The cottage (casita) is in a gated community, quiet and safe. Casita is 6 minutes from downtown Atenas. The perpetual spring-like weather boasts daytime highs of 75-84 degrees F and night time lows of 65 F; in a word…perfect. The quaint central park is the heart of Atenas. The small town charm offers an open air feria (farmers market) every Friday morning as well as modern supermarkets, bakeries, hardware stores, drugstores, restaurants, internet café's, video stores, bicycle shops, chiropractors, dentists, lawyers, gift stores, beauty shops and more. You’ll fall in love with the warm and friendly people of Atenas.
Bus service between Atenas, San Jose and Alajuela is frequent, comfortable, safe and inexpensive. Taxis are also quite reasonable; the fare to Atenas central from the house is just $5.
Robert, the owner will provide you with a custom digital map to the house and directions in English and Spanish before your arrival in Costa Rica. Magda, the manager will also gladly arrange airport pickup if needed, for a reasonable charge.
Other Things to Note
The casita is at the top of a hill, 300 meters from Finca Huetares, a mini-resort that offers two swimming pools, a hot tub, tennis court, miniature golf and a restaurant.
The Costa Rican greeting, “Pura Vida” epitomizes the local philosophy. It means literally, “Pure Life,” referring to the shared experience living in a land where nature is beautiful, relaxing and unspoiled. Many locals also say “Pura Vida” instead of good bye. Wishing you a “beautiful day”. We invite you to come and stay with us for a delightful tropical vacation in paradise. It will be our pleasure to assist you in making your stay with us one of your best vacation choices ever.
No pets, no smoking inside the house.
First, the view from the casita is outstanding-one of the best views in Costa Rica in our opinion. The casita was a perfect size for the two of us and while not a luxurious place, it was very adequate for our needs. We loved walking down the hill and around the spacious grounds of the resort close to the casita. We saw lots of iguanas, birds, including humming birds and even a sloth!
Our host provided us with great information about the casita, the town and the area prior to our visit. The bilingual onsite manager helped us find local transportation and answered our questions about the town. The walk to town was about an hour, which we did numerous times. You will be using taxis a lot if you don't like to walk. Atenas as a great place to spend the month and a good location as a base. The minor problems we had were cheerfully addressed.
We would go back to the casita again!
Robert communicates well and responds congenially and in a timely fashion. This beautiful location is well up on the hillside, doable in a short, brisk steep climb....kind of invigorating! but easier access with your own transportation. Worth the elevation and view. Yes, breathtaking. The cottage is quaint, sufficient with a spectacular front room walled with glass. The sliders open to enjoy it as a massive front porch or enclosed like a beautiful 'observation deck'. There is virtually unlimited hot water with decent water pressure. The kitchen is fairly compact but there are several cabinets and some counter space. We appreciated the microwave and toaster oven which speed up food prep for quick snacks and lunches. His manager, Magda is available onsite for some guidance and occasional trips into town. The elevation affords a chance to watch soaring birds, hummingbirds going blossom to blossom in the neighboring trees and catching sight of some rarer treats! Night views are uncommonly beautiful and good for the soul! This is getting away from it all.
