Huge & Sunny Oasis Colonia Roma

Loft - Entire home/apt · Guanajuato, Mexico City, Federal District, Mexico

The Space

1) We've noticed the ad doesn't always show the price per night, so:
$120 per night for two persons; $20 per additionnal guest per night

2) Map street view doesn't actually show our street! if you look up, search for the street Guanajuato.

3) Don't make us make two beds if you're only going to use one ;-) Mexico city is gay friendly (and marriage is open to same-sex people since 2009).

Our home is a peaceful place, full of light. It's huge and quiet with trees at every window. You will enjoy walking out of your bedroom to a nice terrace in the mornings and sip your first coffee in the hammock...

Our flat is comfortable and you will sleep well. It is very well located, at walking distance from the action, but protected from the traffic noise. Our building has only three apartments and our neighbours are quiet and respectful. If you need to work at home, you will be able to do so, using our high-speed internet access (wifi). We have no tv, but a piano and plenty of books and dvds you're welcome to borrow. Our kitchen has cutlery and utensils and you can use our antique stove if you want to cook. Items for cooking will be available for you, i.e., spices, oil, vinegar, sugar, tea, coffee, etc. We like to take our time so we don't have a microwave...

There are two bedrooms with king size beds (one is a futon) and one full bathroom (ensuite with the main bedroom). Bedding and one towel per guest will be available. Diana will come once a week to keep the flat clean and tidy. We have no washing-machine but we use a very good laundry service if you need to wash clothing (they collect the laundry and deliver it when ready).

We live in bohemian Colonia Roma, blocks away from Condesa and close to the historical city center. At the beginning of the XXth century, Colonia Roma used to be a very European and aristocratic area. Today, there is a real feeling of village neighborhood, with a mix of art galleries, small traditional shops, nice restaurants and cafes. If you like architecture, you will be amazed at some of the old porfiriato mansions and art nouveau buildings, nicely restored, in our area. On week-ends, you can walk to the near-by flea-market, and enjoy the slow pace of our ¨village¨ in the big city... It is safe to walk around at night.

Public transportation is close (walking distance), and is really the best way to move around the city. Nearby: Metrobus linea 1 (Alvaro Obregon), or linea 3 (Jardin Pushkin). Metro Insurgentes (linea 1). If you want a taxi service, we will recommend the one we use regularly. If you choose to rent a car, you'll be able to park in our building.

Our building is new (10 years old) and has been built to resist earthquakes; it follows the movements of the earthquake, it moves so it doesn't break. Whenever a big truck passes nearby, you might feel a slight rocking (some people don't feel anything), it's normal. Feel safe.

  • We were so very lucky to stay with Agnes and Chimi. A wonderful light floaded place with a warm and welcoming feeling, totally reflecting the nature of our excellent hosts. The place is exactly as displayed and at a perfect location to explore the city. They absolutely deserve six stars****** for communication, care and taking any extra step to make us feel not only welcome, but create an athmosphere of feeling home and friendship. THANK YOU! :)

  • The apartment was amazing. Our holiday in Mexico would not have been such a wonderful experience if we hadn't had such a perfect place to stay. Every minute we spent in the apartment was a delight. I particularly loved the swaying of the trees as you passed over the bridge. We also really appreciated all the extra touches that made our stay so pleasant and easy: the local mobile phone, the plentiful supply of drinking water, the groceries and the beautiful bar of soap in the bathroom.

  • This was a beautifully light and spacious oasis in a lovely, leafy and up and coming area of the city. We fell in love with it immediately. Agnes and Chimi were gracious and extremely helpful hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed the week we spent there. They thoughtfully left us delicious fruit and bread for our first breakfast, helped us carry up the luggage and left us a very useful mobile for contacting local taxis, restaurants, etc. There was an abundance of reading material, city guides and tourist information, all of which we used and appreciated. We truly hope we will have the opportunity of returning to this modern and clean property in the not too distant future. Thank you both so much!

  • We LOVED staying at Agnes and Chimi's place! They went above and beyond in every way. First, the apartment is gorgeous. Next, we had fresh towels, soap, bottled water, teas, coffee, and a local cellphone. They have an amazing spread of guidebooks and places to go and things to do while in Mexico City as well as personalized maps from their place to many local wonderful places. We used almost every suggestion for restaurants and they were all wonderful. We had a wonderful stay and Agnes and Chimi were the best hosts!

  • Agnes was a very pleasant host, always ready to help and answer questions, easy going and relaxed. The apartment is beautiful and located in a great area as a base for exploring Mexico City, which is an amazing city, we loved it. The entire stay was very enjoyable, partly also because of good host. Highly recommended!

  • My girlfriend and I spent a week in Agnes and Chimi's lovely Colonia Roma apartment. We enjoyed the bright, sunny and airy spaces, the large open living/dining/kitchen area, the amazing master suite with its own terrace and the quiet and secure surroundings. The front bedroom (which we didn't use since we were only a party of two) is a quite a bit smaller than the master, but could comfortably accommodate another couple or children.

The building was perfectly located near all the great restaurants, bars, cafes, bakeries and more of Colonias Roma and Condesa; a block from the Metrobus (to points south such as St. Angel and the UNAM) and a 15 minute walk to the subway (to El Centro and other spots around town.) I loved having the parks and boulevards of Condesa just a few blocks away for my morning runs.

Agnes and Chimi were great hosts. Communication was smooth from our initial contact all the way through to our arrival. They provided great directions for getting to their flat, met us upon arrival, were responsive to questions during our stay and even helped arrange a taxi to the airport upon our departure. My girlfriend and I are glad to have met them and hope we get a chance to connect with them (or stay with them!) again in the future.

  • Amazing apartment filled with natural light, 2 terraces, fantastically tasteful interior design, and friendly, accommodating hosts. Agnes and Chimi have gone the extra mile to ensure guests have easy access to local information and suggestions. They thoughtfully provided a local cell phone pre-loaded with important contact information and personalized neighborhood & city guides. As host ourselves, we were very impressed... I was also sad to leave! Thanks Agnes & Chimi for sharing your perfect Mexico City home with us! We highly recommend.

  • Agnes & Chimi are great people, their place is absolutely as amazing as it looks, and there is a even a complete works of Plato to distract you from all the places to go in this amazing neighborhood, and across the city; all carefully chosen for recommendation by Agnes & Chimi on a big map, plus info on transportation, guidebooks, everything! A pleasure to have a little dinner party and be hosts in Mexico city, used everything in their outfitted kitchen... Only wished we could have stayed longer!

  • The most perfect location, apartment and hosts. Agnes and Chimi were there to greet us and had a book full of recommendations for the Colonia Roma and beyond. The neighborhood is ideal. Easy to get around, very walkable and well situated for public transportation. The front porch and back patio are great for relaxing after a long day of touring. I couldn't recommend it more highly.

About
We're a french-mexican couple, in our 30s. Agnes was born in France and has been living in Mexico city for the last 15 years... She's a Philosophy professor at university. Chimi was born in Mexico city from a french mother and a mexican father. He's a furniture designer/restorer. We're both big travellers and if we could live on the road, we would!! In fact, we did, for a year, from Mexico to Patagonia on our van, greatest memories ever... We learned to make our own biodiesel from waste veggie oil and value hospitality from people on our way... We're both independant workers and enjoy our freedom. We love having people at our house and making sure our guests feel at home, free and relaxed...
