large group luxury in rural idyll

House - Entire home/apt · Regent St, Wickmere, NR11 7ND, United Kingdom

Located in stunningly beautiful countryside, Corner Barn is a spacious, luxury conversion of an 1830s Norfolk barn, with log stove, exposed beams, and vaulted ceilings. It accommodates up to 9 people.

The Space

Corner Barn sleeps up to 9 people. If you have a bigger group think about taking all three barns sleeping up to 17 people. Corner has 2 double rooms, 1 double sofa bed on private gallery, 1 triple bedded room. Bed rooms all with en-suite shower rooms. Large kitchen dining room, large sitting room with vaulted ceiling and mezzanine gallery. Amenities include under floor heating, wood burning stove, satellite TV, wi-fi broadband internet access. The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge and freezer, oven, hob, microwave and dishwasher. There will be a welcome basket of groceries on your arrival. Outside there is a table and chairs in the beautiful courtyard garden with barbeque facilities available. There is plenty of off-road parking.
Church Farm Barns is in the tiny hamlet of Wickmere lost in remote and tranquil north Norfolk countryside. We welcome dogs. The area has walks out across the fields to stately homes such as Wolterton and Mannington the homes of the Walpole family and the National Trust properties of Blickling and Felbrigg. We are just seven miles from the fabulous North Norfolk coast and a similar distance from the Broads National Park. Twenty miles to the south is the medieval cathedral city of Norwich with vibrant arts and entertainment scene as well as being one of the top shopping centres in the country. The nearby market towns of Holt, Aylsham and North Walsham provide a shopping experience out of the 1950s and 60s.

Guest Access

The cottage is fully self contained apart from laundry facilities which are shared with the other cottages and are located in the open barn across the courtyard. Guests have their own area of the courtyard garden.

Interaction with Guests

Gill and I are next door if you need us for anything. We are happy to advise on where to eat, where to go and what to do but otherwise we stay out of your way.

The Neighborhood

Absolute peace and quiet! The countryside is amazingly beautiful with fabulous walks. You are very welcome to bring your dog. Go out at night and you will see the Milky Way like you have never seen it before! Thousands of stars start to appear that you have never seen before if you live in an urban area. We have no street lights and on a moonless night it is pitch black.

Getting around

We are 20 miles from Norwich which is 2 hours by train from London Liverpool Street. From Norwich station you can take the branch line up to Gunton (about 4 miles away if you are walking or biking) or go all the way to Cromer and get a taxi (about 6 miles). There is an irregular bus service from Aldborough about a mile and a half away.

Other Things to Note

Prices are fully inclusive of bed linen, towels, heating, logs, wireless internet and our welcome basket of locally sourced groceries, including Dom's freshly baked bread - absolutely no additional charges.

  • We had such a fantastic week in Wickmere I would highly recommend a stay here. Dom and Gill have thought of everything, and they are incredibly warm and friendly folk. We had loads of kids in our party and they were all very happy which made for a relaxing holiday.

  • Set in the rural village of Wickmere, North Norfolk, the superb "Corner Barn", where we stayed, at Church Farm Barns was beautifully prepared for our arrival. The open plan spaces were well suited to our family get together for the celebration of our 40th Wedding Anniversary, and Gill and Dominic gave us all such a warm welcome. A nice touch, which was much appreciated, was the thoughtful provision of a "Welcome Basket" of yummy homemade bread, marmalade, tea, milk etc. to get us started with provisions. We had a need to call upon Gill and Dominic with a few questions about the area during our stay, and they were both helpful and charming with their responses. We had our two grandchildren in our party who, as we all did, both greatly appreciated the wonderful property and the surroundings, and we were reluctant to leave when it was time to go home. We are all hoping that we can repeat our visit to Church Farm Barns in the future, and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Well done Gill and Dominic, Church Farm Barns is a credit to the thoughtful, well presented and varied accommodation that you offer your guests! You deserve the patronage that you receive which, we have noted in the Visitor's Book, has also been repeated by some of your guests. That speaks volumes for anybody looking for a quiet spot to recharge the soul!

  • Dominic and Gil cottage is absolutely one of the nicest I've never been. Clean, warm, cozy, spacious, etc...We had really great time and I'll surely go back there in Norfolk..

  • Corner Barn was lovely and even in better in real life than on the website. I was worried it might not be completely clean as dogs are allowed to stay but it was immaculate and fresh smelling! Corner Barn is light and airy but cosy and comfortable. Kitchen is really well stocked with good utensils and pots and pans- fridge could be bigger but there is another communal one to share in the outside barn.
Wickmere is a great location to explore the beaches on the north coast and also the broads.
It's in a very rural setting and you hardly see any traffic, it's very very peaceful and relaxing.
We'd definitley stay again and would recommend Corner Barn to friends.

  • Dom & Gill, we so enjoyed our stay in Corner Barn. Eight friends, and one eccentric dog, loved the Barn, and the surrounding area. We had a seaside day in Wells and Blakeney and Cromer, and a Norwich and Broads day, we relaxed and talked and talked and TALKED around the garden table, then round the kitchen table, then some more in your spacious and comfortable living room, and slept and slept in your comfortable and clean beds. It was only a 'long' weekend, but when we got home it felt as rested as though we'd been away for ages! Many thanks, George

  • We all loved this place the best out of the 5 places we stayed while overseas. It was spotlessly clean, gave our family of 5 room to spread out in and was spectacularly appointed with everything you could ever need. Our hosts were so welcoming, from the gorgeous welcome basket to the loan of a bottle of wine on our first night to sooth frazzled travel souls. I would thoroughly recommend this place to everyone, it was absolutely beautiful. I am sure we will be back.

    Response from Dominic:

Thanks Caroline. We'd love to see you here again.

  • Wonderful comfortable warm place out of the awful Norfolk weather but we are used to Norfolk on March! Very spacious, welcome basket a nice touch and your home made bread / eggs etc were great thanks. Can thoroughly recommend.

As well as running the barns I work at Respect4us CIC an alternative education provider in Norwich. (see (website hidden))
I have been a school teacher for 35 years working all over the place and I love travelling. I lived in Hong Kong for three years and have travelled extensively in Asia. In the UK I have lived and worked in London, Devon and for the last 20 years in Norwich. Buying a collapsing barn complex was a project Gill and I took on when the youngest of our children left home (we have two daughters who work in London and a son in the United States). We continued to work in Norwich while restoring and converting the barns. The work was finished in 2008 and we have been letting three self catering units to guests ever since. In all we can sleep up to 17 people and all three units are frequently taken for family parties or gatherings of friends. Corner Barn, the largest unit, sleeping up to 9, can easily accommodate 17 for sit down meals. At peak times we are fully booked but there is always availability through the winter and prices are usually negotiable. To let for just a night is not worth our while because of the cleaning and washing - we provide towels as well as bed linen. We are popular with people from London who come for weekends out of season. If you want total peace, quiet and relaxation this is the place to come.
