My home is an old house in an old neighborhood a ten minute walk to historic downtown Charlottesville, Va. or bikeride to UVa. It's full of music and interesting things to look at. There have been lots of musicians, and children growing up here; it's held many amazing shared meals and very sweet times.
My rehearsal space and massage studio are also here- book a wonderful massage with me when you come!
Currently I'm loving the luxury of living alone but also enjoy hosting company (I just had the true joy of working with two musicians from Mexico who stayed with me for a month).
There's onstreet parking, high speed internet, a quiet backyard (with a great El Camino to sleep in under an amazing tree), a front porch to smoke on, a fireplace, and a hot tub.
There is only one bathroom, and the AC is pretty mild in the dog days, but it's a very cool house almost all the time.
Charlottesville's a great town; the University of Virginia is here, but also local Roller Derby and Ladies Arm Wrestling teams-
Cathy was a fantastic host. Her house was beautiful indeed, full of interesting books, musical instruments and art. I was alone in town so she even showed me around town and took me to a music show. I highly recommend staying with her!
Catherine made us feel right at home. She gave us several suggestions for restaurants, and shared lots of advice about the area. The house is so interesting, there are so many little corners and decorations to explore. We had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend a stay at this beautiful, unusual home!
Awesome house and more awesome host!
We arrived at Catherine's home on New Year's day. The first thing we noticed was music coming from inside the house. The light in the house is amazing and her home is filled with all sorts of beautiful artwork and color. Catherine just gives off good vibes. She seems like a truly lively, thoughtful and caring person.
Catherine gave us some good advice about a few short, local hikes in the area and we were able to get up in the mountains that day. When we got back from the hike she was practicing her violin/ cello for a show that she was playing in with some local bands. We asked her to please continue and it was a treat to be lulled into a nap with some soft, live music.
The house is a sweet little place in a quiet neighborhood about a 5 minute drive or 10-15 minute walk from Charlottesville's downtown so we were able to explore the local eateries. She suggested the Blue Moon Café to us and it was terrific.
Catherine also has good connections in the local music scene and if you're into music you should definitely ask her about where the good shows are. We were actually already planning to go to a show at the Main Street Annex and it just so happened that this was the venue where Catherine was playing. If you get a chance to see Sally Rose or Shag Wuf while you're in town, you're in for a real treat.
Overall, this was a great experience. We want to go back! It seems like a great place to return to anytime we feel like heading up to the mountains.
Catherine has a charming eclectic historic home in a nice quiet residential neighborhood. She made us feel welcome right away. I definitely recommend booking a massage as well; Catherine is a gifted massage therapist, and my husband and I received the best massages we've had anywhere!
Oh, Catherine and her home were both so lovely. When I pulled up, I could identify her home by the sound of her fiddle. Her home is so cozy, and Catherine is so welcoming. I only we we had had more time together.
Catherine was the best!!! We arrived pretty late at night and as we approached, I emailed her asking about a place to eat in Charlottesville and she gave us a GREAT recommendation. She couldn't have been more warm and welcoming. Her home and outdoor spaces were super fun, comfortable and clean. She made us excellent coffee in the morning and offered breakfast too :) Though we crossed paths for less than 24 hours, I feel like she's an old friend. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Cville!
I'm a musician, massage therapist, waitress and bartender living in Charlottesville, Va.
My most recent project has been being part of creating and playing music for an very amazing internatinoal exchange dance/art installation performance piece (much of our company is from Mexico) called The Unearthing (check it out on the web). We did free community workshops around boundaries, exchange, cultural identity, enviornmental sustainability (focusing on mountaintop removal); dance classes, and workshops with kids (I facilitated bucket drums).
I love and have done this kind of work before; mostly sessions on improvisation with music and movement, working with Canadian teenagers to dancers in Mexico...
I also look forward to hosting people through airbnb, which I just discovered.
I'm a licenced (and excellent) massage therapist- (website coming). Come to Charlottesville and get a massage while you stay, or recieve one when I stay with you.
