The Space

My home is an old house in an old neighborhood a ten minute walk to historic downtown Charlottesville, Va. or bikeride to UVa. It's full of music and interesting things to look at. There have been lots of musicians, and children growing up here; it's held many amazing shared meals and very sweet times.
My rehearsal space and massage studio are also here- book a wonderful massage with me when you come!
Currently I'm loving the luxury of living alone but also enjoy hosting company (I just had the true joy of working with two musicians from Mexico who stayed with me for a month).
There's onstreet parking, high speed internet, a quiet backyard (with a great El Camino to sleep in under an amazing tree), a front porch to smoke on, a fireplace, and a hot tub.
There is only one bathroom, and the AC is pretty mild in the dog days, but it's a very cool house almost all the time.
Charlottesville's a great town; the University of Virginia is here, but also local Roller Derby and Ladies Arm Wrestling teams-

  • Both Catherine and her incredibly fun and beautiful home are such special gems that we felt completely blessed to experience during our travels. This was by far a favorite Airbnb experience for us and we have nothing but excellent reviews for Catherine. Her home is an unforgettable sanctuary of eclectic art, plants, antiques, music, books, and musical instruments. We slept like babies and woke well rested to peaceful wind chimes and birds chirping. Catherine herself is such a gem, very warm and gracious and quite musically talented - she even invited us to come see her play music at the Blue Moon Diner, which was a treat for us to see. She gave us all the privacy we wanted but was there if we needed anything at all and she was wonderful to sit and visit with. Thank you so much Catherine! To everyone considering staying here, do yourself a favor and treat yourself to this unforgettable sanctuary. She even has a hot tub!

  • The house is within an easy walk to downtown Charlottesville and a longer walk to UVA, but I was able to walk to UVA without much trouble. The Wifi worked well, though it's hard streaming things- too much bandwith, but for work/checking email and (website hidden)- totally fine. The house is charming, comfortable and I felt like I was able to relax and work in the back patio and chilled out one evening in the living room. The massage is COMPLETELY worth booking if you can manage- she is a gifted masseuse and generally a healing pleasant person. The bathtub is an old claw foot tub with a shower. For people with bad knees or balance issues, probably not a great idea to stay here. I did not use the kitchen and ate all of my meals in downtown- the Tea Bazaar place is a great place to sit, read, get on Wifi.

Of course, it is not a hotel and you're staying in her home, so nothing fancy, but everything works fine, the BED is really comfortable, the house is really a great place to hang out. For $55/night, it is excellent value for its proximity to downtown.

  • Wonderful host and really fabulous, artistic, jazzy home. I provided the stay as a gift for a friend who was visiting relatives in Charlottesville and I got to drop her off and see Catherine's home. I was "wowed!" by her style and special visual and practical touches in every single room. I personally love this type of multi layered creativity in a home space, with all kinds of art - paintings, photos, drawings, posters, flower arrangements, funky fun and comfortable furniture, lots of books, magazines and music c.d.s, use of natural objects like bark and driftwood for book shelves... I wanted to stay for days myself just reading, listening to good tunes and enjoying the tastefully displayed objects and colors of walls and window coverings. Beyond this, Catherine was very thoughtful to my young friend, who was in need of this type of home away from home, artistic oasis in a convenient location as well.

  • A nice stay at Catherine's, as always — it's my regular place to crash when I'm in Charlottesville. Cozy and comfortable.

  • My time at Catherine's was a joy. She's a perfect host: respectful of the schedule of her guest; respectful of space; attentive when called upon; lively and lovely and conversational when engaged. She gave me pointers for my stay and even invited me to an event that I'd never have known about otherwise. If ever I return, I'll be sure to be in contact. Very highly recommended.

  • I would like to start this review to Catherine by apologizing for the delay at writing this review. First the Thanksgiving Holiday rolled around, and shortly after my mom was hospitalized in Austin, Tx. So things have just been crazy!
Now to the good stuff. I had met Catherine on a previous trip to Charlottesville, Va., and after a 3 to 4 hour drive and finding out she was a masseuse, I sure could use that service having 4 herniated discs in my lower back and neck. I was so excited when she told me that she could squeeze me into her schedule. And let me tell you ladies and gentlemen, this is so worth every penny! She saved me from another miserable night of tossing and turning, in fact for one of the first time in months, I slept like a baby that night. So if you have time, and want to spoil yourself a bit or have an injury that is preventing you from feeling at the top of your game, let her put her wonderful healing hands on you....
The next trip that I made into Charlottesville was close to a month after we first met. I booked her room, and arrived in the early evening. Catherine's home is so cool, it is a warm and friendly place. from the moment that I arrived at Catherine,s place on both occasions, there was just an instant feeling of warmth and comfort, like being at home.
Personally Catherine is such a spectacular woman. She is a talented artist, and I had the extreme pleasure of going and seeing her play a gig. It was awesome!
I adore Catherine, and I would love to and most likely will be booking with her again soon, if she will have me.....
Thanks for being such an amazing hostess and I think the world of you!

  • Catherine has created a delightfully unique cozy home bursting with personality and centrally located in Charlottesville. Musicians would especially feel welcome there.

  • Fabulous funk and spirit - both Catherine and the house. A wonderful and inspiring sanctuary. I will stay here when I need a place in C'ville.

Kripalu School of Massage
licenced massage therapist, musician, waitress/bartender
I'm a musician, massage therapist, waitress and bartender living in Charlottesville, Va. My most recent project has been being part of creating and playing music for an very amazing internatinoal exchange dance/art installation performance piece (much of our company is from Mexico) called The Unearthing (check it out on the web). We did free community workshops around boundaries, exchange, cultural identity, enviornmental sustainability (focusing on mountaintop removal); dance classes, and workshops with kids (I facilitated bucket drums). I love and have done this kind of work before; mostly sessions on improvisation with music and movement, working with Canadian teenagers to dancers in Mexico... I also look forward to hosting people through airbnb, which I just discovered. I'm a licenced (and excellent) massage therapist- (website coming). Come to Charlottesville and get a massage while you stay, or recieve one when I stay with you.
