About this listing
Enjoy a giant one of a kind master suite with magnificent jungle view. Hang out at the private 50 foot pure stone swimming pool or take the short 9 minute walk over to the Yoga Barn for restaurants or Yoga.
This is a master bedroom suite located in downtown Ubud Bali. Super-close walking distance to the dancing events and restaurants in Peliatan at night, a 50 foot pure stone pool to swim in during the day. Walking on marble floors inside or the shaded garden outside you are secluded yet close to the action and charm only Ubud has to offer. Amazing for a single person or couple. Perfect for a family get-together or group retreat. Make your visit for two weeks or a year. If extra rooms are needed the Villa has accommodations for a grand total of eight with two in each bed. The Villa is just about 7023 square feet total.
Many of our guests will do a quick nine minute walk over for classes at the Yoga Barn. Little reflexology shops do a great hour long foot massage nearby or have our professional Bali masseuse come by when ever you want for a great one hour Balinese full body massage in your room or poolside. All the choices are yours.
We have so many amazing stories of folks getting here and extending their stay due to how nice they feel it is. They just don't want to leave! Truly this is our best complement and lets us know we have done things right.
One of the great aspects here is that everything can be done with a reasonable budget in mind. This has allowed many guests to enjoy long four to six month stays. Many of our long-term health conscious guests found going out and finding super-healthy food and making it at home was the ticket. If you don't feel like cooking and don't want to go out there are a great choice of quality delivery options available.
The Villa is really all about choices and options! You just choose as you go. No need to worry about stuff now.
The best part is you have a clean, quiet and safe home to stay at while your on the Island. You can make your visit really any type of visit you want. Some make it an art purchasing trip, some make it a cloths purchasing vacation while others are getting into that special authentic dancing and music only found on the island of Bali. Some guests make a food tour of the Island!
If just spending peaceful quality time by yourself or with loved ones, you'll not find a better location.
Hanging out reading at the pool has also been popular. Really you decide to make your trip as adventurous or relaxing as you want, all without the busy traffic of staying in an expensive crowded hotel. Days and Nights are quiet and peaceful with only the sounds of the birds around. If it does get too quiet, live music is always being played at a small outdoor club in quaint downtown Ubud minutes away!
Transportation is available directly from the Villa any day for daily adventure scenic drives to any location on the Island. Up to five can enjoy the day together in a new fully air-conditioned tour-van at a super price of $50 usd a day! He is always right on time too!
With many thoughtful design elements there are truly no rooms in Ubud like these. We welcome you to make this Island home your home.
Our housekeeper is a wonderful cook making much of the local dishes for our guests. Seven days-a-week from 8am until 4pm we have great local culinary delights. From a simple Balinese Vegetable Omelet with Potatoes on the side for breakfast, to exotic spicy Sumatra food for lunch or dinner, the choices are truly fantastic. The Chicken Curry with Potatoes is some of the best I have had in competition with many of the finer restaurants in downtown Ubud. The list of exciting authentic dishes to try is staggering. The addition of local spices can be dialed in also, making the food perfect for any one palette. We are also really into obtaining much of the local fruit on a daily basis. There are unique ripe Green Oranges, Mini Pineapples and a choice at times of twenty different variations of local Bananas. Purple Mangosteen is a wonderful and super healthy fruit to try here on the Island. The local traditional market across the street typically has a wide selection of these wonderful fruit items for our housekeeper to buy for you every morning.
It does not get any better than this.
A healthy diet here at the Villa is both cost effective and fun. Local Red and White Dragon Fruit, Snake Fruit and Star Fruit are in season and obtainable a good portion of the year. We have also planted many exotic fruit trees on the property.
The dinning process is actually pretty simple for our guests. You make food choices for the day and the ingredients are purchased fresh for you that morning. You pay just the local prices for the food plus a small tip for the chief. The process results in a win-win situation providing exciting ways to experience the local traditional food in high quality with prices even better than even the local low-cost restaurants. Dinning in is super easy and cost effective as well as super healthy. Truly this is one of the greatest additions to the lifestyle at the Villa and providing an educational and unique dinning moment at home if you decide not to go out.
All and all we feel we are offering a very flexible and complete Bali experience, perfect for folks new to the Island or the seasoned return guest. We welcome you to enjoy some of the best Bali Island has to offer. Let us know what your needs are, and we will do our best to accommodate your stay.
The house rules are really simple and reflect the easy going lifestyle here. No smoking inside is the one rule but every room has one or two outside decks.
I had a blast staying here. I highly recommend this villa.
Good location, short walk or moto ride to just about anywhere in Ubud. I recommend renting a moto for your trip.
The house is very clean and the housekeeper Dayou is amazing.
Greg and Sak Ming are incredibly friendly. I really enjoyed having both of them around. They helped me in a number of situations where I had skin reactions, eye infections etc due to weird Bali encounters.
Neighborhood seems nice. I never felt unsafe anywhere in Ubud.
Greg took me around the local markets and helped me find a fake rolex, which was a fun adventure.
They seem completely open to having guests come over.
They have two small dogs. One of them is incredibly friendly. The other has to warm up with you and she barks and growls, but she is harmless. If you grab her, she won't bite and goes completely submissive. By the time I left, she would let me pet her. I love dogs, so this was a plus.
My shower had no hot water. Although to be fair, I never asked for this to be fixed. The water in Bali dries my skin out as is.
The internet is hit or miss. My friend couldn't get internet at all. I could get internet most of the time, but often would have to trip to a local cafe. The internet on the whole island is pretty bad.
Compared to the rest of Ubud, this is expensive. That being said, you pay for what you get and this is definitely nicer than any of the properties my other friends stayed at.
Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and I will stay here the next time I'm in Ubud. Thanks Greg and Sak Ming!
We truly enjoyed having you over. I wish you have brought up the water issue. We talked so much, I'm surprised you did not talk about it. The hot water is fine it is just the working operation of the hot water on the shower faucet. We have a giant 30 gallon electric hot water heater which supplies hot water to everywhere in the house. On the top floor where you were at it's about a 30 second wait, when it's turned on correctly? Still, glad you enjoyed your trip, please visit again when on the Island. Let us know when you come back we can get you a special discount price, so good I can not mention it here.
Greg and Sak Ming
I stayed for one month at Greg & Sak Ming's. They were welcoming, friendly and offered recommendations about activities/restaurants in the area and at the same time respected my privacy as well. The room was spacious and having my own bathroom was convenient. LOVED the pool, beautiful! And great sitting areas throughout the house.
The house is not quite in the "center" of the busy sprawl of the city but that may be a positive thing (depending on what you're looking for). It is in a quieter residential area, but there are still plenty of restaurants/shops within a 10 min walking distance. Greg offers a walking tour of the area for you when you first arrive so you can get familiar. It is a convenient walk to the popular Yoga Barn (which was what I was primarily looking for). It's about a 15 min walk to the Monkey Forrest area. There are also plenty of taxis around in Ubud - very affordable - (or you can ask Daiyu for a lift on her scooter for a quick ride to other parts of town! More on her later!)
Tip for sensitive sleepers, there are sounds of roosters and dogs throughout the night so you may want to use ear plugs. With the earplugs, it wasn't an issue for me. Reading other reviews just about Ubud in general, I prepared for this and brought my own earplugs. Sak Ming also thoughtfully provided a pair upon arrival.
Daiyu, the housekeeper, is an amazing cook and will prepare meals for you if you ask her, take care of your laundry, and give scooter rides which was really beneficial! It is for an extra cost of course, but you can work that out with her and it ended up being very valuable. Even though there was a communication barrier (she doesn't speak much English and I speak no Balinese), things worked out well. She is very sweet and always greeted you with a smile. All in all, the place was a comfortable/pleasant stay and would recommend.
Sak Ming and Greg organized my pick up from the Airport, and all the other transport I needed, anwered many questions, looked after me while I was sick. It is a very spacious house in a quiet part of Ubud and is well situated on the back side of the Yoga Barn. The gardens are really beautiful, there is an adorable housekeeper Dayu who will shop for your, cook and look after your laundry. The house is so big that you can live with the feeling of being on your own in the house. Nice place, thank you!
Great, very helpful hosts. I really have enjoyed my stay.
Nice Villa in a quite neighborhood not far from the center - so I could walk everywhere.
Villa needs some maintenance here and there but Greg and Sak Ming are always helpful and do their best to make it a pleasant stay.
Most important: the villa is very close to the Yogabarn!
We couldn't have asked for better hosts. Greg and Sak Ming were so friendly and went above and beyond what we expected. Greg took us on a tour when we got in and it was invaluable! Ubud can be slightly overwhelming when you first arrive and just having him show us the lay of the land was super helpful. The location was good--away from the hustle and bustle but still within walking distance. If you are adept at a scooter I would definitely recommend renting one! Walking back and forth multiple times a day can get tedious so it'll just depend on your plans. Alternately, the taxis are so cheap there that they are a nice break from walking if you don't want to rent a scooter. Sak Ming will gladly call one for you or you can grab one from the end of the road so we never had any problems with it. Dayu the housekeeper was always super nice and helpful, ready to go out of her way to make sure our experience was amazing. There are roosters that can be heard all hours of the day but it's more of a personal thing on if that bothers you or not. The house and surroundings are beautiful. The room was large and the A/C was cold ;) I'd definitely recommend someone to stay here if they want a nice oasis away from the busyness of Ubud.
A wonderful and friendly experience at this amazing sweet spot hidden away from the touristy sounds and very friendly area of Ubud. The sounds of natute come alive in this place. Great villa with upgraded amenities and a fabulous spa tub and outside pool. I really enjoyed all of 34 days here. I felt safe and the hosts were extremely accomadating and a great value as well. I recommend this place for any artist, single traveler and or family. Very friendly place and easy access to central Ubud.
Glad you enjoyed the Jacuzzi! Glad you loved the sounds of nature coming alive!
Your complements are the sweetest ever and we take them to heart. Please get a hold of us next time your in town, we would love to have you over again.
Greg and Sak Ming
The house is about 15mins walk to the main streets of Ubud. It's in a rather quiet neighbourwood which I truly appreciate. I walked everyday but for some people you might want a rental bike.
The bedroom I took was exactly the same as the photos. I would say the only thing that was missing was probably a working desk and a chair. There are rooster and dog bark during the night so having some earplugs would help.
Sakming and Greg were always friendly and helpful. They showed me the areas the first night even though it was late. Came to pick me up when I got lost. I felt very grateful to have them. Thank you!
Thank you for the suggestions on desk and chair. A coincidence as we did purchase a desk and chair for a room this week. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Keep in touch, we will be happy to get you a $100 off your next month stay when ever you decide to return to Bali.
