Casale stupendo. Piscina fantastica. Cornice paesaggistica mozzafiato. Insomma complimenti a tutti!!! Torneremo sicuramente. Grazie.
Staying at Antico Casale was one of the best experiences of my life; sounds, cliche but it is true. My family and I arrived worn thin from the trans-Atlantic flight and 4 days of wandering Florence. Our hosts welcomed us with an immaculate apartment; we chose downstairs as there are two private bedrooms and a very nice kitchen and dining room (outdoor sitting just beyond is perfect for coffee and reading in the morning). The grounds are idealistic, you are nearly on top of a mountain in the heart of Umbria, fields and working farms surround you (olives, apricots, chestnuts are among the trees). There is a large, two level, outdoor dining area (under roof) with masonry grilling pits. We made use of these by traveling 10 minutes to the sleepy town of Umbertide for provisions (where there are supermarkets, a butcher and plenty of other shops to stock up on provisions). We spent the evenings eating with other guests (who happened to be Swedish) and having great conversations over wine and grilled food. And then there is the pool: perfectly clean and available to you all day and night. July was hot, very hot and the pool was an oasis. Our 10 year old daughter befriended Eduardo's daughter Inea and they instantly became best friends forever; their son Matteo was a joy to be around and we miss them to this day. One night, all of us staying there decided to pay 20 euros each for a meal prepared by the family. We were asked where we wanted to eat, we decided to sit outside (there is a dining room that is used specifically for these meals). We were served a delicious and filling traditional Umbrian feast which despite our numbers, we could not finish (wine was included and a generous amount served). All leftovers were boxed up and we ate them the next day for lunch. You should be aware the the spaces are not air conditioned but if you shutter and close the windows during the day, the ancient stone house holds the cool. At night, there was always a breeze to be had because of the elevation. One night, two of our daughters decided to sleep under the stars near the pool; Eduardo noticed this and turned off the pool pump so that they would not be bothered by it's sound. I can honestly say that I will always remember our stay here and would love to return at some point in the future; I miss Eduardo and his family.
Magnifico casolare in posizione altrettanto magnifica! Grande disponibilità e cortesia da parte degli ospiti. Consigliatissimo!
We stayed in Antico Casale for 2 nights and it was perfect!! Fantastic place to stay there and relax. The apartment in which we stayed had everything we need and the pool was great. We had two wonderful dinners there and from our 2 week travel across Italy I can surely say that for the great value we got, this was the cheapest dinner we had in Italy! Wonderful cooking! We were greeted by Eduardo and he was just great - extremely helpful and friendly, even if we occasionally have trouble understanding each other, the communication with him was always a pleasure.
Very friendly welcome, swimming pool in front of the Toscny landscapes / bella villa in stones
Describe Your Experience
We were greeted at the train station by the very kind and friendly Eduardo who guided us to the location up on the hill. It was quite a beautiful home. We had a lovely stay here overall! There were so many other families passing through at the same time and this made it quite fun and lively. Even when the swimming pool got quite full we had a lot of fun making up games together and having lots of laughs!
We ate one meal at the house which was quite delicious! They fried a wonderful selection of items from fresh basil, to zucchini flowers, zucchini, and much more - we highly recommend this if you get the chance. Meals can be a bit pricey though so be sure to ask carefully ahead of time about pricing and what is included. On another night we were able to bbq at the house. There are many lovely seating areas on the various sides of the house and near the pool.
We were initially in a room that ended up being a bit small for us (the extra beds were a bit small and the kids wanted more privacy instead of being in the same room as the kitchen/dining area) and the hosts were thankfully able to accommodate us and put us in a larger suite. During our nine day stay we were in two separate suites, first were up on the spacious top floor with large, quiet rooms and nice bathroom, and then later on we were downstairs in a smaller, but quite nice 2 bedroom suite with a kitchen (with a refrigerator) and nice bathroom. The front bedroom was a bit more noisy as it lies just at the bottom of the stairs and many guests pass by without realizing your sleeping room is just nearby. Nevertheless, we did okay with this.
The only real drawback is the wifi. We always select locations based upon the ability to access wifi as we like to make travel plans as we go along - perhaps research a museum or city to see the next day, or find a restaurant, or book other airbnb locations. We also need to keep in contact with our job/business back home, and this is also how we access our forwarded calls. But, unfortunately, the wifi was simply not sufficient for the number of guests staying at the house. The wifi seems to be only useable by one person at time! One way we dealt with this was to go into town each day to check our email and quickly read news, but there was not enough time for much else (planning/booking anything) and this dampened our visit a bit. Nevertheless, we took the tips of some of our fellow travelers and made a spontaneous visit to Assisi which was wonderful. Many of the guests also did this so for this we were also grateful for our very friendly companions and their great ideas!
