The Space

My house is a sweet, cheerful cape with a front porch and a full kitchen in the village of Wilder, Vermont.

This is a great location for exploring Vermont and New Hampshire. It can be your home base for visiting Dartmouth College (parents, prospective students, visiting scholars), the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (visiting medical professionals or job candidates), or simply relaxing for the weekend in a gorgeous, yet accessible, part of Vermont. The house is on the local bus route (Advanced Transit, green line). Both Amtrak and Greyhound stop in nearby White River Junction. And the Dartmouth Coach (bus) offers service from Boston and New York to nearby Hanover and Lebanon, NH. The house is about five miles south, and across the Connecticut River, from Hanover, NH/Dartmouth College. It is about eight miles from the hospital.

There is a park within walking distance with a swimming hole and picnic tables, a bike path across the street, and we are a couple of miles down the road from King Arthur Flour, the Norwich Farmer's Market (summer), the Killdeer Farm farmstand (summer), and the Montshire Science Museum. There are many restaurants in nearby Hanover and Norwich. (I'm happy to offer some recommendations.) And we are a hop, skip, and jump from the Appalachian Trail, as well as many other recreational trails and activities.

The room itself is very simple (read: spare) with a full bed that probably better accommodates one person than two. The kitchen is well-equipped and there is one bathroom that I share with guests. The house has lots of books, and a piano and two guitars for the musically inclined. Guests are welcome to help themselves to any food in the pantry or the fridge and, during the growing season, from the garden. The house is small and simple, but cozy and comfortable.

I love being an AirBnB host (and, when I travel, guest). My goal is for you to have a relaxing, comfortable, and positive experience. Please let me know if you have any special requests for your visit.

Finally, an important note about transportation if you don't have a car: Advanced Transit is an excellent (and free) bus service with routes throughout the Upper Valley; however, their schedule is limited and the buses stop running early in the evening. You'll want to check their website to be sure the schedule jibes with your own needs. There are also several taxi services (I can give you a list), but I've heard from guests that they can be unreliable and/or unavailable; you should plan to call ahead to arrange a pick up in advance of when you'll actually need it to be sure they're running. ("Taxi" has a different connotation out here in the country than it does in the city...) When I'm available, I often give guests rides to Hanover or White River Junction; this is also something we should arrange in advance of your visit, to be sure that our schedules jibe. (They usually do.)

Guest Access

Guests have access to the entire house, except for my bedroom.

Interaction with Guests

I enjoy meeting guests, but I also understand that you might be looking for a place to chill out and relax. I often share a cup of tea with guests, answer any questions, and then pretty much let you do your thing.

  • Brianne wasn't home when I visited, but she left instructions for us, and we had a very comfortable stay. Since there were two of us, she very thoughtfully had two rooms set up for us, although we fit comfortably enough in one. The house is very close to Dartmouth so it was very convenient.

  • It turned out that Brianne was a colleague of an old neighbour, who recommended her highly, which was well deserved. She was very welcoming, making me feel like a roommate, very relaxed about the house and an engaging person to hang out with whenever we were there together. But I had the house to myself much of the time. It is simple, clean, comfortable. It is in a small Vermont village so people go to bed early and are therefore active early; you realize quickly that you may as well get into that rhythm; though I barely heard Brianne herself in the house in the morning. Her cat, Buster, is outside most of the time and - since the house has no carpets - I didn't have any of the allergic reaction that I sometimes get from cats. A fun stay and looking forward to going back some time

  • I did not get to meet Brianne as she was away for the weekend, but she was easy to communicate with and helpful. I stayed at her house for a night and it was a great stay. Her house is cute and it was what I had hoped for.

  • My stay at Brianne's was really pleasant. She was not around during the most of time but her instructions were more than enough to find everything in the area. The ride from her place to Dartmouth takes less than 10 minutes which was really nice since I had to come back and forth sometimes during these days. I would definetely reccomend her and would, for certain, stay there again.

  • This was my second stay with Brianne at her lovely home - we became friends after my first stay last summer. When I needed to return to Dartmouth for research, I knew I wanted to stay again on Chestnut St.! Buster the cat is, as ever, a charming and hilarious pal, and Brianne's knowledge of the area is incredibly helpful to the out-of-towner. I really enjoyed my stay there again and would recommend it to any VT/NH traveller. The weather was a little extreme during this visit, but it just made the whole experience more fun! The location is great for catching the Advance Transit buses and the proximity to King Arthur Flour is not to be sniffed at! Once again, a thoroughly enjoyable, friendly and memorable stay. Thanks Brianne! And Buster!

  • Brianne was a phenomenal host, and I couldn't have imagined a better Airbnb experience (this was my first time). She went above and beyond, picking me up from the airport and driving me into Hanover the following day. She also made her house completely available, including tea, coffee, food, you name it. I also enjoyed swapping travel stories with her- very interesting person!

I'd highly recommend Brianne's home to anyone traveling through.

  • It was a dark, cold night and we were tired of being on the road. As a last minute idea, we perused the airbnb listings in the vicinity. Brianne's house was our first choice, and (amazingly!) she got back to us within the hour. She gave clear instructions and was a gracious host.
Things we love about the apartment:
It was completely silent at night. She has a nice cat. The house is full of books-everything from wilderness guides to classics. She has a dart board. There were handmade quilts. The list goes on....

  • Brianne has a lovely home - it's the perfect starting point for your adventures around central Vermont. While we didn't meet in person, I felt very welcome in Brianne's home. She was a great communicator before my arrival, worked out a way for me to get a key to the house when she wasn't home and left handwritten note for my arrival. I'll come stay again next time I'm in town!

  • Brianne was a helpful, gracious and generous host. Her home is clean, understated and charming. It is located in a quiet VT town just a short distance away from Hanover, NH and the Dartmouth campus. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay with her.

  • Brianne was beyond helpful with my first visit to Hartford, VT. She made sure I knew how to get around to where I was going. Showed me transportation options and even offered me a ride. Her house is quaint and comfortable. Will stay again in the future.

I used to travel a lot in my twenties and was welcomed into many homes over the years, which meant a lot to me. Now, I'm settled down on a tiny patch of land & work at a publishing company down the road. This is a quiet corner of the world, so I like to meet people from other places and put my house to good use as a stop in their travels.
