Converted from a detached barn, this accommodation is a perfect getaway for couples or families wishing to explore the spectacular North Pennine countryside. Set on a Green Energy Farm the Old Barn has its own private garden to enjoy the tranquillity of this designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The property surveys the landscape of Lower Weardale and Upper Teesdale with views to the horizon greater than 20 miles. The historic town of Bishop Auckland and Hamsterley Forest nearby

The space
It is within easy reach of a host of major tourist attractions including ‘Kynren’ – an epic tale of England with a cast of over 1500 performers in Bishop Auckland every summer, the National Railway Museum at Shildon, Croft Motor Racing Circuit, the Tees Barrage International White Water Course at Stockton and the Riverside International Cricket Ground at Chester-le-Street.
The barn nestles on a hillside 200m above sea level in the beautiful countryside of Durham , and offers far reaching views towards the Pennines in the west . The cottage is 20 minutes drive from the city of Durham and the historic Victorian market town of Darlington.
It is situated privately within the 40 acre grounds of the owner’s home where there are roaming sheep, cows and free range chickens.
Perfect for guests who enjoy a walking or cycling holiday, there are numerous paths and cycling routes that lead directly from the property and through rural County Durham. Popular walks follow the old railway tracks out through unspoilt countryside and woodland. Beamish Living Museum is also only 20 minutes away and really worth a day trip to visit one of the many events that run all year round which include traditional markets, an open air ice rink at Christmas and numerous seasonal events. Durham has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status, the Old Barn is also in the perfect spot for guests wanting to take a trip to the famous cathedral and Durham Castle. A thriving city all year round, guests will find a farmers’ market in the cobbled market place every Saturday, rowing boats on the river Wear, popular boutiques and high street shops, as well as a variety of excellent places to eat and drink. A 10 minute train journey from Durham enables guests to reach Newcastle-upon-Tyne for The Sage and the Metro Arena, or Gateshead for the Metro Centre and the Angel of the North. For guests wanting to travel a little further up into Northumberland, Hexham, Corbridge and Hadrian’s Wall can all be reached within an hour’s drive. The beautiful beaches of Tynemouth, Roker , Seaham ,and Seaton Carew are all less than an hour east of the cottage too and a great place to spend a warm afternoon.
All on one level and perfect for couples, families and friends who like to share a holiday, the Old Barn has recently been renovated throughout to achieve an A grade energy rating. Architect designed, the property is light and spacious with exposed timber beams and underfloor heating. The living room has large windows that let in plenty of light and overlook the stunning western view. The kitchen is well-equipped and offers plenty of space to dine as well as good quality appliances.
