Ginkgo House at Winnowburrow Farm & Florals is a cozy retreat space for the nature enthusiast. Come for the summer flowers, a winter retreat, or just come to relax. The large, south-facing windows invite glorious light and views of the knight sky. Immerse yourself in nature and experience life on the farm. Guests have opportunities to schedule one-on-one sessions in advance for cut-your-own flowers and floral arranging.

The space
Ginkgo House is a "dry cabin" located above our detached garage opposite our home. This charming space has electricity, but no plumbing. (Plans are in the works for an outdoor shower in summer of 2022). The washroom is separate from the main room and comes outfitted with a vanity and sink, a 5-gallon wash-bucket w/spigot + a pump sprayer with a nozzle (pressurized water for washing dishes, etc), a pitcher & wash basin, a humanure composting toilet, and a floating wire wall shelf for extra storage/hanging clothes.

In the main room you will find a comfy queen-sized bed (lots of room beneath for suitcases, etc.), a drop-leaf table and two stools, and the kitchenette which includes a prep table, dishes, cookware, an electric burner, an electric kettle, a coffeemaker/toaster oven combo, and a mini refrigerator.

Make sure to find time to relax on the deck! There is a patio umbrella for shade and a citronella torch to keep the bugs at bay (although honestly, mosquitoes aren't bad up here).

All guests receive a welcome bouquet as long as flowers are in season, a free 1-ounce sample of goat milk soap from our friends and neighbors at EB Ranch.

Cell service is poor in our area, but guests can activate wifi calling.

Where you’ll be

Colfax, Wisconsin, United States

Our farm is located on a 311-acre property along a dead-end road that is co-owned between seven homesteads. It is biologically diverse and magically scenic. We are located only 1.5 miles from a boat launch on the beautiful Red Cedar River, which is great for kayaking or canoeing. The small town of Colfax is 10 minutes south of us. There are two antique shops, a coffee shop/cafe (inside the antique shop) and a family owned Italian restaurant, plus a couple of restaurant/pubs. The idyllic town of Sand Creek is 10 minutes north of us and has a park/pavilion, a quilt shop and great little cafe. We are a 40-minute drive from Eau Claire, a 30-minute drive from Menomonie, a 20-minute drive from Bloomer and 1.5 hours from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

During your stay

We are a fully functional cut flower farm and floral design business. One of us will usually be available to greet you, but there are many demands on and off the farm, so we try to make things as self-sufficient and clear as possible. We are always happy to answer any questions in person or via phone/text/email and will provide instructions for when and how to reach us. If you'd like a tour of the farm, please let us know in advance so we can make sure we have time available to do so during your stay. Coffee, tea, salt, pepper, herbs/spices and butter/cooking oil will be provided for making meals. We usually have cut flowers, eggs, and veggies from the kitchen garden available for purchase, early summer through fall.
