especially in summer when you want to open the windows, this is what allows the wonderful host to keeps the rates reasonable and affordable. In fact, the location is convenient for guests arriving on their own by train, since it's only about a 10-minute walk from the station along the main road. A place higher up in the mountain might be a challenge for some to climb to on foot with all their luggage. The location is also just across from the beautiful little Simme River which runs through Lenk.
The place was actually a little bigger than I had imagined from the photos. In addition to the master bedroom in a separate room, the living room with the additional bed is also separate from the kitchen/dining room area, so both rooms offer privacy.
One really great thing about Tony's place is how much attention to detail he put into having every amenity available, from all the kitchen utensils you could need, to an array of area maps, tourist information and activity guides, to a hair dryer and iron, to a clean, very functional bathroom, to an umbrella for a rainy day, to a washing machine, to a fly swatter.
You'll need that fly swatter in the summer, though if you wish to open the windows to get some fresh air, because one of the charms of the Swiss countryside is Swiss cows, whence come creamy Swiss milk and butter and of course provide a key ingredient in delicious Swiss chocolate. If I can offer a couple of friendly suggestions to our host, they would be to install at least one screen window in each room to let the air in but keep the flies out, and also perhaps to move the smoke detector away from in front of the bathroom door so the humidity doesn't make it sound unintentionally.
Another great feature of this place are some really comfortable chairs in the living room. After of long day of walking or hiking, it's so relaxing just to sit in them. The decor is pleasant, and the interior has a cozy woodsy feel. There is an traditional iron stove that completes the look, although this is presumably for use in the cold season.
I had the pleasure of staying in a chalet halfway up the the mountain in Lenk with a Swiss friend 35 years ago, and to be able to come back and stay at Tony's very nice place was wonderful.
I strongly recommend this place and want to thank the host.
