I stayed at this beautiful cottage for four days and what a heavenly experience it was! Traveling on my own I felt secure and comfy, and the pool, what fun it was to jump in and enjoy the cool water on the warm days after sightseeing and enjoying the wonders of UBUD as they unfold !
The cottage tub is also magnificent ,large and fabulous , outside with flowers and beauty , great for a soak before hitting the town at nite ,which is only a short taxi ride anywhere.
The little paths that lead from the house,to the yellow flower cafe and more, are charming and fun to explore,a great walk .
The cottage is soooo pretty, with it's light grey overtones ,yet with a BALANISE feel , along with a hint of modern.
The bed is comfy , and the little meditation room adorable with it's bubbly, flowing waters ,and flowers.
Loved the hammock right outside the door , along with the chairs and tables , all arranged in a way which makes it really comfortable to hang outside ,,,,the doors all open easily out onto the outside areas too, making the entire space feel very open and breezy, the garden and pool area is all enclosed with trees , flowers , rocks ,and fern covered walls, lovely!
The decor is beautiful , statues everywhere ,the huge one in the window is magnificent! The kitchen area is perfect for making a coffee or tea, all organized if you want to cook as well, which I didn't because there are soooooo many great resturants to choose from everywhere.
Ketut will be there to help with luggage down the path ,so make sure to call him,and he's there everyday along with Wayan to help with any questions ,they were very kind.
I enjoyed every minute of my time spent here ,in this little magical haven, and If I get to visit UBUD in the future , I would most most definitely stay there again,,,,only much longer!!!!
Light , and blessings
I LOVE Bali. It was my first trip to Bali/Ubud and it won't be my last. I can say the same for Susan's villa. In fact, staying in this villa probably was half the charm of my holiday if you can believe that. It's perfect for one or a couple, even friends, and is of perfect distance away from Ubud center (I don't know why anyone would want to stay in the center anyway, you just go there to shop). It is by no means far, 5 mins on a motorcycle. Best part about it's location is being a 2 minute walk from Alchemy and their breakfast and salad bar. I'm quite a city girl so my first night, the natures sounds made me feel like I was in the dead of the jungle, but I appreciated it after the second night and the mosquito netting not only keeps the bugs out, but it makes sleeping rather elegant. The villa is small but you don't need anything bigger, why would you want to stay indoors in Bali? The salt water pool is absolutely lovely and warm and the yard gets plenty of sun so you don't miss the beach at all. There is a lovely terrace with a hammock that I was able to spend lots of time working at on my computer (like when it rained) and having some wine at in the evening. The bathroom is outdoors and showering outdoors is a special experience. I met both Susan and Ketut, who was SO kind and helped with everything I needed. Picked both me and my friend up at the airport and dropped us off at different arrival and departure times, which must have been annoying. Susan herself was very flexible, accommodating, and communicative. Overall the villa was so lovely I wish I owned it myself, and it might inspire me to do the same. Thank you Susan and Ketut!
We really loved our stay at this villa - perfectly decorated inside and good walking distance from ubud centre - just far away enough from the hussle and bussle but still close enough to restaurants and shops.
highly recommended. Only gripe would be the neighbouring villa's 2nd floor looks directly over the fence and into the "private" pool.
Still we'd go back here - staff was excellent.
It has been my third stay in Ubud and as I knew quite well the place, I decided to stay in Penestanan, a little village right next to Ubud. After two lovely airbnb experiences it was given that I searched for a private home for my stay. When I found Susan`s little villa, it was love at first sight and I was lucky that the villa was free for three weeks over Christmas / New Years eve. The villa: as in the pictures. Build and decorated with style and love. I loved the glass front that could be completely opened and so I had the feeling that I was part of the lovely garden. And I loved the size of the villa that is not too big but perfect for one or two people. I did not us the meditation room, but I liked to have the door to this annex room open and the feeling of a little garden in the back of the house. The bathroom was outdoor (as often in Bali) and even if there has been rain season, I liked to take showers under the open sky and be very close to the wonderful nature Bali offers to people with open minds and hearts. The little kitchen was perfect to make breakfast or a cup of tea, but everything is there, even a rice maker or an oven, fully equipped and ready to cook. The garden is lovely and full of different plants and flowers. I did not use so often the pool, but when I did, I enjoyed a lot. I sat for hours on the terrace listening and watching the nature around me. Yes, there are geckos (they bring luck by the way) and yes, there are aunts and other insects and dragonflyes. And it was lovely to be part of nature. And if I had enough, I went inside, closed the doors and had my privacy. The villa is perfectly located for people who don't like to be in the middle of a town. However only some footsteps away there are plenty of (mostly organic) restaurants and warungs. And to go to Ubud and to discover the surrounding I rented a scooter with helmet, what has been great. Ketut the Manager was very helpful and kind, organized the scooter for me within less than an hour, brought me to a painter outside of Ubud and showed me the way to the Balinese healer Tjokorda Rai. And he has been there every day and open to answer my questions. Also the two female houskeepers were kind and came every day /except Sunday) to clean the house and terrace carefully. The gardener took care of garden and pool and lovely Ibu (grandmother) came every day to take care of the little Family temple at the end of the garden. I enjoyed my stay a lot and would go back whenever my path leads me to Ubud again. Thank you Susan and team! Some recommendations: -...
We spent three nights at Susan's lovely bungalow as part of our honeymoon. Ubud is a very hectic place these days and Susan's house was a lovely reprieve from the hustle and bustle of town, although it's only a pleasant 15-20 minute walk (or quick taxi ride if you prefer) to the centre of town.
The house is beautiful and very comfortable. Susan has decorated it really nicely and the pool is great to dive into at the end of a hot day. There's no air con but this didn't bother us at all - the fans kept the room nice and cool. We liked having the kitchen and whilst there prepared own own breakfast with supplies bought from the nearby supermarket (down the bottom of the road and then turn left and walk up the hill for about five minutes) and nice bread from Casa Luna's Honeymoon bakery.
There are loads of good place's to eat out - we really enjoyed Murni's Warung just near the bridge - amazing rice paddy views and good Balinese food.
Some people have mentioned that it was noisy - we weren't bothered at all - the only sounds we heard were children playing during the day at a nearby bungalow and some gamalan music at night (which was really very pleasant).
Susan was super speedy at responding to our queries before we arrived and Ketut was very helpful whilst we were there. Two lovely ladies came each day to clean so everything was always spotless.
we loved staying at Susan's place and would definitely stay there again on future trips to Ubud.
I stayed at this beautiful cottage with my partner for a week. From start to finish, it was a pleasure to deal with Susan (the host), who was always prompt in getting back to my queries prior to our arrival.
Ketut (the local host) was great, as were the rest of the staff who come by for a few hours a day to clean the place.
The cottage is located in the artists' village of Penestanan, about 1.5km from the centre of Ubud. There's an abundance of health food cafes around, as well as more simple warungs selling local food. Be sure to explore the paths that go up behind the cottage into the fields - there are plenty of cafes around, and the paths are much more pleasant to walk on than the roads, which often lack footpaths. The Campuhan Ridge walk (about 10 mins to the starting point from the cottage itself) was a particular favourite of mine - Karsa Kafe is about 2km up the ridge and offers spectacular rice field views and simple, cheap food.
Our pick for breakfast was Cafe Vespa, about 5 mins walk through the path behind the cottage. The coffee was fantastic, as were the meals. We also self-catered breakfast for a few days - Kue Bakery is about 5 mins away too, and sells great bread and pastries. The big Bintang Supermarket is about 15 mins walk away (or 5 mins/Rp20,000 by taksi) for other food supplies. The kitchenette was small but had everything we needed for our stay.
For dinner, we often went into town (Cafe Wayan is still my favourite place after 3 visits to Ubud), but Bubu's Warung, right at the front of the cottage, was also fantastic and great value for money.
The cottage itself was exactly as advertised, and it's a credit to Susan and her staff how beautifully presented it is. The pool was cool but refreshing after a day's sightseeing, and we spent a lot of time simply relaxing with a nice cold Bintang and a book in the garden. If you're used to having aircon be aware that the property is only fan cooled - this didn't bother us as we slept with the windows open but it may be a concern to others.
As mentioned above, the staff generally only come by for a few hours each morning - this is probably the biggest reason for the price being so darn cheap compared to hotel complexes that offer villas, where staff may be on hand 24/7. We didn't mind this as it afforded us extra privacy, and having been to Ubud before we knew our way around enough. Ketut was always available by phone if we needed him, and he had quite reasonable rates if you wanted transport (similar to what you'll find from the taksi drivers on the street).
All in all, we cannot recommend this place highly enough - the value for money was excellent compared to similar offerings!
This is a real slice of paradise in Bali. Far enough out of Ubud to be quiet and relaxing, but still with lots of nice restaurants within easy walking distance ... including a great local Warung right outside the front.
The villa is small, but really beautiful and the scenery is brilliant. The pool outside is perfect to cool off in and it's pretty stunning sitting in there looking out over the nature surrounding the villa. The outdoor bathroom is really great ... and the massive bath is extremely relaxing.
Ketut was really friendly and helpful with getting us around (and his daughter was adorable too!) and I'm sure if there had been any problems, he would have been really helpful with them too.
The only slight downside was that with just a fan in there, it was really hot at night. Talking to some of the local Balinese people, it was unusually hot at night, so I'm sure we were just a bit of unlucky with the timing of our stay.
The place is beautiful, but not quiet or tranquil. Sleeping in that room feels like sleeping on the street. With their open roof, you wake up every time the neighbors come drop off or pick up their scooters or someone walks down the alley.
Also, there is no place to sit down and eat, unless you like your food at ground floor level.
The bathtub is an accident waiting to happen. It looks gorgeous on pictures but it's slippery with no holds and surrounded by rocks on the floor, which makes it hard to come out. The water is lukewarm at best.
The help is not punctual and don't pick up their phones. We tried contact them before we arrived and while we were there without any luck. When they finally stopped by we agreed on a time for him to come back and I'm still waiting for him. We had to leave a note and money on the bed when we left because our driver was waiting for us.
It was an OK experience but i wouldn't go back.
Please read the review that I left for this guest.... Francisca and her boyfriend were a nightmare. They were fighting the whole time they were there. Thank goodness no other guests were there at the time. Her partner had to be escorted home drunk and she spent their 3 days at the property howling distraught at his abusive behaviour. My friend was staying at the property next door and alerted me to what was going on in the middle of the night. I was going to call Police and have them evicted but the locals intervened....To top it off they then scampered off without paying the staff service fee. This review is their idea of payback because I didnt review her kindly. How sad. I just hope no one else has to deal with them in the future. Disrespecful people that should stay home and not inflict their domestic problems on others.......
When we first arrived at Susan's bungalow, we were greeted by a flower lined entrance. Once we opened the rustic looking doors, we saw 107(we actually counted) flowers that surrounded our bed. We had a heart shape rose petal display on our bed and the outside prayer garden. Nano was very kind in showing us how everything worked. The bungalow itself was very enjoyable and we loved every minute spent in Ubud. I would highly recommend this bungalow to anyone who is interested in staying in Ubud. Ubud was our favorite place we stopped at on our honeymoon and I would come back again in a heartbeat!
The little cottage is a lovely place to relax in, well designed and quiet. It's situated in Penestanan (near Ubud) and for us it was a good decision, because this area is not very busy and peaceful.
