Interaction with Guests
Your caretaker Ernesto (also know as "Sandfly") and his son Luciano will fill your belly with their delicious Belizean cooking and help you with your every need.
We are in the Northern section of Belize - Orange Walk District - Off the beaten path! - About 1 hour from the Ocean on a large fresh water lake called Honey Camp Lagoon.
The name "Honey Camp" comes from pirate folklore. Pirates were rumored to hide gold here and neighboring Doubloon Bank Lagoon. While we haven't seen of any evidence of pirates, much has been found that suggests Maya had occupied the lake for over 500 years. Now the lake serves as a picnic spot for locals and a private vacation spot for you! You will be the only tourist you see and the locals are very welcoming and friendly.
Wake up to a cacophony of birds, and let the sunset draw you into a peaceful slumber. Enjoy the natural beauty of Honey Camp Lagoon and the surrounding bush, visit the friendly community of Orange Walk, or take a trek to revel in some Mayan ruins.
Staying at Honey Camp Ranch you will have a unique and personal "off the path" and "off the grid" experience with a close connection to peace and nature.
We provide pick-up and drop-off for Free in Orange Walk Town at the beginning and end of your stay.
OWT To/From HCR: Each Way = $30bz ($15us)
Pick-up or drop-off between Orange Walk Town area and Honey Camp Ranch in our Land Rover.
Private ride anywhere else in our Land Rover for guest is $2bz ($1us) per kilometer (the odometer in our Rover is in kilometers).
For longer trips - We highly recommend taking advantage of the efficient bus system Belize has available - it's fast, cheap, and better for the environment.
Also, if you wish to have your own car, we can also assist in connecting you with a small family run locally owned business that does car rentals in Orange Walk Town. They can even pick you up at the BZE airport. If you plan to drive yourself, please ask about current road conditions to Honey Camp - The conditions can vary greatly depending on the season.
Other Things to Note

No smoking or food inside the cabana. To avoid attracting insects and critters, please do not bring any foods into the cabana. You may store any food or beverage items you wish in our kitchen area.
Matt and Sharon took great care of us on the Honey Camp Ranch. We were able to use their bikes and boats to explore around the area. Luciano cooked for us the whole time and we couldn't have asked for any better Belizean cuisine. He definitely made some of the best fry jacks we had during our stay in Belize along with everything else that came out of his amazing little kitchen.
The whole time we were at Honey Camp we felt right at home, and we were able to relax and soak up the beautiful scenery. Just make sure to bring enough bug repellent along and you'll be set for your time in Belize.
Ahhh, Honey Camp! This place will forever have a very special place in our hearts!!! First, the space, so cool!!! Very clean and the pictures are very accurate, you are staying in a huge screened in tree house. You can lay in the hammocks in the space and see the wonders of the stars all night. And the stars... I have seen the sky from many vantage points around earth, and this was by far the clearest we had ever seen. Matt and his family are so kind and are great company. DEFINITELY get the meal plan!! (And be aware this will be the best food you will have in Belize, so everywhere after will not meet your expectations when you compare it). Luciano, his cook and right hand man, is lovely. We learned so much about the Mayan culture and really feel blessed to have stayed. We did the tour for Lamminai, very good! We also enjoyed the use of their canoe and bikes. Their dogs are AWESOME too!!
We had a super time at Honey Camp Ranch - a real highlight of our trip to Belize. The cabana is such a treat - wonderful views of a gorgeous lagoon, peace and quiet, and amazing food courtesy of Luciano (and Matt as sous chef!). We had a wonderful 4 days with Matt, Sharon and beautiful little Tetra, exploring, relaxing and enjoying all Honey Camp has to offer. Great place, great food, great hosts.
Our stay at Honey Camp was the experience of a lifetime. We visited Honey Camp for the first week of our honeymoon. It was the PERFECT place for my husband and I to disconnect from the world and bond with each other. Matt, Sharon and Tetra were fun to be around (the few times they popped up) and Luciano is the best around! He is probably the nicest person you could meet and his food was amazing . I think our mouths were watering with anticipation with each meal. The cabana is spacious and comfortable Even with the screened wall, it still feels very private because there is no one around.
Being at Honey Camp was heavenly. We enjoyed every single second of our trip. We usually have a "one and done" policy for visiting places but Honey Camp is going to be the exception to this rule! Friendly faces, comfortable and safe atmosphere, delicious, fresh food and the beautiful backdrop of the lagoon make this place a must visit!
If you are looking for something a bit off the beaten path, Honey Camp Ranch cant be beat! The cabana is fantastic, the people are amazing and the cooking is out of this world. a truly unique experience which i would highly recommend.
We spent a week here in the middle of our month in Belize and it was great to have a chance to just relax. Luciano is a great cook ( best fry jacks we had!) and Matt made wonderful ceviche. We really enjoyed getting to know Sharon, Matt and Tetra a little bit. We did the trip to Lamanai and Luciano took us to island bit mostly we just kicked back and enjoyed being there
We found that Honey Camp Ranch fulfilled all of the positive comments which led to our going there. The entire front of the cabana provides a 20' high panoramic view of the beautiful lake. It has comfortable beds, hardwood floors and a nice tiled bathroom. No electric lights. Just kerosene lamps and flashlights, so for us it was early to bed and wake with the birds...and we just loved it. Matt and Sharon are wonderful hosts. Fun, kind-hearted and very knowledgeable...to say the least, and their little daughter, Tetra is just adorable. All of your meals will be prepared and eaten at the lakeside cabana...delicious and varied food in an amazing setting, and they have good wi-fi right there so that you can check your e-mails, etc. with no problem. In case you're worried...bugs weren't a problem either. It was a very rich and rewarding experience for us.
