Where you’ll be

Letcher County, Kentucky, United States

The neighborhood is quiet with an occasional coal train rumbling down the tracks across the highway near Blackey, Kentucky. The town of Isom is about seven miles away and has banks, restaurants, a pharmacy, medical clinic, full service IGA grocery, gas stations and other shops nearby.

Hi, I’m Amy, This home has been in my family since the early 20th century. It was one of several coal camp houses that were a part of my grandfather, Curt Asher’s coal company. At one time several houses were part of the coal camp where miners who worked in the Asher Mines lived. Only three of the original homes remain which includes Bonnie’s Bungalow, named after my mother. I lived in this bungalow until I recently remarried in May. I am a nurse practitioner, working with geriatric patients. I am also an animal lover and rescuer of animals, doing my part to get them into loving homes. My husband is a commercial photographer and recognized as one of the top Appalachian documentary photographers in the country. He also runs the oral history project, Humans of Central Appalachia . His work serves as the major décor in Bonnie’s Bungalow which guests can purchase. I hope you enjoy your visit to Eastern Kentucky and your time at Bonnie’s Bungalow! Please feel right at home!
