Just a few miles from the popular marketing hub of Newtown, Barn Owl Lodge sits majestically at the helm of a hidden valley with lush green fields, ancient woodland and a flourishing array of natural wildlife. This peaceful oasis feels a million miles from the megalomania of the modern world and provides the perfect tonic from the stresses and strains of everyday life.

This often-overlooked part of Wales has plenty to offer with a vast array of beautiful countryside to explore.

The space
What's more, its central location makes it well placed to explore much of Wales' itself with the beaches of Aberdyfi, Snowdonia National Park, The Shropshire Hills, and even The Brecon Beacons all within an hours' drive.

However, you may simply want to relax and unwind in this gorgeous natural setting with just the birds and the bees for company. Sitting on the valley slope, this handcrafted lodge perfectly soaks up the sun as it sweeps through the valley and enjoys simply stunning views of the tranquil countryside surrounds.

There are plenty of lazier outings on offer with a path from the lodge itself meandering towards the ancient woodland behind. What's more, Newtown is only a few miles away, with tea rooms, bistros and lovely restaurants should you fancy a bite to eat.

Nestled alongside ancient woodland, the lodge sits at the top of a large grazing field with a variety of animals wandering past from sheep and their lambs to calves and horses. The animals are separated from the grounds of the lodge, but provide a charming outlook as they amble cheerily through the meadows.

When you take a second to stop and listen, the air is infused with a soothing babble of the Brechan brook trickling past, while the huge array of local birdlife brings a cacophony of chirrups throughout the day. The natural murmurings of this wild location offer a sense of wild serenity, which is seldom found.

The blossoming population of Barn Owls and Red Kites highlight the sites natural significance. Endangered Red Kites are seen flying daily overhead from their nesting sites in the woods behind, while at night the hypnotic hoot of owls hunting in the darkness is a common sound.

Visitors are welcome to witness the farming activities on the owner's farm, inckuding lambing during the season, and feeding lambs or calves can be arranged on request.

The pristine lodge is effortlessly luxurious with plenty of charm and comfort, while the sweeping glass façade allows you to fully indulge in the glorious natural setting. Spot the mist lingering in the valley in the early morn or glimpse one of the many Red Kites gliding on the thermals in the afternoon. The large windows are a portal into a world of natural wonder and are perfect for enjoying this enchanting location.

Lounge around on the south-facing balcony basking in the warming rays of the sun or soak away your day in the hot tub spa with a glass of something bubbly. Barn Owl Lodge is wonderfully is wonderfully equipped for a magnificent countryside escape and is the perfect place to get away from it all.

Where you’ll be

NEWTOWN, POWYS, Wales, United Kingdom

Newtown is a bustling market town on the banks of the river Severn and has a range of amenities including theatres, galleries, excellent shops, supermarkets, banks, post office, library with internet access, chemist, doctors and filling station. For the foodies out there we recommend Cafe Brisco for a healthy lunch, The Wagon and Horses for a delicious pub meal or The Sarn for a special occasion.

The Kerry Ridgeway runs along the crest of Kerry Hill, is the oldest of all these routes and is a gentle undulating walk through heather moors, cool woodlands and bilberry rich heaths with fantastic views - ideal for dog walkers, mountain bikers, fisher folk (coarse and fly fishing are nearby) and
horse riders.

For a walk on the wild side, try the Llyn Mawr Nature Reserve. There is the fabulous circular walk at Llyn Mawr Nature Reserve past a trio of lakes, Llyn Mawr, Lyn-y-Tarw and Llyn Du - a place of standing stones, tall skies, boggy hollows and watery margins which in the summer come alive with flowers and water voles, buzzards and skylarks, a real walk on the wild side!

Gregynog Hall & Parkland is within an easy drive and has 750 acres of landscaped parkland dotted with sculptures and hosts an annual music festival in June which attracts classical, jazz and folk artists of international repute.

You can check out the Llanfair Steam Railway, Powis and Montgomery historic castles and the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway - a 16 mile round trip by narrow gauge steam train through beautiful countryside - are all only a short drive away.

Carriage Driving for the more adventurous members in your party may like to try Horse Drawn Carriage Driving in Llanidloes, one of the fastest growing sports. Ride in the carriage or drive yourself.

The nearby Newtown Textile Museum is a fine example of a typical 19th C weaving shop. Guests staying in this quality holiday cottage, interested in social history, will find a visit here fascinating.

The Welsh Quilts at Lampeter, Llanybyther, and Llanidloes is also an attraction.
A wide and wonderful spectrum of antique Welsh quilts sourced in Wales and worldwide showcased in a beautiful purpose-built gallery in the old town hall Lampeter. Jen Jones also has shops selling old and antique quilts and blankets in Llanidloes and Llanybyther.

The thrilling outdoor activity centre for the adrenaline junkies out there is also found in Dolgellau. The Dolgellau area consists of mountain crags around Cader Idris, the Rhingos, Craig Cywarch and the Arans. Satnav users please note the postcode will get you to the Snowdonia National Parks office in Eldon Square, Dolgellau.
