As one enters the penthouse the main area opens up to an area of 18 meters in length by 10 meters wide (wider than two terrace houses) there is a full sized snooker / pool table, a lounge area seating 8, a good quality sound system, digital radio, CD player, amplifier with two excellent speakers.

The kitchen, lounge, snooker table are in this main open plan area.

.Two huge bedrooms with antique king size teak beds with custom made firm mattresses. Pillows and Linen supplied with mosquito nets. There is also two queen sized mattresses available for children or additional guests.
There is more than enough area to place the mattresses.

The Master Bedroom is 5 m x 8 m,(as large as a studio apartment i.e. 40 sq. ms ) a king size antique teak Chinese bed.
There is a 40 inch digital HD TV system with speakers and a DVD system. Cable available if requested, additional fee The bedroom has a industrial designed metal clothing rack and shelf structure 'wardrobe' covered with sheer black curtains, 3 meters in length x 2.4 meters in height. Wall to wall artworks. There is also a 1950's two meter desk for laptop / computer / office in the bedroom.

The second bedroom: Completely separate space
Upper level studio, the area is 5 m x 6.5 m,with another King Sized Antique teak bed. A cloth covered Wardrobe and a Digital Television with a DVD player.
.From the studio one can access the 110 square meter wooden deck that has stunning city skyline views.
Great for entertaining summer or winter.
The penthouse has artworks throughout ,akin to living in an Art Gallery.

.The Kitchen is open plan and is fully equipped, it has a wide black granite bench top / splash backs ( 6 meters in length) with quality European appliances, Smeg 5 gas Burners, Smeg Oven, Double sink, Smeg Micro wave oven,a Portacel Water Purifier,no need to purchase bottled water, Pantry and loads of cupboard space, there two additional portable granite bench tops. Note photos.
Quality cook wear, wok, caste iron pots and pans, rice cooker, toaster and all the utensil, plates, bowls etc.
There are two eating / dining areas;
Adjoining the kitchen there is an enclave which has a 1950's cafe table with two seating benches. Seats 4.
Window 2 ms x 1.4 meters
There is also an internal Balcony area, that has large metal laced glass sliding windows ,3.5 m x 2 m which faces the leafy tree lined street on the western side of the building,(just off the main open living area near the kitchen),there is a 'raw silk' granite topped table with seating for 4.

Sea Fantasy Bathroom.
The bathroom / main bedroom en suite,fully accessible to other guests. Luxurious and spacious 3.5 m x 5.5 m
Enormous Bath built with hand-made sea blue / green toned tiles in the shape of a whale - 2.5 mts x 1.5 meters.
Sea animals - spouting brass sculptured dolphins, fish, sharks , two seahorse metal and glass sliding doors. Sea shell hand basin set into a rare large granite base carved into the shape of a large fish which sits atop of a metal boat hull.

  • First, I will start off with the good: the loft is very well located, just a 20-25 minute walk to some of the more central areas of Sydney. It also has a large terrace off the upper level, and there is a semi enclosed balcony off the main level. However, there were quite a few negatives to the apartment. When we arrived, the caretaker advised us that the owner had left behind his cat, and that we would need to feed the cat once a day. Nothing was mentioned to us previously about having to care for a cat (what if one of us were allergic to cats???) Secondly, the bedding was really sub par. The pillows were completely yellowed, old sheets, one mattress was hard as a wooden board, the 2nd mattress was slightly less firm but had a cigarette burn hole in it. I also spotted 2 cockroaches while we stayed. In general, I would say if you are a budget traveler OK with "slumming it," then this loft will do you just fine. However, if you are a bit more particular about where you stay, I would advise looking elsewhere. Also, there is no wifi, and for the price, I believe an owner ought to provide it for guests to use.

    Thank you for your suggestions for me to make improvements to my apartment.
    1.the firm bed.The description clearly states that is a " firm" mattress.I have a severe back issue so I am in need of a very firm mattress. But I fully accept your point. I have recently purchased a slim soft mattress n its now atop of the firm mattress. I am surprised that you did not replace it wit the additional mattresses that were available.
    The stained pillows (2) I have purchased three new pillows.There is now 9 pillows in the house for guests discretion.
    The cat. It was booked in a cat boarding place. Mark the manager suggested you guys take care. One of you guys said yes. I wish they DIDN'T agree, she was booked in, as has been the case in the past..You are correct in what your review noted.
    Your statement about the place being dusty. The location is near major transport links but unfortunately dust is on ongoing thing. Add the huge open plan space, you are bound to get dust (an Italian industrial vacuum cleaner, mops, broom and cleaning solutions were provided for guests to use) especially if you leave the large balcony windows OPEN. I will offer future guests a professional cleaning service, every 5 days but at the guests discretion with consideration to their privacy. The cigarette hole on the loft bed / mattress. This has been rectified. It must have been a previous guest. Cockroaches. Sorry this Surry Hills one gets an OCCASIONAL bug. Surry Hills houses are built on a sandstone base n Australia is a country that has bugs it's a fact of life and unavoidable but manageable. I prefer to use non toxic natural repellants..All your points are acceptable but I don't agree with your "slummin" remark, previous. GUESTS HAVE NOT THOUGHT THAT.

  • Stayed at Michael's place for 11 nights over the New Year period.
    Positives: great location for cafes/bars/access to the city and public transport. Huge amount if space. Fantastic deck with city views. Big pool table. Interesting artwork. Great value for money for the location and time of year. Michael was flexible and his friends were great for check in / check out / questions. Kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans etc. Quiet street.
    Negatives: place could be cleaner, a handful of cockroaches spotted during our stay (though I'm sure that's not uncommon in the warm wet weather). Could do with more glassware to drink from.
    Overall: Was great for our group and I'd do it again

  • This apartment is located perfectly to visit Sydney. It is less than 10 min walk to the CBD. The apartment itself is very big and fully equiped (even with a pool billard table). Definately a good place to be in Sydney.
