Luxury Landmark Converted Stable

House - Entire home/apt · Waverly Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11238, United States

The Space

Award-winning landmark conversion, retaining many of the original elements of the old carriage house and stable: open, chapel-like, entirely private, 2400 sq ft home. Modern, but very cosy. Extremely rare space, definitely one-of-a-kind. On a quiet mews street in one of the most vibrant, beautiful and most convenient landmark neighborhoods in New York City: Clinton Hill/Fort Greene. It's a special home, but please note ... it's a home, not a party space. The stable offers a rare opportunity to live luxuriously in your own home in New York (albeit for a time), to hang out, wander, cook, listen to music, entertain a few friends, retreat, sleep. It's a way to fully experience everything New York has to offer, whilst having a unique sanctuary to come home to. You won't be dealing with piles of our stuff, wardrobes full of clothes and shoes, knick-knacks and family heirlooms. That stuff is at our house in the Catskills. The style and furnishings are geared to be cosy, clean, comfortable and minimal. The house will feel like yours when you are in it. It is free-standing, so - unusually for New York - no neighbour noise at all from above, below or either side.

We seldom do single nights, unless they happen to fit between two other bookings. Small day-time events such as dinners or showers that require check-in earlier than 2 pm or later check-out later than 11 am would be subject to a 2 night charge.

The rate for a week includes 1 free night. So 7 nights for the price of 6.

3 large private bedrooms. All have large windows and great light.

Bedroom 1 - master suite, queen bed, huge private bathroom, shower and separate tub, large flat-screen cable TV, wireless internet, walk-in closets.

Bedroom 3 - large double bedroom, shares full bathroom (with shower/tub) with bedroom 2. Tivoli Audio global internet radio and bluetooth iPod station, wireless internet, walk in closet.

Combined, bedrooms sleep a maximum of 6 people, which is our capacity - other than the baby bed which can be put out on request (bedding for the cot is not provided). So 6 plus a baby. We don't sleep people on couches, in closets, hammocks inflatable beds or strapped to walls with duct tape.

All bedrooms come with Muji sheets and turkish towels. Bathrooms all have great showers.

There is a third full bathroom downstairs (with its own shower) on the main floor. So three bedrooms, three bathrooms.

1200 sq foot ground floor living area, with double stable doors that open onto onto the street, for indoor/outdoor feel. Twin huge leather couches, tuned piano and 13 foot farmhouse table milled from the original main beam of the house. The old bricks from the outside of the stable have been repurposed to the inside. The table between the couches is made from salvaged bowling alley lanes. The shelves are recycled wooden crates, the bell came from a church.

Working fireplace.

Gourmet kitchen, well-stocked with equipment for cooking, including stand-mixer, blender, good stove and oven, dishwasher, toaster, saucepans, kitchen knives, all expected utensils. More than enough glasses, bowls, plates, knives, forks, etc., and a cheerful supply of Table on Ten teatowels and PG Tips.

Radiant floor heating on both floors, a/c throughout. Poured concrete floors downstairs, Siberian Oak upstairs. Washer/dryer in the basement. Convenient Nest thermostats.

High speed wi-fi throughout the space, powerful Parrot by Starck bluetooth music. Flat-screen cable TV in the master bedroom.

Great for families, friends, family reunions, photo shoots, calm events (shoots and events at different rate). However, we no longer allow parties unless they are our own.

Easy on-street parking. A and C trains one block away, G two blocks away, short walk to 2/3/4/5/N/R/Q/D/B ... minutes into Manhattan or over to Williamsburg.

Very secure and extremely quiet at night.

Amazing area for restaurants: Roman's, Franny's, Bar Corvo, Chuko, Aita, James, Speedy Romeo's, Saraghina, Walter Foods, Brooklyn Farm, Locanda Vini & Olii, Ici, Smoke Joint, etc.. Great bars, food shopping at Provisions and Market on Greene, as well as Fort Greene and Grand Army Farmers Markets. Wine from Greene Grape, Olivino.

Very short walk to Brooklyn Academy of Music, BAM Harvey, Mark Morris Dance, BAM Rose Cinemas, Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, Fort Greene Park, Prospect Park, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Library and (near legendary) Brooklyn Flea.

10 minute stroll to the The Barclays Center, home of the Brooklyn Nets.

Also available for events and photo shoots, upon arrangement (different rates). Events class as gatherings, dinner parties, supper clubs, etc., that involve more than the six people staying.

And it has it's own website ... which maybe fills the story out a bit better - search on line for Bell End Brooklyn.

  • Wonderful venue for a family gathering in Brooklyn! Julian was quick to respond to our request and Kit was fabulous about arranging the key drop-off at a convenient time. The radiant heat floors were a treat for the toes and the wonderful kitchen in the great room easily accommodated 11 for a big family dinner before we headed out to the theater district. The couches pictured were a wonderful place to lounge and hang out. We loved our 5 night stay and will definitely come again. Easy subway and Citibike access.

  • I can't speak positively enough about the experience I had staying at Bell End a few weekends ago. Being a Brooklyn resident and therefore lacking space of my own, I was looking for a place to share with my friends for the weekend of my 21st birthday. When I stumbled upon Bell End after days of looking at cramped hotel suites that were charging $2,000+ per night, I thought it was a bit too good to be true. It didn't seem possible that such an attractive and massive loft in this city could be so inexpensive (especially when split six ways), and yet there it was!

From the get-go, Julian was extremely accommodating and accepted my request despite the fact that I made it on pretty short notice. Check-in was completely seamless. I sent my boyfriend to pick up the keys so unfortunately I never got to meet our host, but I got a report that he was extremely gracious and generous in regard to the space, encouraging us to make ourselves comfortable and help ourselves to whatever remnants of visits past (food, beer, etc) lingered in the fridge. The rest of our stay was equally great. We were given three sets of keys to make coming and going easy (though we rarely left!), and the six of us had an amazing time hanging out downstairs in the huge common space, listening to music on the bluetooth speakers, etc etc. All in all, I couldn't have asked for a better place to spend my birthday, and will absolutely be returning to Bell-End next time I'm in need of a place to spread out and relax.

  • This has been a perfect experience, I can truly recommend this house for bigger families and groups. It is spacious, everything is exactly ad described, nice and clean bedrooms and a wonderful open kitchen/studio-situation on the ground floor. 3 bathrooms make the mornings absolute relaxing and the location is wonderful - right in the middle of clinton hills, surrounded by bars, cafes, restaurants and all shopping-facilities you could neet. Very nice and easy hosts. We will return!
