About this listing
A Unique and Spectacularly Secluded contemporary home in a forest on a river. This dream home is more breathtaking than the photos suggest! Please check out our reviews on our individual room listings! Inistioge 5 mins, Kilkenny 30, Dublin 90
A little bit of very private and exclusive Ireland could be yours for your vacation!
The Boat House was only recently built, but lovingly conceived over 20 years by a former Chairman of the Crafts Council of Ireland and his equally brilliant wife (Hi Mum ;-))
Situated right on the River Nore and arranged over 3 floors, this home oozes contemporary style whilst offering comfort and unparalleled views (and salmon fishing!) up and down the river.
The floor to ceiling sliding doors in the living room open onto an elevated deck shaped like the bow of a ship after which the house was named.
The Boat House is available as an entire 5/6 bedroom house, or as two completely separate untis at extremely attractive rates.
Access all areas! Forest included :-) A home from home!
Interaction with Guests
We'll do everything we can to make it the highlight of your holiday.
The term 'home from home' is thrown around quite a lot but that is precisely what we aim to offer. Are you looking for a place where you immediately feel at home, can kick off your shoes and grab a beer from the fridge? Come visit us, and hopefully you'll laugh at whatever inappropriate joke I've made :-)
I made it to No.1 on Tripadvisor for my previous B&B in France and I aim to offer at least as good a level of service for you at the Boat House!
If it's calm serene and special Ireland that you're after I am certain that you'll love The Boat House!
The Boat House is situated on the River Nore in the Coillte Woodstock Estate of
about 1000 acres, adjoining the Woodstock Gardens and Arboretum
(website hidden) of about 50 acres with over four miles of walks - all
The River Nore is well known for its salmon and trout fishing, and there's
fishing in front of our house (with licence). Mount Juliet Hotel with its wonderful grounds and
championship golf course is within a twenty minute drive as is Gowran Park race
course and Golf Club.
The charming and picturesque village of Inistioge with its tree-lined square and
pretty churches has been the setting for a number of feature films and is a
popular tourist destination. Its facilities include a post office, shop, primary
school and four restaurants/cafes and three traditional pubs. You'll love it!
There's public transport to Inistioge Village twice a day from Kilkenny City, and if you're arriving during 'normal' hours I'll come and collect you as it's only a 5 min drive (or a 20 min walk through the forest). A quick run to the shops before I get you in the Village and you'll be set for a few nights! Have a few beers in the pubs or grab a coffee and a bite in one of the cafes. Once at the house there are miles of walks and hikes or cycles through the forest, and Woodstock Park is just a short hike up the hill from the house. If you have a car there is so much to do within 30 mins including 2 michelin star restaurants, a Jack Nicklaus-designed gold course and Kilkenny City itself...
Other Things to Note
At the square in Inistioge by the sign posts for L4216 Tullagher, & Woodstock Park, set your speedometer to zero.
Follow the signs up the hill after half a kilometer, take left through the granite and iron Woodstock Estate Gates into the demesne.
Drive a further 1.2kms until you reach the red sign and barrier for the entrance to the car park of Woodstock Gardens on your right.
Beside the entrance to a private house is a sharp left turn take this pass the Tighe Estate sign and drive down hill on a dirt boreen/road.
After 200 meters you will pass "Sylvan House” on your left.
Keep going on down, you will pass a cattle byre on your left.
Keep going left, after 2.8kms on your speedometer from Inistioge you will see a new house below on your right with a glass roof light.
That is the Boat House
Rob met us at the Boat House for check-in and was extremely welcoming. The Boat House was perfect for our needs- plenty of room, bright and airy and right on the river where we can view the bird and other wild life. It has all of the modern conveniences and everything works. It is good value for money both from a location and price perspective. We had our daughter and two grandchildren (8 and 4) with us. The town of Inistioge is convenient to Kilkenny, New Ross, and is less than 2 hours from Dublin and such sights as the Rock of Cashel making it an ideal setting for exploring SE Ireland without having to deal with hordes of tourists every time you turn around. I would strongly recommend it for folk like us, grandparents who want an ideal setting for having family visitations.
Words simply can't describe the Boat House experience. Amazing architecture, a perfectly beautiful and serene location and a host that had us laughing right from the start. Rob's Boat House is a dream come true - as I wrote in his guest book: if only the place were for sale!!!
This is the perfect spot to unwind and relax, all while enjoying one of the most beautiful (in my opinion) areas of Ireland.
Rob makes his guests feel welcome and at home right from the start and he's just great fun to talk to. I could not recommend this place more!!
We stayed at The Boat House with a group of 10 people. A great place at a wonderfull location near the river Nore.
Large bedrooms, lovely beds, bathroom en suit and a kitchen with all the facillities you can wish for. Rob gave us a warm welcome and allowed us to use everyting in the house including his computer and content of the cup boards. Not only during our stay in Inistiogne but also in advance Rob was always willing to help planning our trip and to make our stay as comfertable as possible. 'what you see is what you get' counts for both Rob and The Boat House.
A place that offers you everything a vacation needs; quietness , fishing, dining, sightseeing, hiking....and more.
On behalf of the whole group we can highly recommend The Boat House for a unforgettable visit to Ireland.

About the Host, Rob
Mischievous, Adventurous, Ambitious and often Ludicrous ;-) I built a B&B business in France and got to No1 on tripadvisor in our category (Specialty Accommodation), and whether or not I can get to No 1 in Ireland I don't know but I'm sure as heck going to try! Please come visit - you'll love the place, if not necessarily the owner ;-) and I'll do what I can to make it special for you!
Things I like: Coffee Wine and Beer, Sunshine, Chilli Peppers, Happy Guests, Cycling, Cars, Taking the Mickey.
Things I don't like: Hangovers (They don't mix with a B&B!), can't think of anything else for the moment :-)
