Top floor of a hillside house next to Keller's Beach in Point Richmond, California, adjoining an East Bay Regional Park. You have a sunny, airy space with a view of San Francisco Bay, with lots of amenities and hosts who want you to feel at home.
My husband and I live in this three-bedroom house in Point Richmond. It's on a hill that runs into the beach so the view is fantastic, and you can have the entire top floor, with private bedroom, private bathroom, and a private entrance, all to yourselves!
We are across the street from Keller's Beach, a small little beach on SF Bay. Our view is of San Francisco skyline, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, Angel Island, Mt. Tamalpais, ... The sunset is constantly wicked. We live by Miller-Knox Regional Park that has super nice hiking trails along the bay and in the surrounding hills that we can introduce you to!
Hey our house is full of stairs, so if stairs are hard for you (injured or less mobile), our place may not be for you. Otherwise the stairs are great for continual exercise!
Point Richmond is a cute little town, with restaurants and taverns where you can sit outside (or inside to watch sports on TV).
Our place is a 8-minute drive from Richmond BART (a subway system that will take you to San Francisco in about 30 minutes), a 15-minute drive from Berkeley (where I teach Economics at UC), and a 5-minute walk from downtown Point Richmond, which has a nice selection of restaurants, art shops, and bars.
Oh there is also a hot tub! It's outside on the patio so you can relax while listening to the waves.
We put our cereal and fruit for you to help yourself, and we make coffee and tea in the morning.
A rescued greyhound dog lives here. He's pretty mellow. He likes to run on the beach. He's insanely fast at running.
Guests may use our kitchen to make snacks. If we are out, you may cook dinner. Also make yourself at home in the living room, and on the deck overlooking the Bay where the hot tub is.
Interaction with Guests
We respect your privacy, and also are happy to help you learn about our area and to answer your questions. Usually we are around in the morning when you help yourself to the cereal, fruit and coffee, and often get to know our guests then (yet feel free to take your breakfast upstairs to your area, or down to the living room, or out to the deck, whatever your mood).
Point Richmond is a small village and fun to explore with its restaurants, bars, and shops. Also people love to explore nearby Berkeley and Marin area. Not to mention hop on BART and explore San Francisco. Plus we have awesome walks on the beach and by the Bay that can last from 10 minutes to two hours. Every other Sunday, you can join us to practice meditation and hear a lesson by an amazing Tibetan Lama, Anam Thubten Ripoche. People travel from all over to practice with him.
Enjoy nature, the Bay, and San Francisco area!!!
Walk 10 mins to catch a bus (12 mins) to Richmond BART, which takes you to Berkeley in 12 mins, and to SF in 35 minutes.
Other Things to Note
We have a greyhound named Belvedere.
We like to recycle and conserve water as much as possible.
No smoking; no pets.
Please do let us know your preference for the early morning, ranging from "Do Not Disturb" to Coffee at Six Thirty. It's fine to hang out downstairs preferably in the living room, not in the breakfast nook (next to and within earshot of the Hosts' bedroom). Thanks!
Richard & Clair were such gracious hosts! They really go to great lengths to make their guests feel welcome and at home. Belvedere (their dog) is sweet and mellow.
Richard welcomed me first but his dog, Belvedere came after. He was cheerful and showed me around. It's nice to have someone show you the house and its amenities.
What a unique treat to stay even briefly with Clair and Richard! From the moment I arrived, there was fantastic conversation, good wine and music, and simply not enough time to appreciate all the good things in life. The beach area is amazing, and I thoroughly enjoyed both a swim at the Richmond Plunge (just through the tunnel) and a dip afterwards in their solar-heated hot tub. Sadly, did not have time to enjoy the meditation hut this time, but I did enjoy falling asleep to the sound of the waves on the beach. These two exceptional beings have built a wonderful home together, and I'm grateful to have shared their space even for a short time. Look forward to my next visit!
I was made to feel extremely welcome in this relatively unknown spot in the Bay Area (i.e. Point Richmond). The room and study was excellently appointed and I was able to come and go at will and under no obligation. Richard and Clair are excellent hosts and I would recommend staying at their home.
Staying with Richard & Clair was an absolute dream! The second my boyfriend and I walked in, Richard picked us some apples off of his tree and then waltzed us off to the beach to watch the sunset. He and Clair were so sweet and accommodating, both full with amazing suggestions on how to spend our time in the Bay area. We awoke the next morning to a full and beautiful breakfast, and spent some time talking with our hosts before Richard brought us to his own personal archery range and taught us how to use a bow! The house is amazing, plus the room & bed were so cozy we slept in both days we were there. As an added plus, the morning we were leaving Richard & Clair were kind enough to let us use their kayak for a quick morning row to the point. Can't say enough about this awesome experience!
This honestly felt like a secret little treasure. We were initially planning on staying up near Sonora for the night, but at the last minute decided to head towards San Francisco. This area, Point Richmond, is so cool. There are a couple of nice little restaurants in the town centre, but the real charm is in the INSANE views and beauty of the neighbourhood where Richard and Claire live. Their house itself is gorgeous and cozy and filled with natural light. The airbnb area is the top floor and feels private, despite being part of their home. There was a lovely breeze blowing off the water, smelled so fresh. We also slept like babies because we could hear the waves lapping against the beach (which was also beautiful and about a 60 second walk from their house).
The hosts themselves couldn't have been any lovelier. So warm and welcoming. There was delicious coffee and cereal in the morning, we even got into a conversation about beer that led to Richard giving us a lesson in our body chemistry. It was honestly fantastic. I'd happily stay here again and I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a gorgeous spot with a truly personal touch.
Hosts went out of their way to get us settled in Richmond Point overlooking San Francisco, on a secluded road near a park. I'd recommend this location to others seeking a peaceful "across the bay" stay.

Hi, Clair is an economics professor at UC Berkeley (and clay artist), and Richard is a biochemist who invented a natural cure for UTI.
We love to travel and explore new places,
and we love to visit our kids and grandson in Brooklyn.
We are easy going, and go to bed on early side.
Also we jog and rollerblade all over town,
or go to museums, theater, and out for a microbrew.
Hope to meet you some day!
Clair and Richard
