This includes recycling, maintaining reasonable noise levels and respecting the natural environment.
The house is exactly like shown in the photos- basic and serene. The rooms do not have AC and the bathrooms are small but you really have all you absolutely need the rest can be considered excess (depends on the traveler). It's not the place to sleep-in as it gets too hot and bright in the morning (7 a.m.) but it is surrounded by beautiful flowers and plants and has a spacious porch for relaxing and sipping some coffee. There were a lot of people visiting while we were there to work on the garden. It didn't bother me but thought you should know.
The location is not too far from the town. A ten minute walk. There is a long dirt road you have to take before reaching the house. Maybe half a mile. I really recommend getting there by Taxi and then ridding a bike through it for the remainder of your stay. Like others mentioned, it gets dark but I used my flashlight on my phone to guide me through.
Ana, Rachel's intern, greeted us when we first arrived. She was very pleasant, helpful and sweet. The house was a very unique experience like the other commentators mentioned. I would recommend the house to friends with a few disclosures as this is not the place for everyone; although, still an awesome experience.
We had a great time staying at Rachel's round house. It was great to be able to retreat from the town to the relaxing jungle. The house is beautiful, the garden is really cool, and each room was large and clean. Rachel and the visiting yoga instructor were very kind, knowledgeable, great conversationalists!
There is a large kitchen, beautiful patio, and each bedroom has its own little porch. Hammocks abound!
We did have a few issues - like the washing machine not working and running out of drinking water, but Rachel tried her best to resolve this during the busy Santa Semana.
I would definitely recommend staying here!
Absolutely amazing. My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights just wishing it could be longer. It was relaxing and laid back. We didn't have any issues, everyone was helpful and welcoming. The morning was the most peaceful, waking up to the sounds of birds, and the wind. It's also in walking distance to the beach and small, but delicious food options. We're glad we got to experience staying at the roundhouse.
First of all, the house is amazing. I went with my mom, sister, and two neces. We had an incredible experience. DIFFERENT from anything we have tried before. The hole experience starts early in the morning with the sound of the monkeys, birds and all the nature. The location is perfect, calm and quiet and only 5-10 minutes walk from Puerto Viejo. Fully equipted in the kitchen. It has simple bedrooms, but thats not a bad thing at all. Perfect for doing yoga, have a peacefull stay and enjoy being in touch with nature.
The house is ecofriendly. You can notice this in the house itself, the house trash system, and everything. You can learn a lot on how to have a more susteinable home.
Rachel, the host, is great! She has everything in the house organized and explained.
NOTE: the house is for a relaxing stay. No noise after 8pm.
What a fantastic experience. My mother and I went to Puerto Viejo for three nights (wished it were so much longer) and had a delightful time in the roundhouse. The kitchen was great to cook in, there were many hammocks to rest in, wild birds and butterflies, and waking up at 3am to howler monkeys.... it was all so delightful.
"J" (sp) was a great host while we were there and we attended one of her yoga sessions on the porch and took her advice on beaches/attractions to visit nearby... all of them great suggestions.
If I head back to Puerto Viejo again, which I hope to... I'll definitely see if there is space to stay here again.
We stayed in Rachel's Eco-friendly roundhouse for about four days. In that time we explored the beaches, food, and saw plenty of wildlife. I loved having so many hammocks to relax in! I felt the location of the roundhouse was perfect, close enough to town , but far enough so that you did not have to be a part of the excitement of the main drag if you did not want to be.
J was wonderful at answering any questions I had and always very helpful. Thanks for the yoga class J!
The house was lovely and I think if I were ever to build a house in Costa Rica I would need to get the name of Rachel's architect: ).
