I live in this beautiful, centrally located two-bedroom, two-bath home, so It is available for 2014 South by Southwest festivals and conferences only.
It's a beautiful, very comfortable place with many amenities and an ideal SXSW location. However, there are a couple of caveats:
- The layout is such that it is best rented by a group that is reasonably comfortable sharing bathrooms and spaces in general. This doesn't mean you have to be intimate or even close friends, but here's the deal:
-- There are two completely self-enclosed bedrooms (1 real king bed and 1 real double bed)
-- There are two separate full bathrooms
-- There is full foldout futon and frame in the living room
-- There is another full futon available for putting on the floor.
-- It's all beautifully remodeled (see below) with full amazing kitchen, spacious living room, beautiful baths, big lovely porch, gated driveway, etc., etc.
So, no big deal, but:
-- The bedrooms are on either side of the front entry as you enter the house. So you have to either go through one of the bedrooms *or* use the back door to get to the common areas of the house.
-- One bathroom has a full big shower and the other has an amazing huge soaking tub but only a shower-style handle on the faucet (it's not a full standup shower, though you can still stand up and use the shower head, of course. So people who really prefer normal showers might be sharing the one shower. Both bathrooms have toilets, sinks, storage, all that.
*IMPORTANT for those with *severe* allergies to dog dander*: I normally live in the house with two dogs. We will all vacate, of course, and the place will be thoroughly cleaned and steam-cleaned before your arrival. However, if someone in your party is extremely sensitive to dog dander, this is probably not the place for you -- it might be impossible to get every trace of it out.*
Okay, now for the amazing parts:
My lovely home was built in 1907 and ecently remodeled with modern, stylish, artful amenities. A quiet pocket in the middle of the happening Central Eastside. SXSW. Bars, live music, trailer food, great restaurants, and more one block away in each direction. Five-minute walk to Red River/Sixth, 10 minutes to Convention Center/downtown or burgeoning East Sixth entertainment district. You will be where the action is, but far enough that it won't keep you awake if/when you do decide to sleep. Great for entertaining or retreating and recharging, or a little of both.
The house has all the amenities you could want for your stay. Two bedrooms - one with a real king bed, and the other with a real full bed. There is an additional new, full futon and frame available in the living room. If you really want to pack 'em in, the couch is eminently sleepable. Lotsa nice linens. Free WiFi, much cable, including HBO. Full kitchen with all needed appliances, dishware, cooking tools, etc. Full-sized washer and dryer. On-demand hot water, so you never run out. Modern bathrooms with huge shower and soaking tub, plus blow dryer and basic toiletries. Iron available, plenty of closet space. Lovely open living-kitchen combo with high ceilings and beautiful, offbeat decor. Grand front porch with great downtown views, perfect for extending your evening with friends or for morning coffee. Fenced (not covered) offstreet parking at no additional charge. I have lived in Austin forever and attended SXSW for years, so I can provide you with tips, maps, brochures, or whatever you need to guide you. I'm a thoughtful, friendly host (though I'll be staying elsewhere, I'll be in town, and you can feel free to call for anything); I'm proud of my city and love to tell people all about it. And I am equally happy to stay out of your hair if you prefer to explore on your own and/or know what you're doing. Questions? Qualms? Ask away! I'm a great host - believe it!
Socialize and have fun, but no huge, raging parties, please. I am not responsible for theft, loss, or damage to any of your personal property, including vehicles. Front door must be locked at all times. Front and back must be locked whenever house will be empty. NO SMOKING OF ANY KIND INSIDE. Please use ashtrays outside and put out smoking materials in them completely (don't toss in yard, on ground, or on porch) - be aware of frequent fire danger in this area.
Great house, perfect for four people. Enjoyed the beer and coffee! We had a great stay over the Grand Prix weekend. Walking distance to centre of Austin. Secure parking. Comfortable and homely. Cannot recommend highly enough.
The house was great, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Cindy was a great hostess and she even provided us with 5 bikes! I definitely recommend.

I've lived in Austin forever, and I love to be an ambassador for my chosen hometown. I'm a writer and editor. I have two big, rambunctious dogs whom I adore (and who will not be staying at the house during guest stays). My two passions since childhood have been rock music and journalism, and, with a few tweaks, that's what they still are. I dunno - I'm a liberal arts major who does and likes the things liberal arts majors do. I love delicious and adventurous food, books, great movies, design of all kinds, plants, and traveling, which I don't get to do enough of. I tend to enjoy big, cosmopolitan ciites like New York, Paris, and Rome or beautiful beaches in Mexico or high desert like Marfa and surroundings or northern New Mexico. I'm friendly and goofy. I'm sure you've stopped reading by now.
