About this listing
Sunny, spacious bedroom with private bathroom in modern East Austin home. Cute, quiet, and convenient neighborhood: 15 minutes from the airport and Circuit of the Americas; easy access to I-35; close to downtown, Lady Bird Lake, and tons of great food and entertainment.
Includes high-speed wifi and full access to kitchen and laundry.
Your bedroom (150 sq. ft.) has a full bed, a vintage desk/dresser combo, bedside tables (with lamps on both sides), a small closet, and plenty of electrical outlets. The bedroom is at the far end of the hall from ours, so privacy isn't an issue.
Your bathroom has a huge shower (room for two), and the usual things (commode, sink). We have a tankless water heater so you will never run out of hot water when showering.
Bed linens, towels, soap, and shampoo are provided.
You'll be given a code to the front door (keyless entry) so you can check in any time after noon, and come and go as you like.
You're welcome to hang out downstairs. There's a living room with plenty of seating, a kitchen and dining area that are good for taking care of business, a den in the back with a comfy sofa and TV (Netflix on the Apple TV), and a deck off the den with plenty of outdoor seating. We also have a collection of games (cards, dice, board games, etc.) that you're welcome to.
We have a workshop/office/storage space off the living room that we usually keep closed if we're not in it, but that's the only part of the downstairs that's not fair game.
Interaction with guests
We both primarily work from home and at least one of us is usually around. We're fairly laid back and mostly keep to ourselves, but we're happy to have a chat or give restaurant and bar recommendations (there are tons of both nearby) or point you to some of Austin's interesting spots and cultural events.
Our dog is a very laid back, quiet (lazy) retired racedog who spends most of his time sleeping. He'll probably ignore you, but he is docile and friendly if you want to give him a pet.
Great east side location, just east of downtown (1.5 miles from Convention Center) and Mexican American Cultural Center, close to bars and restaurants on Cesar Chavez, East 6th street, and Rainey Street, and much more.
We're 2 blocks from Lady Bird Lake and Festival Gardens and 1 block from the bike/hike/run trail that circles the lake. There are places that rent kayaks and SUPs (stand-up paddleboards) along the trail.
If you're driving, on-street parking is never a problem and no permits are required.
We're close to several bus lines and walking distance to CapMetro lightrail train (Plaza Saltillo station).
There's no Über in Austin, but there are several other rideshare services: Fasten, Fare, RideAustin, InstaRyde.
Other things to note
ALL ARE WELCOME regardless of your religious or political beliefs, race or ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, or citizenship status.
Also, the tap water is drinkable. (That seems to be a concern for people coming from other countries.)
No smoking indoors, though you're welcome to smoke on the deck downstairs.
You're welcome to use the washer and dryer while you're here. Only High Efficiency (HE) laundry detergent (provided) should be used.
Please also feel free to use the kitchen. Kitchen includes refrigerator (of course), stove, oven, microwave, toaster oven, dishwasher, hot water kettle.
The dog is not allowed in the guest room or behind the island in the kitchen. If you see him in either of these places, please tell him "No" firmly and shoo him out of the area. He's good about respecting the boundaries but may get curious.
We love to travel and have lived all over the US and Europe before finally settling in Austin. We don't travel as much as we used to, so we entertain ourselves locally with art, theater, live music, and good food.
