Welcome to our beautiful and eclectic do it yourself home in the awesome Bywater Art District! I offer you rustic elegance located within walking distance to Vaughn's, Baccanal Wine Bar, BJ's, The Joint, Pizza Delicious, Booty's, Jack Dempsey's and Crescent Park. Laundry facilities on location. No non-paying guests permitted.
The room you would be renting is a large bedroom with a Queen Size Four Poster bed with a Sealy Pillow top matress. There is no door to the bedroom due to how the home is built This is the interior bedroom in the middle of an original shotgun style home. However, there are privacy curtains to close and no one can see into the room. Be aware that you may be sharing space with others.
Our location is in the Bywater Arts District, currently one of the most up and coming areas in the New Orleans.
Our house is off the "beaten path" but we love our little close knit community and all its benefits. It remains true to New Orleans authenticity.
The house itself is a two bedroom shotgun style home, circa the 1920's made of stone. Even after the damage of Katrina it has maintained it's cozy charm with ornate fireplaces, plank hardwood flooring, above door transit windows and storm shutters.
There is one shared bathroom and a big, well equipped kitchen. The house is rustic but elegant, decorated in eclectic New Orleans style, blending both new and old, with lots of repurposed handmade furniture made of recycled wood found throughout New Orleans.
We have a full kitchen with all the amenities including Margaritaville Blender, Toaster Oven, Microwave and Keurig Coffee Machine. We provide our guests with water, various wines and coffees during their stay with us
Our shower is equipped with a five setting shower head and room for all your toiletries. We provide fresh towels for you everyday in the bathroom.
Guests also have access to a 36 inch portable/lockable closet for clothing storage in the guest's bedroom. Guests will need to bring their own lock and key.
The house is cleaned on a daily basis as we are very big on cleanliness. We clean every morning and your shower, sink and commode is always sanitized daily.
Guests have cable in-room but will also have access to the living room area with a 40 inch LED TV with HBO, Showtime and Stars.
We frequently have other guests in the home so it is shared space. If you are a light sleeper be prepared because sometimes on the weekends it is noisy with others coming in and out.
We do not permit anyone who is not a paid guest on the premise. If you invite another guest you must pay for their stay as well. This is fastly becoming an issue due to New Orleans hook-ups.
The rental includes a large bedroom with a shared bath, a TV/DVD player in the room with basic cable. We provide an I-Home for guests as well.
We provide guests Wi-Fi and free local calling.
You will also have access to use of the kitchen area and/or grill and the community refrigerator.
There is an iron and ironing board provided for you along with a portable closet for hanging and storing your clothes.
We provide all linens, towels, comforters and pillows in your rental.
Guests will have access to Washer and Dryer at $1.00 per load. Guests will need to furnish their own detergent/fabric softener and dryer sheets.
Interaction with Guests
Guests can choose the level of interaction with the host. I work two other jobs so I am in and out and you will have private time to yourself during most of the daytime hours.
I do have other guests in the home most of the time, wheter on the couch or outside tent camping, so this is shared space.
You are welcome at any time to go out on the town with me or have dinner and drinks and be a part of the "local" Bywater scene.
I am withing walking distance to the "Barmuda Triangle" so you don't really have to walk far to find food or drink. A car here is not necessarily needed to have fun and get around.
You may come and go as you please here, there is no curfew, you will have your own key.
If you are traveling with an animal the Levee is a great place to let them hang out and play. It's an open off leash dog park. Pets will have access to run freely and get in the river.
The Bywater is the most interesting and most up and coming neighborhood in the city. It is a nice peaceful, laid back community of artists and musicians. It's a lot like Cheers, everybody knows your name.
However, the Bywater is an up and coming area and in true New Orleans style has some grittiness and can be intimidating to some, however, it's a safe area with interesting people. We strongly encourage you to look over appearance and actually immerse yourself in the culture. If you don't have an open mind and aren't willing to just enjoy yourself, this probably isn't for you. With that being said we have hosted movie producers, actors and people from all over the world who love it here.
The Piety Street Market is held every other Saturday/Sunday and is a must if you have time. You would be within walking distance to various Bywater bars and eateries, however, far enough away to avoid being kept up all night with the noise of the Square. Its an easy bike ride to The French Quarter.
If you come at the right times you might get lucky enough to watch celebs at work as a great deal of filming is happening in the Bywater Area. There are also various festivals during most weeks you can enjoy.
If you are coming to the Bywater for a big city atmosphere, this is true New Orleans, so it's not here. This is a close knit community of locals and small businesses. This is for the laid back. This neighborhood isn't your typical party all night neighborhood it's more laid back and quiet residential neighborhood.
There are several art galleries in our neighborhood and every second Saturday is the St. Claude Art Walk.
There is also 24 hour access to a grocery store/ATM in the neighborhood within five blocks.
We have our own neighborhood library and access to several nice parks/dog friendly areas.
There is a laundrymat across the bridge within walking distance. There is an Anytime Fitness also within easy walking distance. Wal-Mart is approximately five miles. There is a Churchs Chicken across the street. McDonald's is within biking distance.
Public Transit is available one block from the house. Buses number 5 and 88 will take you to the French Quarter. The bus is $3.00 for an all day pass.
I have maps available for you if you need one.
Walking is the quickest, least expensive way to get around the city, but biking is strongly recommended due to limited and expensive parking in the city, not to mention it's the best way to really see the town and get a feel of the neighborhoods.
The typical cost of a cab from the Louis Armstrong Airport to the house is around $30-40. My suggestion is to use UBER if we are not available to pick you up or drop you off which we frequently do for our guests. This is if it falls during times we aren't working.
If you are driving we have free off street parking in front of our home or on the side of the house.
Parking is safe but it's never smart to leave valuables in the car no matter where you are. We suggest you bring those things inside.
Other Things to Note
You are welcome to come enjoy it with me in my home and learn about New Orleans the old fashion way, by exploring it. I always look forward to meeting new people and experiencing new and exciting things!
I do suggest taking a Cemetary Tour, Ghost Tour and a Tour of the Swamps during your stay. There is also the Abandoned Six Flags Jazzland Park and the True Detective tours in nearby Chalmette. This includes Fort McComb and Bayou Savage/Irish Channel areas.
I can accommodate reasonable requests such as wine or beer you might like.
Please DO NOT bring people into our home without our permission or you will be ask to leave by the host.
Make sure you make me aware of things you may need ahead of time and we will try our best to make it happen.
I provide all clean linens for you when you arrive. If you run out of anything there is a Dollar General directly across the street for your convenience or you can ask we may have extra. I do not provide toiletries for Guests. I also do not provide food but you may always bring your own.
I don't have a curfew here, you may come and go as you please. You will have a key to access the house at all times.
I want you to have fun and enjoy your stay here with us.
I can provide you with maps of the city and point you to Groupon for the best deals for tours, etc. I can answer any questions you may have at anytime you need, don't hesitate to ask!
Omg the softest bed I ever slept on! Alex was nice and made me feel at home! Right in the Bywater blocks away from Bar Redux JJ's and the Joint! And just cross the street you can pick up the 88 bus that takes you past French Quarter and Downtown!!
What a great time. Really nice people. Spotlessly clean, very accommodating and helpful. I met some great girls that were staying in the house too and we just had a blast. The house isn't super close to center of town but it's in a great up-and-coming area that is more local and interesting than the same-old French Quarter. If you're looking for something different it's the place to be. But it's totally French-Quarter accessible as well.
We stayed 2 nights at Taras place. It was very noisy. We were in the middle room and other people kept passing by our room. In terms of privacy, its not ideal. It was very unpleasant especially at 5 am. Another guest slept in the sofa in the living room. Moreover the hoUse is very far from dowtown, about 1hour. We saw the good comments but were disappointed by our stay. Tara is a nice person but we felt overcrowded with over guests in her flat.
I am so happy I booked my airbnb with Tara in her beautiful little cozy home in the Baywater! The home was so clean and the room I was staying in was all ready for me when I had arrived. Tara is such a nice and welcoming person and thoughtful! She has coffee for her guests and muffins and you can feel free to use her dishes and silver wear. Tara, the others staying in her home and myself all went out to eat dinner together on Magazine St. and Tara drove. She is so generous and accommodating! The house is about a 25 minute walk from the French Quarter, but the bus stop (# 88) is literally up the street from her place and it takes you directly to the Quarter. I highly recommend staying here. The place is cute and clean, the location is nice, and Tara is great! We are now friends in fb ;)
Room was as described. The place was very clean and we barely saw Tara due to her work and our non work schedules but she was very kind and friendly when we did see each other. Wasn't prepared for another airbnb traveler on the living room couch but it worked out fine and we actually ended up hanging out with her. Just a bus ride into town, download the transit app the buses were pretty infrequent and that app helped you not to waste time at the bus stop. Oh and don't buy any Girl Scout cookies from the door to door cookie sales girl, our cookies never got delivered. Otherwise, a perfect trip!

I love doing Airbnb, it's been an amazing journey and I love the people I get to meet. I would love to welcome you to New Orleans and have you join me in my home. I am a very laid back hands off person and I feel this allows other people to relax and enjoy themselves more while they're here. However, don't hesitate to ask for help as I are becoming very knowledgeable about the city.
