About this listing
I would like to share my house with those who want to know S. Miguel, the largest island of Azores.
The house is located in Povoação, the first village founded by the Portuguese after the discovery of The Azores.
Nearby, you can find Lagoa das Furnas, Caldeiras das Furnas, Praia da Ribeira Quente and Miradouros in the road from Povoação to Nordeste.
To visit all the island, you need to rent a car; it doesn't matter where you're staying, you'll always need a car: the most interesting spots are not reachable by bus (in fact, the bus doesn't run often in the island). Concerning to the car rental, I can give you some suggestions, if you need.
The house has all the comfort: wireless internet, cable tv, fireplace, big garden, parking places, ...It's a recent construction, with modern decor and is located in a quiet spot with excellent views over the Atlantic Ocean. It's a residential neighborhood. The markets, bars and restaurants are in the village, about two minutes (driving) from the house.
This particular bedroom is cozy, full of light and has plenty of storage space. In there, exist two single beds, but they can be put together and they become a couple bed (180x190). I also have an air mattress for children and a baby crib (we can agree on a symbolic price). There are also a chair, a bedside table, a mirror and a bookcase.
You can use the kitchen and its utensils, but you should leave it as clean and tidy as you found it (it's not allowed to roast, fry or grill or use the barbecue). The guests may use the whole house, except the other bedrooms. There are two bathrooms for three bedrooms.
If you come with a group (more than two people), relatives or friends, and if you need more space, i can offer you two more bedrooms, but you have to book it separately on airbnb (please take a look at my other offers).
They guests may want to run or walk outdoors: there's a perfect path for that, ten minutes away (by foot)...
I prepare breakfast and everybody enjoys it: everyday I make homemade bread (still warm, depending on your waking up time :)) and cake and some local products: milk, tea, jams, butter, cheese, ...
I have a license for hosting, according to the Portuguese Law.
If you decide to stay with me, I'm sure you won't regret.
Do not smoke inside the house (just in the garden);
Do not make noise from 00.00h-07.30 am;
Keep the kitchen clean if you use it;
Keep your bedroom door locked;
Clean your feet on the entrance rug, if the ground is wet outside;
Turn off the lights when you don't need it (there's no need of turning on the lights during the day, because there are a lot of big windows);
Guests may have to cook their own breakfast (depending on the host's availability), but all the items will be provided in this case;
Do not use the decorative pillows for sleeping;
Do not leave anything outside during the night (or the dog will play with it and it means that he'll destroy).
Carla & Joao are wonderful hosts. They are very accomodating and welcoming. Breakfast was tasty and available every morning and the house is clean and beautiful with a very modern style. The view from the patio is magnificent! Liz and I took our hosts recommendations for visiting regional interests everyday we were there and each day was great!
Carla et João ont été des hôtes merveilleux, pleins de bons conseils, attentionnés et leur maison, où nous nous sommes sentis chez nous, est un véritable havre de paix.
Encore merci à vous deux pour avoir participé à ce fabuleux séjour.

Me and my wife, both late 50ies, have enjoyed the warm hospitality of Carla and Joao in their modern house up the hill above Povoacao. We have exchanged several emails before coming to Sao Miguel as this was our first time to Sao Miguel and to Azores. Carla always replied with detailed informations, and her recommendations were all excellent as we have found later by following them. The room we stayed in was clean and spacious. There are 3 rooms on the first floor for guests, and they share 2 bathrooms, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor. Although rooms were full we have never had any problems using the bathroom, neither in the evening nor in the morning. The breakfast provided was very healthy. Yoghurt, fruits, bread and cheese, home made jams, etc. Coffee from early morning, great to have it on the outside deck while watching the ocean. In the evening one can share the living room or seat outside. No TV in the room, the wifi reception was excellent. Outside parking along the back street accommodate several cars easy.
Each day Joao and Carla take their time for each guest to guide us to the best options/locations on the island, depending on the weather and our interests. So useful for any first timer as there are too many beautiful spots on the island.
The location was very good for exploring the central and astern part of the island, only the area west of Ponta Delgada requires a bit longer drive, yet even Sete Cidades is within an easy day trip distance.
Having a car is almost obligatory as walking down (and up) the hill to the centre of the Povoacao is not an easy task.
We could have stayed here for a month. Great hosts, idyllic surroundings, unbeatable stargazing...I could go on. While I hate to recommend the Açores (out of a selfish desire to preserve it), if you are looking here you're coming already, so stay with Carla! Great tips on everything from car rentals to hikes to hot springs (in the freaking ocean!), delicious breakfast, and an easygoing attitude. We very much hope to be back.
We loved staying at Carla's beautiful home! The pictures do not capture how beautiful the view is from their deck and yard. Carla was extremely helpful from start to finish, and she made sure that our stay was comfortable and easy! We highly recommend staying here!
We had a great at Carla's and Juan's place. They made us feel welcome straight away. They also gave us the perfect advice to explore the Island.

About the Host, Carla
I'm a high school teacher (I teach Portuguese, Latin and Ancient Greek) and I'm very lucky for living in the beautiful island of S. Miguel, in The Azores.
I'm a quiet person, who enjoys reading, relaxing on the garden, watching movies and do some hiking (Povoação, the village where I live, has a lot of hiking trails).
S. Miguel Island, the biggest of all Azorean islands, is a truly nature's paradise. You can walk around the lakes, visit magic gardens, have a bath on natural hot pools, swim with dolphins, go on a whale watching tour, see volcanos, go to the beach, walk in the middle of the woods for birdwatching, geocaching, hiking, discovering waterfalls or just relaxing.
The weather is very unpredictable. Never too cold; never too hot. Please, bring a rain coat and count the rainbows :) Prepare yourself for having the four seasons in the same day.
After booking guests will be provided with some suggestions: places to go and activities to do.
I have two female cats, Miona and Micas, and a baby dog, a German Shepperd puppy, called Zeus (edited: not so baby anymore...). We would like to share our place with those who want to know S. Miguel. Miona loves to have a different lap everyday and Zeus just wants to play with someone (Micas is more independent). And me... I promess do not disturb you and prepare delicious breakfasts for your mornings (I love to cook, and my homemade cakes are very appreciated :)).
We hope to meet you at our place! See you soon!
