You’ll have the house to yourself.
A special opportunity to stay in a secluded and spacious country house deep in the heart of the Ariege. Located in the Pyrenean Natonal Park, this wonderful spacious 18th century farmhouse sleeps 8-9 guests comfortably, nestled into the side of a mountain.

The space

Located in Nescus, 1 hour south of Toulouse international airport. Le Freyche is a wonderful large farmhouse tucked into the foothills of the Midi-Pyrenees. Surrounded by its own private lawned garden, with direct access to the forest, the house is suited to everyone from romantic couples looking for space and privacy, to large groups with children.
Designed in classic Pyrenean mountain style; simple, spacious rooms wooden and tiled floors, thick stone walls and ancient solid wooden beams and doors. The whole space is dotted with local vintage antiques.

The main house consists of three double bedrooms spread over two floors (1 bedroom downstairs, 2 bedrooms upstairs), plus a fun bedroom that we call the climbing den (with a bunk bed and double pull out sofa bed) coming off the outdoor, covered patio area. Inside, there is also an open-plan eating and sitting area with a large wood-burner, plus a fully-equipped kitchen and dining table. Step down into an enveloping sitting room with breath-taking floor to ceiling views of the surrounding trees and French doors leading out to a small balcony over-looking the rushing local river.

As you step out of the kitchen onto the small entrance balcony you overlook the ancient wooden verandah. This is a lovely space to read, eat or sit watching the wildlife. The garden has an in ground salt-purified large (10M x 5M) pool with sun-loungers. The pool is graduated so children can spend hours safely slashing around in the shallows, there is also a sandpit, trampoline and tyre swing in the large lawned garden above the pool to keep them entertained. Pool available July and August only.

The Price includes a meet-and-greet, a welcoming bottle of wine and local treats for week-long stays or longer.

We want you to know exactly what to expect when you arrive at our house, which was designed for easy-going outdoor summer living. Everyone has different expectations, so please note the following:
- Only the downstairs bedroom has en-suite bathroom facilities.
- (Summer only) The climbing den has its own private WC next door which can also serve the house, useful for garden dwellers. However this toilet is somewhat basic with no hand washing facilities.
- The principal bathroom has a bath with shower over and sink. Next door there is a separate WC.
- None of the bedrooms are interconnecting.
-There is no air-conditioning. All the bedrooms have shuttered windows. The thick walls keep the house a nice regular temperature throughput even the hottest months.
- The Wi-Fi service at the house is usually good, but there can be intermittent reception for cell phones, varying depending on provider and mountain weather!
- The tap water is safe to drink and cook with, but has a slightly metallic flavour. It is tested annually and renowned to be high in nutrients, hence the taste!
- A car is necessary as we do not have any public transport in the village.
- We have a no-shoe rule pithing the house and would ask that you respect this at all times.
- The house is on a quiet country lane, not in a village, and there are no shops or cafés in the immediate vicinity. The closest are under 10 minutes drive away in La Bastide de Serou.
- Le Freyche is run as a gite, so essentials like toilet paper, washing-up liquid, etc will not be supplied but for €20 we can supply these items in advance of your arrival. Unlike many gites bed linens and towels are supplied for free.
- There is a strict no-pet rule.
- No smoking within the house
- Electricity will be added at the end of the stay. We will read the meter before and after your visit and charge you just for the electricity used. We will leave you wood for the first night. More is available onsite (to be paid for). There are two wood burning fires in the house, plus radiators.

Le Freyche is ideally situated to give you a peaceful holiday away from crowds whilst still having fun and exciting attractions a short drive away. Just five minutes down the road there is a large Equine Centre with a lovely Restaurant that serves both lunches and dinners overlooking the paddocks. There are opportunities to hire bicycles in the local village and there is an old train line running about 45km between the two local cities, Foix & Saint Girons, which ideal for an easy afternoon cycle ride or walk. The geology and pre-historic history of the local region is fascinating and has created some awe-inspiring caves locally both for organised tours or simply for enjoying at your own pace. Le Freyche is 15minutes drive from a 18-hole 71-PAR 5934 metre golf course with spectacular views and a fantastic restaurant. Ax-les-thermes is a ski resort that re-opens its gondola service in summer and the views from these magnificent mountains is almost as rewarding as the ride up. Information about these activities and many more will be made available to you at the house and by the housekeeper.

Cycling, horse-riding, hiking, canyoning, golf, kayaking, bird-watching…in its own way, the Ariege really does have something for everyone and we hope you have a wonderful holiday in this special region.

Local food markets: Bastide de Serou -Thursday, Foix --Friday, St Girons -Saturday, Mirepoix -Monday. Food shop open Sundays in the village. Tourist office in the Bastide. More on attractions in the area here: https://tinyurl.com/y5643j4s (Trip Advisor).
