The space

Enjoy our unique property surrounded soaring pine trees and vineyards. A charming property with two suites, one upstairs with a living room with fireplace, kitchen, bath and two bedrooms, the other downstairs with one bedroom, bath and living room. Very private place with magical stars at night, large balconies and decks for entertaining, private paths for hiking our 17 acres across lands once occupied by Indians and now graced by bluebirds and hummingbirds and a seasonal creek. But while you are in solitude at home, you are only a stone's throw from the best restaurants, vineyards and spas of Napa and Sonoma. The closest town is St. Helena, fifteen minutes away coursing through some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards of Napa. Down the road, find Yountville (home of the French Laundry and many more amazing eateries) and Calistoga (think mud baths and cowboy ambience). You will be greeted by our housekeeper and local wines we love, and lists of restaurants and fun things to do, from hiking to horseback riding, golf, tennis, spas and ocean walks along the Pacific. We hope you have a magical stay!

We had a great stay. Ann's cabin was the perfect respite from city life. We loved the wrap around porches and outdoor living space, the charcoal grill with charcoal provided, and stargazing at night. The location is awesome -- don't miss wine tasting at Smith Madrone! It is in the woods, with owls hooting at night, and yes, mosquitoes, so maybe pack some bug spray! The water has been mentioned in several reviews. Yes, it is well water, so does have a slight sulphur smell, especially in when taking a hot shower. But the hosts also provided bottled water. A water filtration system would be a great addition to the property. We cooked all of our meals at the cabin, and found the kitchen to be well stocked, especially with many styles of dishes and glassware. (Serious home chefs might want to pack along a sharp chef's knife, a paring knife, and a heavy saute pan.) The house was perfect for our two families, with our kids sharing the downstairs bedroom and the adults enjoying wine upstairs after bed time. I'm already day dreaming about when I can go back -- I didn't want to leave!

Pictures are deceiving. The house is little more than a cabin, worn & run down. When we arrived at the house, there was no running water. The water has a strong mineral smell which has left stain on the shower & toilet. The shower curtain liner needed replaced. The furniture is worn & stained. The gas grill was rusted out & wouldn't start. There were no dish cloths or dish towels to be found. No garbage bags. No cable tv, there was a direct tv box but no card. The "path" to the top of the property was overgrown & basically nonexistent. The groundskeeper was at the house when we arrived & he was able to get the water running. When we contacted the host re the grill, he did replace it with a charcoal grill. We were told to use bath towels & paper towels in lieu of kitchen towels. Value for the money definitely not there.

Response from Ann:
Our home is a lovely cottage in the mountains between Napa and Sonoma, which has been recently upgraded. The water problem was fixed immediately, the grill replaced, and other issues tended to. We apologized for the inconvenience but are confident that those seeking a country retreat in the wine country will have a great experience.

Great space. It has all the essentials. You will have no service on your phone so prepare to do everything over wifi!

The location of this property is not great. It is priced as a premium property and is not. The pictures are deceiving.

The home was situated at the top of the hills and was very nice. We were happy with the secluded nature of the property and charm of the overall house. The property and amenities were exactly what was provided in the listing. The owner was very helpful with directions to the property, things to do and see in the area, etc. We would definitely stay here in the future. Thank you for a wonderful time!

A real cabin in the woods!!! The house has a rustic kind of charm. the views are pretty. However, the 5-7 mile twisty road to the house is challenging and scary, if your are not from here, a designated driver a must!!! The house uses well water, that means sulphur rusty smelling water. We found it very difficult to wash ourselves and the dishes with it. We smelled of pennies our entire stay. The outdoor area needs some upgrade, the furniture is old and rusty. there was a storm the last night of our stay , there was a leak from the ceiling into the bathroom , water was everywhere. Overall, The House has a nice cozy feel to it but needs some serious repair and up keep, and definitely a new water filtration system! Had we known about the water, we would not have stayed here.

Pat and Ann have a beautiful home! They're wonderful hosts before and after -- you can look forward to detailed descriptions about how to get there, suggestions for food and wineries, and a beautiful homey ambiance.
