  • Carla
  • Povoacao

The first village of the island. You can visit the most ancient church in S. Miguel and see some monuments referring to the arrival of the portuguese sailors.
    Povoação Ilha de São Miguel
  • Ns. dos Remedios

I suggest Caminho do Pico Longo. Its a gravel road, surrounded by trees, cows and flowers (depending on the season). You can walk and enjoy the nature or use it to jog. I love it!
    Povoacao Azores 9650
  • Faial Da Terra

Nice and cozy small village from where you can start one hiking trail to Salto do Prego (waterfall) and Sanguinho (ancient village).
    Faial Da Terra Azores
  • Restaurante Garajau

If you love fish, dont miss it :) It opens only during summer time.
  • Ribeira Quente

Fishermens village with a nice beach.
    Ribeira Quente Azores
  • Furnas

Furnas is one of the highlights of S. Miguel. Its a village where we can see the boilers, eat the Cozido, visit the Parque Terra Nostra and Poças da D. Beija (pools with natural hot water). Relaxing!
    Furnas Azores
  • Pico da Vara

Its a mountain, the highest point of the island, From there you can see both sides of the island. You have to do a long hiking trail to get there. One of the trails starts 5 min. away from my house.
    Azores 9630
  • Lagoa das Furnas

Beautiful lake where you walk around, see an exotic church and the place where they cook (underground) the famous Cozido das Furnas.
    Azores 9675
  • Nordeste

In the way to Nordeste, coming from Povoação, you can stop and visit the Miradouros (viewpoints) over the sea, with beautiful gardens. You will want to visit the Praia do Lombo Gordo, a nice beach.
    Nordeste Azores 9630
  • Lagoa do Congro

One the way to Vila Franca do Campo you wont want to miss this small but misterious lake, rounded by trees. Its one of the greenest places in S. Miguel.
  • Ilhéu de Vila Franca

A small island, about 10 minutes from Vila Franca do Campo (on boat). Its a natural reserve and has a small but nice beach. Because of its shape its called the princess ring :)
