We were well received by the Balinese staff, and the upper bedroom really is stunning. The level of cleanliness is what you would expect.
The lower bedroom is completely open and part of the living area, so not much privacy there. The noise level at night is high due to roosters and traffic. so bring your ear plugs
The pool is very nice and a real blessing during the hot days in Ubud.
If you want something that feels authentic, then this could be the place for you.
"Sanctuary" - the word is emblazoned on all the staff's t-shirts and it is the perfect word to describe the lovely feeling of crossing the threshold of this gem hidden right outside Ubud's main road. A tiny compound with a fantasy tropical forest, a large welcoming pool and a few perfectly spaced wooden houses, all close yet private, it is like a perfect community or the smallest boutique hotel. Heaven. We were offered a fresh juice upon arrival and we loved our time there. We rented one of the largest houses, and it was worked for a family of 4. Every day I marvelled at the carved ceiling of the main bedroom, the view from the top floor, the comfortable beds, open air bathroom. A delicious breakfast was served every day. It was quiet, peaceful and wonderful. In the end our days there were the best part of our trip and the best value too. We are already hoping to return. The only downside are the roosters right next door that start singing pre-dawn.... but overall THANK YOU for a wonderful experience. We loved it.
We had a group of 4 and only one night stay but our stay was Amazing! The house is incredible- photos do not do this justice. The location is also good & very close on a moto (I'd imagine a 15minute walk if you're on foot). The staff and driver were kind & lovely at each interaction. Thank you for the stay!
Me and two friends (unfortunately) only stayed one night in this great place and really enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere, the very good service and the beautiful location making you feel like you're staying in the middle of the jungle. We booked the place only one day in advance and had no problems to arrange everything on such a short notice thanks to the very nice and friendly staff. We would definitely stay here again when we come back to Ubud. Thanks to all the people that made us enjoy our time there!!
It was an enjoyable stay. Convenient location - The pool was a big plus. Sak Ming was very responsive and accommodating when we had to change our travel plans a few times.
Location: was fairly close to Central Ubud (approximately 5-10 minutes taxi ride or 50,000 Rupiah)
Rooms: clean and spacious room. However, the first floor of the house is an open air room therefore the 1st floor bedroom didn't have any AC.
Staff: they were very helpful and helped us get discount and information for specific tours around Ubud.
Sound: Very noisy roosters around the area. However, the other house staying at the Sanctuary were fairly quiet.
We had a very nice stay at Joglo Ganesha. The building is lovely and looks just like the pictures. The pool is great. The staff is warm and friendly and so very helpful. They made transport and touring easy. Breakfasts were great. Lots of helpful info is available in an intro packet for guests too.
There are also a few things to note for future guests, especially if they have not visited Ubud/Bali before.
Noise - The accommodations are not quiet. A busy road is very close to the complex and motorbikes, cars, trucks can be very noisy at night and in the early morning. Roosters and dogs are also very noisy. If you can sleep with earplugs - this is not a problem, but it's worth knowing.
Distance - This was farther from the Monkey Forest and from town than I anticipated. It is about a 30-minute walk along a busy road. Better to get a taxi or driver in and out of town.
Community - this is listed as "Entire Home/Apt" and it is described as a "village" and a "private residence." None of these descriptions really prepared me for the accommodation. There are, I think, 4 residences here that surround a central pool. I would guess there are about 4 meters(12 feet) maximum between the houses so you are in close quarters with whomever else has booked accommodation. With open-air living rooms (even with blinds drawn) you are living up close and personal with the other guests - with their phone calls, computer games, children, etc. Not necessarily a problem, but something to be aware of.
Animals: Geckos, frogs, ants, and mosquitoes abound and will be in your open-air living/sleeping area. There are also a few cats who make themselves at home in these open areas. This was not a problem for us…but for people new to Bali…maybe good to know in advance. Again - roosters and dogs will be heard…but not seen.
All in all - we had a lovely visit.

David, my husband was a set designer and furniture designer for the movie industry in Los Angeles for thirty years and worked with the tops in the industry....Steven Spielberg, Jodie Foster, Robert Redford, Bruce Springsteen and many more. His built the Captains Chair for Star Trek Insurrection and had the most "ordered" bed in TV history from the TV hit, "Mad about You".
He designed furniture for many top Restaurants in Los Angeles from the Saddle Peak Lodge in Malibu to Malibu Adobe with Ali McGraw. His resume is extensive and his client list is long....Billy Crystal, David Hasselhof, Arnold Schwarzanegger to Keenan Wayans.
He has translated that skill into building ten amazingly different houses since he's come to Bali. Our house is amazing and you will see why he is so in demand!
I have a variety of interests that keep me busy. I was a hairdresser for 30 years in the US. I have spent years doing spiritual growth work and now work with others with addiction and codependency issues. I love this work and the chance to give back what I was taught. I've been an artist my whole life so our home is filled with original art ( mine and others) and I have an awesome studio..Anyone that loves to paint will fall in love here. My latest passion is teaching Zumba, What a blast!
As you can see, we are both loving our life and filling the hours manifesting our dreams. We both are creative artists and love to explore the world and the people in it.
Since we've been in Bali we've been taking in South East Asia. We love Vietnam, and Thailand for their amazing cuisine.
We are frequently traveling, so we are sorry that we don't get to meet all our guests, but we leave you in the hands of an amazing staff and manager, Sakming, who will be your contact person.
