An island is something special, for better or worse. A limited universe.

From the small harbor we climb stone stairs and a small path to finally find ourselves in our beloved home, suspended in the blue.

Alicudi is an experience to be conquered, to be enjoyed intensely and as long as possible. When one arrives, one already regrets that the departure is near.

Alicudi is simply unique. Magical. Out of time and space.

The space
Alicudi is one of the eight islands that make up the Aeolian archipelago, a chain of volcanic islands in the north of Sicily. Of all of them, Alicudi is certainly one of the most distinctive since there are no roads (only paths and stone stairs), no cars, and luggage and groceries are carried by mules driven by local people.

The island is characterized by a magical tranquility and serenity. There are only two stores, a bar and a restaurant; dinners can be arranged by reservation at the homes of local fishermen.
From the second half of July to the beginning of September, the atmosphere changes slightly, with the arrival of people who have been coming to the island for many years now on vacation: at sunset, after a day at the beach, we meet for drinks at the old pier before heading back home; there are then very informal and open private parties and dancing evenings on the pier organized by the local youth.

Our house is located halfway up the coast (15 to 20 minutes walk) and offers breathtaking views of the archipelago. It is a typical Aeolian house, with a large loggia terrace accompanying its entire length. During the day the terrace is shaded by a cannizzo, but at night the starry sky is a unique sight, thanks to the absence of light pollution. All rooms overlook the terrace, which in the warm months becomes the heart of life in the house.

There are four bedrooms, all with sea views, three with double beds and one with mattresses on the floor; the bathroom is large and bright. The kitchen is cozy and very functional with a gas stove, an electric oven, and lots of useful dishes. All rooms are decorated in bright colors and simple furnishings that reflect the surroundings.

The house, which also includes a small garden with an outdoor shower overlooking Filicudi, was featured in "New Seaside Interiors," a book published by Angelica Taschen (2008, Taschen, pp. 116-121).

Guest access
To get to Alicudi:
In the summer months (Mid-June-Mid-September): hydrofoils (aliscafi) from Milazzo and Palermo (Liberty Lines) and night ferry from Naples (Siremar).
In the rest of the year: hydrofoils (aliscafi) from Milazzo and fewer night ferries from Naples (less frequent).

To get to Milazzo it is possible to take a direct bus from Catania airport (summer months only). In the rest of the year you can take two buses (Catania-Messina, Messina-Milazzo) or regional trains from Catania or Palermo (look on Trenitalia).

Of course, we are not responsible for weather conditions. The risk of disruptions of connections exists, although very rare especially in the warm season.

Guests are met at the pier and taken home since there are no streets and house numbers. For those who wish, we organize the trip with the mule (20€) carrying luggage and possibly an initial shopping.

Other things to note
For grocery shopping there are two well-stocked stores. Meat and cigarettes are not available on the island. Water is unfortunately not drinkable as it comes from tankers, so it is necessary to buy water bottles.

There are no ATMs on the island to withdraw cash.

We will provide a guide with tips and contacts for buying fresh fish and arranging boat rides and dinners with local people.

The house is equipped with satellite wi-fi (not connected to a phone line) adequate for smart working.

In respect for the tranquility of the island and the neighborhood in this house we do not wish parties to be held in our home.

Neighborhood highlights

The house offers a breathtaking view embracing all the Eolian archipelago.
It is a traditional eolian house, with a beautiful shadowy terrace that runs along the whole extension of the 5 rooms (4 bedrooms, kitchen and bathrooms).

During the day, you can see all the other islands and as far as the Sicilian coast. During the night the stars are amazing, as there is almost no light pollution.
All the rooms look towards the sea and open on the terrace, that in summer time is the heart of the house's life.
