Beechwood Cottage is a Ligonier original - nestled in a real storybook forest - and a place of wonder, beauty and serenity in a days-gone-by wooded setting. During Covid-19 we have made a few additions to our (already) high standards for cleaning and disinfecting for everyone's peace of mind. House is equipped with HVAC HEPA-Filtration and UV Light sanitizing system. Enjoy an artistic, charming, wooded retreat. Maximum number of guests is six. This is a non-smoking, no pet property. Thank you!

The space
Local owners make a difference! We have been part of this community for almost 25 years. The Park was home full time for 22 years and we still live nearby. We care about your experience, we care about our beautiful community and we care for this special house as helpful, hands-on, local owners.

Beechwood Cottage was once an artist's home and studio...and it is an eclectic, artistic, inviting and relaxing retreat awaiting your arrival. Your visit to Beechwood Cottage will awaken your creative spirit and recharge your soul with art and nature's wonder. Read our reviews and you'll quickly see we have always maintained the highest cleaning standards. We want you to know we are taking turnover cleaning protocols very seriously. The cottage is equipped with HEPA air filtration and the air ducts contain a UV HVAC Air purifying lamp system. This is the same kind of UV system found in hospitals and restaurants.

Our cottage has always been thoroughly cleaned after each guest departure. So, we're able to follow our standard cleaning procedure with only a few additional, but important, enhancements. Decorative pillows and some shared amenities - shampoo, conditioner, body wash - have all been removed for the indefinite future in an effort to reduce the amount of items that are shared between guests. Liquid hand soap, dish soap and dishwasher detergent are still provided.

Each surface, knob, switch or shared space is cleaned and then sprayed with disinfectant for a second sensitization. The floors and other horizontal surfaces are all washed with a Lysol soap mix. Textiles and soft surfaces are sprayed with a suitable surface disinfectant (Lysol or equivalent) As always we'll continue to use bleach to clean the bathrooms and shower. As much as we like having them, we've removed the decorative pillows until we feel like it's smart to put them back. And you may see some streaks from time to time on surfaces that would otherwise be shiny...some of the stronger cleaners we are using leave a streak from time to time.

This house is a true Ligonier original and reflects our 22 years as full time residents of Laurel Mountain. We've been providing short term visitor stays for nearly 10 years and we love sharing our cottage, and this community, with visitors from around the world who are looking for a change from the ordinary that's elegant, unexpected, welcoming and inviting. It's a little bit of art, a whole lot of love and one of a kind around every corner.

Your inspiration will begin when you enter and enjoy the hand-painted details of the large enclosed front porch. As you step through the sliding interior door, you'll be delighted by unexpected and expansive, beamed ceilings in the great room. In fall and winter, (October 1 to April 1) enjoy one of the home's two working fireplaces - the first a massive, floor to ceiling wood burning beauty (we'll start you off with a box of seasoned firewood) made of hand cut sandstone and a second in the cozy den and featuring the instant, easy charm of gas firelogs.

As you explore the house, you'll find a fully equipped kitchen, private spaces for quiet reading or contemplation, a rustic farm table ready to host your new family memories, a great outdoor space (deck has furniture May 1 - October 31), private, fenced yard and a fun and delighting mix of cottage antiques, original art and one of a kind style.

Beechwood Cottage's three bedrooms feature views of nature's beauty from every vantage point, in every season. Be sure to check out the intricate hand paintings on walls and floors and faux-paint finish of the master bathroom vanity - magically transformed from plain wood to curly, burled maple.

We enjoy traveling around the world. From the Mexican kitchen tiles (carried back from Tijuana), to the intricate and intriguing decoupage window cornices, or a framework of seashells gathered from beaches around the world - and much more - the delightful details around every corner our cottage will excite, engage and inspire the creative you.

The interior of Beechwood Cottage was not bought in a big box store. It continues to evolve and has been created and curated to reflect us, our love of craftsmanship, original art and our journeys and inspirations from our own travels to many corners of the globe. Travel that has grown our world, opened our eyes yet always led us home to this beautiful spot in the historic Ligonier valley.

Some aspects of the house are seasonal; we don't want you to be disappointed. So please know: inside fireplaces are available from October 1 to April 1. Deck furniture and the gas grill are available starting in early May, weather permitting, until October. And central air conditioning (cooling) is not available during the heating season - typically the same as the fireplace season.

Where you’ll be

Laughlintown, Pennsylvania, United States

Our neighborhood is one of the most unusual in the area. The first building (the sales office) in Laurel Mountain park was erected in 1926. The houses, originally summer vacation homes, were mostly built in the 1930s and 1940s, before and after WWII, as the lots were sold. Over time most of the houses have been converted to full time living. We moved into "The Park" as full time residents in 1996. It may be hard to believe, but there are about 90 houses, almost all dating to the mid 1930s - 40s, tucked under, around and through the trees.

Each cottage is as unique as the person who built it and our guests have told us they love walking through our two miles of gravel roads and admiring the diversity and charm of the community. It's a neighborhood unlike any other and we think you'll enjoy it as much as we do. We lived in the park full time for 22 years and have offered our rental cottage to guests for nearly ten years - and counting.

We are Christen and Tom Mizikar, owners of Beechwood Cottage in the historic Ligonier Valley of Pennsylvania and Beachwood Punaluu in beautiful Hawaii. We have been providing vacation rental stays since before "Airbnb" was a verb! In our many years of hosting vacation guests, we've learned how to help you connect, relax, enjoy and experience two different, unique and special places. Our cottage has an authenticity, style and setting that makes it special - from the 18th century chairs at the table to the giant stone fireplace to painstakingly hand-painted floors and hand-made draperies...we welcome you to respite under the shade of tall oak, hemlock, ash and poplar trees. Our condo is in just as unique location along the last undeveloped coast in all of Hawaii. We love to share the star filled skies, black sand beach and tall palm trees blowing in the tradewinds. Sit on the lanai and listen for the sound of the waves crashing into black lava outcroppings...look as far as one may see and fill your eyes with nature's beauty at Punalu'u, Ninole Cove or all along the Ka'u coast. When we travel, we have high expectations for both destination and accommodation. We wouldn't have you stay in anything less than perfect for us - and we hope you'll find either (or both!) to be just what you are looking for in a short term lodging experience.
