Top floor of a hillside house next to Keller's Beach in Point Richmond, California, adjoining an East Bay Regional Park. You have a sunny, airy space with a view of San Francisco Bay, with lots of amenities and hosts who want you to feel at home.

The Space

My husband and I live in this three-bedroom house in Point Richmond. It's on a hill that runs into the beach so the view is fantastic, and you can have the entire top floor, with private bedroom, private bathroom, and a private entrance, all to yourselves!

We are across the street from Keller's Beach, a small little beach on SF Bay. Our view is of San Francisco skyline, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, Angel Island, Mt. Tamalpais, ... The sunset is constantly wicked. We live by Miller-Knox Regional Park that has super nice hiking trails along the bay and in the surrounding hills that we can introduce you to!

Hey our house is full of stairs, so if stairs are hard for you (injured or less mobile), our place may not be for you. Otherwise the stairs are great for continual exercise!

Point Richmond is a cute little town, with restaurants and taverns where you can sit outside (or inside to watch sports on TV).

Our place is a 8-minute drive from Richmond BART (a subway system that will take you to San Francisco in about 30 minutes), a 15-minute drive from Berkeley (where I teach Economics at UC), and a 5-minute walk from downtown Point Richmond, which has a nice selection of restaurants, art shops, and bars.

Oh there is also a hot tub! It's outside on the patio so you can relax while listening to the waves.

We put our cereal and fruit for you to help yourself, and we make coffee and tea in the morning.

A rescued greyhound dog lives here. He's pretty mellow. He likes to run on the beach. He's insanely fast at running.

Guest Access

Guests may use our kitchen to make snacks. If we are out, you may cook dinner. Also make yourself at home in the living room, and on the deck overlooking the Bay where the hot tub is.

Interaction with Guests

We respect your privacy, and also are happy to help you learn about our area and to answer your questions. Usually we are around in the morning when you help yourself to the cereal, fruit and coffee, and often get to know our guests then (yet feel free to take your breakfast upstairs to your area, or down to the living room, or out to the deck, whatever your mood).

The Neighborhood

Point Richmond is a small village and fun to explore with its restaurants, bars, and shops. Also people love to explore nearby Berkeley and Marin area. Not to mention hop on BART and explore San Francisco. Plus we have awesome walks on the beach and by the Bay that can last from 10 minutes to two hours. Every other Sunday, you can join us to practice meditation and hear a lesson by an amazing Tibetan Lama, Anam Thubten Ripoche. People travel from all over to practice with him.
Enjoy nature, the Bay, and San Francisco area!!!

Getting around

Walk 10 mins to catch a bus (12 mins) to Richmond BART, which takes you to Berkeley in 12 mins, and to SF in 35 minutes.

Other Things to Note

We have a greyhound named Belvedere.
We like to recycle and conserve water as much as possible.

Check In
  • I felt right at home staying with Richard and Clair! They are quite interesting and unusually awesome people, and their home is a little paradise on the beach.

  • What to speak to first - the accommodations, or the hosts? Richard is zany, hospitable, fun & one vibrant guy. Claire is the most gracious hostess, sweet & affable. Belvedere, graceful and elegant.
Staying at their home was like having your own cabin on a beautiful cruise ship. Windows open to the beautiful fresh bay air, complete privacy as only the birds could possibly see into the room. Light, airy - (shades - yes, but to ruin that view??, not the option I chose).

  • Five + Stars! Clair & Richard are wonderful hosts! We had a great time! Beautiful home and setting...the lapping water at Keller Cove lulled us to sleep! Would highly recommend a stay!!

  • Claire & Richard welcomed us with excitement and offered wine , beer or any beverage upon our arrival!
Richard gave us a full tour of the home and even offered us apples from their garden!
They printed our both of our names on a piece of paper saying "Austen & Tricia's Parking Spot" outside, which was really cute. They had a whole packet ready for us with maps, suggestions wifi and more.

Their house was full of stairs on each level, so if you are injured or elderly I wouldn't recommend it , otherwise their place is a hidden gem with direct access to a small beach, tons of hiking trails, its peaceful, relaxing and we felt right at home!

I suggest if your going to drive anywhere, drive along the coast from their home over the RIchmond Bridge through Marin onto the Golden Gate Bridge into the City. Its Beautiful !

  • Clair and Richard were very welcoming and made me feel right at home. Everything was clean and ready for me when I arrived. The house is in a BEAUTIFUL location. It was nice to fall asleep to the sound of waves lapping on the beach. I would definitely recommend staying here if you are coming to Point Richmond.

  • Clair and Richard are excellent hosts, great conversationalists and know the bay area well. They have a wonderful home with the perfect location to venture out and explore or stay home and enjoy the beach. Belvedere the greyhound was the perfect host too!

  • The best of our whole trip to the west coast!

Clair and Richard were a treat! They made us feel right at home. We had a great time chatting with them. They are interesting, open minded and friendly. You will love all the stories of Richard :D

The house is so beautiful! From our bedroom (and the whole house) we could see the beach and the San Francisco Bay. We also enjoyed the hot tub and apples right from the tree!

They provided us with plans to San Francisco and hikes around the house.

Definitly one of the main highlights of our 3 weeks trip to the US. We hope to come again soon!

  • We only stayed one night and that was not long enough. We took full advantage of the hiking right outside their door and the views were wonderful. We loved the location, our bedroom , the house, solar heated hot tub , breakfast and visiting with you both. The Thai restaurant they recommended is the best I've ever been to. Thanks and we look forward to staying with you again.

  • We stayed for a weekend at Richard and Professor Brown's and loved our experience. They accommodated our needs and gave us full use of their beautiful house - think sitting in a redwood solar-powered hot tub overlooking the ocean. Incredible hiking in the area and we enjoyed getting to know Richard, a really hospitable and friendly guy who knows a great deal about the area. We will definitely be back and I more than recommend Claire and Richard's place to anyone!

  • Upon arrival, the owner of the house, Richard, gave us a tour and a list of restaurants and things to do around town. Clair and Richard were very sweet and provided coffee and tea in the morning as well as breakfast! He is a man full of knowledge and can give you recommendations for touring the bay area. Point Richmond is a cute little town with a lot of character.
This house was great with an amazing view and a stone’s throw away from the water. We could hear the waves and see the ocean from our room, which was relaxing. We just walked out the back gate and across the road to the beach and took a long walk along the shore, which we greatly enjoyed.

Hi, Clair is an economics professor at UC Berkeley (and clay artist), and Richard is a biochemist who invented a natural cure for UTI. We love to travel and explore new places, and we love to visit our kids and grandson in Brooklyn. We are easy going, and go to bed on early side. Also we jog and rollerblade all over town, or go to museums, theater, and out for a microbrew. Hope to meet you some day! Clair and Richard
