If you're looking for an authentic experience living as a local in the very heart of Barcelona, come and stay at our little home in the city's most popular neighbourhood, El Born. Aside from the trendy shops, restaurants and modern transportation, very little has changed over the years. From the small winding streets to the large squares where people go for lunch or dinner, El Born is undoubtedly the best place to spend your holiday in Barcelona.
Just a stone's throw from the stunning 14th century Santa Maria del Mar church, our apartment is perfectly located. You have the main thoroughfare in the neighbourhood, Passeig del Born, (an old jousting ground) right around the corner, so you are literally in the heart of everything the moment you step out of the door. Within five or ten minutes, you can walk to the beach, the port, the Ramblas, and the beautiful Ciutadella Park. You also have dozens of bus stops (including the tourist hop-on, hop-off bus), three metro stations and the international train station Franca within a 3 minute walk.
Our apartment is located on one of the most historical streets in the neighbourhood, where the old carriages would enter on to the Passeig del Born, carrying the royal family before a jousting match. Translated into English as “Glass Street", it was home to many of the city's glassworkers in medieval times. It is a pedestrianised street so other than a little noise from the bars at the weekends; it is generally very quiet for such a central location.
The apartment is on the sixth floor of a 200 year old building, with no lift. Personally, we find that those 2-minutes of exercise climbing the 105 steps is a welcome relief after indulging in all the amazing tapas and wine from the nearby restaurants, but this is something to be sure about before booking.
With a total space of 45m2, the size is very typical of apartments in the city centre, and big enough to comfortably accommodate two people. It has a main area consisting of the living room, double bedroom and dining space/entrance hall, which can be segmented by a system of curtains and blinds to create smaller, more private spaces, or left as one big open-plan space. We have designed it in such a way that you can choose! (Please note that the bedroom is not a separate room!) There is a private terrace of 4m2 which comes off the living room, where you can sit out and dine or relax with a good book and a glass or two of Sangria in the evenings. There is also a fast and secure WIFI connection.
The kitchen is a separate area from the main space and comes fully-equipped with ample cooking facilities and everything you need to cater from home, including a washing machine which you are welcome to use. The bathroom is extremely small but perfectly formed – a 1.5m2 wetroom which consists of a shower, toilet and sink. Again, this is very typical of apartments in the medieval heart of Barcelona, and we lovingly call it ‘The Shed'!
Another short climb of around 30 steps and you will reach the rooftop terrace which has the most spectacular panoramic views over the whole of the city of Barcelona. As the building is one of the highest in the area (hence so many steps!), the views are unobstructed so you will have plenty of privacy to lie in the sunshine.
The apartment is adorned with beautiful, original floor tiles which are over 100 years old, and it has been designed around an organic garden theme, with a mixture of new, vintage and up-cycled furniture. We recently renovated the whole apartment and the fascia of the entire building has also just been restored, with new doors and windows added.
As your hosts, Chris (airbnb us(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) and I (Sarah) are here to look after you and can provide you with all the information you need on where to go and what to do during your stay. We provide all the latest city magazines so you know what's happening while you are here and to make you feel at home, we even throw in a few essentials such as freshly baked bread, milk, tea, coffee... and Spanish wine! :)
- The apartment sleeps only two people and is therefore best suited to couples only.
- Respect the neighbours - Strictly no parties and no noise in the stairwell when leaving or entering the apartment, especially with luggage.
- PLEASE be aware that the apartment is on the sixth floor with a winding staircase and no lift. Although we can sometimes help with carrying luggage, we advise that you do not bring large and heavy suitcases.
- Towels provided are for use only in the apartment. If you plan on going to the beach, please bring your own beach towels.
- We are flexible with check-in and check-out times. However, where we have same-day check-ins and check-outs, we ask that guests departing can leave by 11am and guests arriving, come after 1pm. This allows us to clean the apartment thoroughly in between.
