The Space

*Summer Steal!* Looking for someone to stay in all of July and August for $2300 total!

Welcome to my creative sanctuary in the middle of urban LA! My lovely condominium is convenient to Korean BBQ, nightclubs, spas, bars, and shopping. It's also a nice walk to the subway system and a short drive (or bus ride) to LA Live and Downtown LA. Many people who have stayed here came without a car to go to events in Downtown including the LA Convention Center and Staples Center which is one 10 minute bus ride away.

I am offering a simple, clean, bedroom with cathedral ceilings and private bathroom. I bought this place in March 2010 and am proud of it! There's funky art I've made and collected (from all over the world) all over the house! My bed is a new Tempurpedic adjustable bed which massages and sits upright! There's also a desk!

Because this room is my bedroom, I will sleep in my loft upstairs. I pretty much have not slept in this room in the last two years and it's become my Airbnb room. This is not a hassle for me, and in no way does it make me feel "dislocated"-- just want guests to know this in advance. I also work upstairs in the loft in the day as I work from home. It's a very quiet unit in a very quiet building.

There is a sweet cat named Octavia who is a foster cat. She would love you to pet her.

This neighborhood is perfect for those traveling without a car as it's convenient to major boulevards and public transportation. I am 6 blocks from the Purple line which takes you to Downtown LA. You can also transfer to the Red Line from the Purple line and go to Hollywood and Universal Studios. The 28 bus stop is two blocks away. It takes you to Downtown LA heading East, but if you take it headed West, you can go to Beverly Hills, Little Ethiopia and Century City Mall. You can walk 6 blocks to the Wilshire bus and take a bus that takes you to the beach! In fact, I live here without a car and aside from some long bus rides, have been able to make it work fine!

I have lived in Los Angeles for 14 years and am happy to recommend all sorts of hotspots that only the locals know! Especially if you are a fan of performance and art. I also have the password to the nearby "R Bar" which is in walking distance.

Right now the other bedroom is occupied by my roommate Edward. He's an actor and gone a lot rehearsing or shooting. You may or may not run into him! He's a nice guy regardless!

You also have full access to my kitchen, wireless internet, and FREE laundry and dryer. Make yourself at home in the living room. Pull a book from my shelf and read before bedtime!

Gated parking is also available free with the rental price please let me know ahead of time that you will use it so I can coordinate getting you the clicker. No car? I also offer my bike FREE for borrowing if you'd like to get around that way!

Each additional person is an additional $20/night. I can bring an airbed queen mattress and linens in for a 3rd guest (though it doesn't leave much floor room in that bedroom!). I can do one night rentals but please add a $20 cleaning fee.

Interaction with Guests

If I'm in town, you'll see me during the day. I'm happy to tell you places to go, but I also let my guests have time alone if that's what they want from their trip. Just look at me as your friend in LA. I also can text you tips if I am on the road.

The Neighborhood

FOOD! Spas! Hidden nightlife! The proximity to Downtown and public transport! This neighborhood is truly an undiscovered gem in LA. It's very central and getting anywhere else isn't so hard.

Getting around

The subway is in walking distance. I am also right off Olympic Blvd. The 28/728 will take you to Downtown or Century City. Wilshire Blvd and the 20/720 takes you to the rest of LA. Hollywood is just North of here.

Other Things to Note

After receiving some feedback from guests, I'm happy to report that I am stocking the room with BRAND NEW towels and sheets! I will also have water and welcome refreshments on the bed upon your arrival!

This is a loft so the ceilings are high. It feels really spacious for that reason.

  • The loft was clean and spacious. Kristina is an amazing host- super organized with tons of helpful information and gave me a welcome gift package. When I visit LA again, I will definitely try to stay again.

  • Kristina is, indeed, a funky artist. It was a fun place to stay and Kristina was really friendly and interesting to talk to. She was in the middle of preparing for a fashion show of sorts while I was visiting, and it was entertaining to talk to her about her costumes and ideas for the show.

The place itself worked well, and had ample space for one or two people. The bed is as comfortable as several people have mentioned, and the bedding was quite nice as well. Even though I wasn't able to arrive while Kristina was home, she made the entry into the building and unit really easy. And there was a parking spot in the garage for my rental car, so that was a nice bonus! (Though parking seems pretty easy in the neighborhood.)

One last note--there were some comments in other reviews about the neighborhood's safety, but I walked around the area a few times during my stay, both daytime and after dark, and I didn't find it to be of particular concern. LA is a big city, and you should use appropriate caution in any area of town.

  • Kristina was a great host and very helpful with suggestions and tips. Would definitely stay with her again! And the bed was super comfy

  • Engaging and conversant, Kristina offers up an interesting venue with secure parking in a part of LA that proved really convenient for my daughter's concert-going aims and my own desire to visit various art museums. Though the photos of the place and the area are representative (but perhaps a bit out of date--Cafe Wien went bankrupt in 2010), I would add that the unit--and my room, specifically--was not as clean and tidy as I would have desired. As a previous reviewer indicates, do consider bringing your own towels. All in all, though, the value in terms of dollar to space allotted is very good.

    Response from Kristina:

HI Anne, Thanks for the feedback. I do have other towels I could have made available to you. You only needed to just ask! Sorry about that! I will also remove the Cafe Wien photo from my description.

  • Kristina was very welcoming and friendly. My room and private bathroom were clean and tidy and the bed was indeed very comfortable. The rest of the house had a more "lived in" feel in terms of clutter and cleanliness. The neighborhood is working class and most of the homes the had locked gates around them. Kristina advised me not to walk late at night alone as a woman. That would have been good info. to know before arriving. Overall it was a great stay!

  • The block was well gated with keyed access. Kristina made sure there was a local contact whilst she was away. The apartment was light with high ceilings and lots of interesting posters and pictures/paintings. Her room also had a wonderful high ceiling. I slept well. The room had en-suite and there were facilities for cooking and for washing clothes and drying and also a veranda and clothes horse for hanging clothes to dry naturally (I have a loathing of dryers turning my t-shirts to toddler’s size). I was able to come and go several times a day to spend time with my tutor and come back and work on my laptop - the wireless internet connection worked well. The cat was very nice and became friendly but totally ignored me when her owner returned...

  • I loved staying here! Kristina was an awesome host. Everything pictured and stated in the description was accurate. The room was very clean as well as the private bathroom. The bed was super comfortable and the wifi was always working. Her cat was super sweet and never entered the room. She gave great insight to places to eat and was a true pleasure to be around. The location is safe and there is gated parking which is accessible through a remote which she supplied. I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay at Kristina's again.
