The booking process was fantastic. I had a couple of queries before I was ready to book and they were responded to very quickly and efficiently answering my questions fully.
We used a taxi from the airport during the daytime and had no problems finding the accommodation. The information provided was more than sufficient.
On arrival I was happy that the property had a real Balinese feel to it and surrounded by nature. There are lots of trees and very green. The purpose of my trip was to spend time in Ubud and in a place where my two young boys could be exposed to a bit of nature. In that sense the villa and property were perfect.
My initial reaction upon seeing the pool was that it was quite small and that the configuration of the villa was a little strange. I hadn't realised how 'outside' the second bedroom was. It turned out to be a fantastic configuration for us. We were travelling myself and my two boys (we slept in the upstairs bedroom) and my Indonesian helper (she slept in the downstairs bedroom). There is no real separation between the downstairs living area and the downstairs bedroom. It did not present a problem for us but can imagine with a different family configuration this may be an issue. The bedroom upstairs was a good size and was ready prepared with a double bed for my children and the main bed for me. The villa was tidy, clean and perfectly adequate for us.
Breakfast was great. Good selection of foods and prepared fresh when you wanted it. The staff were friendly and only too happy to help. They were happy to call for a 'taxi' who did happen to be a family member, however all the prices in Ubud for short trips seem to always be the same (Rr50.000). They were happy to lend me an adaptor and when I accidentally broke the curtain rail when closing the curtains late at night they were so helpful coming to the villa to fix it so that I wouldn't have to sleep with light coming in.
I think it's a great villa and good value for money. My only real negative comment would be the noise. It is near the road so lots of motorbikes, cars and what sounded like trucks. There are a lot of dogs barking and then the roosters also.
The staff at Desa Sanctuaty are lovely and do their upmost to help with every situation. Accommodation is also lovely. Thanls for the enjoyable stay!
Had the pleasure of meeting David when staying at Joglo Ganesha. He and his staff were wonderfully helpful regarding questions we had about what to do during our stay in Ubud.
It is unfortunate about the neighbourhood dogs barking and roosters crowing almost constantly, but again the staff were all to happy to help by providing earplugs.
We had some minor issues with water pressure and hot water being sporadic, however the pump was being fixed as we left to rectify this :)
I cannot fault the service, price or location! Great wifi too! Thanks so much!
We stayed at this beautiful sanctuary for 2 nights and most, if not, all of our needs were definitely met. The place is ideal for the relaxation we needed, yet close to the center of the town of Ubud for shopping and tourist activities. I've been in touch with Sak Ming on behalf of David and Brenda prior to our arrival and they communicate in timely manner. Taman and Komang are very friendly and are always there at the property to answer any of the guests' inquiries. Thank you.
We were well received by the Balinese staff, and the upper bedroom really is stunning. The level of cleanliness is what you would expect.
The lower bedroom is completely open and part of the living area, so not much privacy there. The noise level at night is high due to roosters and traffic. so bring your ear plugs
The pool is very nice and a real blessing during the hot days in Ubud.
If you want something that feels authentic, then this could be the place for you.
"Sanctuary" - the word is emblazoned on all the staff's t-shirts and it is the perfect word to describe the lovely feeling of crossing the threshold of this gem hidden right outside Ubud's main road. A tiny compound with a fantasy tropical forest, a large welcoming pool and a few perfectly spaced wooden houses, all close yet private, it is like a perfect community or the smallest boutique hotel. Heaven. We were offered a fresh juice upon arrival and we loved our time there. We rented one of the largest houses, and it was worked for a family of 4. Every day I marvelled at the carved ceiling of the main bedroom, the view from the top floor, the comfortable beds, open air bathroom. A delicious breakfast was served every day. It was quiet, peaceful and wonderful. In the end our days there were the best part of our trip and the best value too. We are already hoping to return. The only downside are the roosters right next door that start singing pre-dawn.... but overall THANK YOU for a wonderful experience. We loved it.
We had a group of 4 and only one night stay but our stay was Amazing! The house is incredible- photos do not do this justice. The location is also good & very close on a moto (I'd imagine a 15minute walk if you're on foot). The staff and driver were kind & lovely at each interaction. Thank you for the stay!

About the Host, David And Brenda
David, my husband was a set designer and furniture designer for the movie industry in Los Angeles for thirty years and worked with the tops in the industry....Steven Spielberg, Jodie Foster, Robert Redford, Bruce Springsteen and many more. His built the Captains Chair for Star Trek Insurrection and had the most "ordered" bed in TV history from the TV hit, "Mad about You".
He designed furniture for many top Restaurants in Los Angeles from the Saddle Peak Lodge in Malibu to Malibu Adobe with Ali McGraw. His resume is extensive and his client list is long....Billy Crystal, David Hasselhof, Arnold Schwarzanegger to Keenan Wayans.
He has translated that skill into building ten amazingly different houses since he's come to Bali. Our house is amazing and you will see why he is so in demand!
I have a variety of interests that keep me busy. I have spent years doing spiritual growth work and now work with others with addiction and codependency issues. I love this work and the chance to give back what I was taught. I've been an artist my whole life so our home is filled with original art ( mine and others) and I have an awesome studio..Anyone that loves to paint will fall in love here. My latest passion is teaching Zumba, What a blast!
As you can see, we are both loving our life and filling the hours manifesting our dreams. We both are creative artists and love to explore the world and the people in it.
Since we've been in Bali we've been taking in South East Asia. We love Vietnam, and Thailand for their amazing cuisine.
We are frequently traveling, so we are sorry that we don't get to meet all our guests, but we leave you in the hands of an amazing staff and manager, Eko and Sakming, who will be your contact people.
